Defect: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES BUILT BY MITSUBISHI MOTOR CORPORATION FOR DAIMLERCHRYSLER, A CONDITION EXISTS THAT ALLOWS OIL TO LEAK FROM THE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE TRANSFER CASE.
Consequence: LOW OIL LEVELS IN THE TRANSFER CASE COULD CAUSE BEARING DAMAGE AND RESULT IN DRIVE TRAIN LOCKUP, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TRANSFER CASE FOR INDICATIONS OF OIL LEAKAGE. VEHICLES THAT HAVE NO OIL LEAKAGE WILL HAVE THE TRANSFER CASE OIL CHANGED. VEHICLES THAT HAVE OIL LEAKAGE WILL HAVE THE TRANSFER CASE RESEALED OR REPLACED IF NECESSARY. OWNER...

WHEN THE SEAT BELT IS PULLED ON IT DOES NOT RETRACT, LEAVING ENOUGH SLACK IN THE BELT THAT IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR, IT WOULD NOT SERVE ITS PURPOSE AS A SAFETY RESTRAINT. *JB
FAILURE IN RETRACTING OF DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT. HAVE TO RETRACT SEAT BELT MANUALLY. *JB
DT: THE CALLER RECEIVED MANUFACTURER'S RECALL B17 CONCERNING TRANSFER CASE. AFTERIT HAD BEEN FIXEDHEARD A GRINDING NOISE. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THE REAR TIRES LOCKED AND IT JERKED THE VEHICLE. NOW IT MAKES A NOISE ALL THE TIME. DEALER SAID THE CALLER WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AGAIN. MANUFACTURER SAID TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO SEE IF IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE OR SOMETHING ELSE AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAD AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED OF 50 MPH OR MORE. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BY THE DEALER, AND THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH VEHICLE MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE. DRIVER TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, BUT WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE STOP. *AK
