VIN [XXX] RIDING DOWN I-75 IN GEORGIA AND MY CAR STALED AND THE COMPLETE ENGINE SHOUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE ALTERNATOR WERE FIRE HOT. ROADSIDE TRIED TO JUMP START MY CAR BUT THERE WERE NO POWER. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN THOUROUGHFARE, THE ENGINE STALLED.( THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON.) THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND THEN ALL ELEC POWER WENT OUT. LEAVING THE CAR WITHOUT LIGHTS/FLASHERS. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE ALTERNATOR FAILED, SHORTING OUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND KILLING/DESTROYING THE BATTERY. THE ALTERNATOR SHOULDN'T DO THIS. I FOUND THAT DODGE HAD A RECALL ( P-60) ON THEIR V-6 MODELS FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. MY CAR IS A V-8. I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR AT NIGHT AS THE CAR HAD NO WAY IOF INDICATING DISTRESS TO OTHER DRIVERS AND THE HEADLIGHTS DIDN'T WORK. THERE IS A CLEAR DEFECT IN THE ALTERNATORS OF THESE CARS, ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED.
"TAKATA RECALL" VEHICLE ALTERNATOR BURNED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME WHEN THE BATTERY LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON BOTH IN RED NOT THE NORMAL ORANGE, ALSO THE TRACTION LIGHT STARTED COMING OFF AND ON AT TIMES FOR THE PAST MONTH WHEN DRIVING AS NORMAL TO PLACES AROUND MY AREA. WHEN SHE MADE IT HOME SHE NOTICED THAT ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS CAME ON THEN WENT OFF AND SHE SMELLED SMOKE AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RAISED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT BURNT ELECTRICAL SMELL WITH SMOKE COMING FROM THE SIDE OF THE MOTOR WHERE THE ALTERNATOR IS, SO WHEN I GOT HOME I NOTICED THE ALTERNATOR HAD BLACK BURN SCARS AROUND THE COIL AREAS AND WITH A FLASHLIGHT NOTICED SOME OF THE COILS INSIDE WERE MELTED DOWN FROM THE BURNING
GET IN CAR TO GO TO WAL-MART ONE SATURDAY MORNING THE LOW BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND GET A MESSAGE THAT CAR WAS GOING TO BATTERY SAVING MODE. DROVE TO STORE GOT MY ITEMS GOT BACK INTO CAR AND ALL ELECTRONICS JUST STARTED SHUTTING OFF THEN CAR STARTED TO IDLE AND CUT OUT MADE A U SHAPE IN PARKING LOT AS WAS AFRAID TO GET ON THE ROAD FOR FEAR OF IT QUITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. TURN CAR OFF WOULDN'T START BACKUP YOU COULD SMELL SOMETHING HOT UNDER THE HOOD. THE ALTERNATOR WAS SO HOT BURNT HAND. HAD TO CALL TOW TRUCK TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO FIX. I WAS LUCKY THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT ON A ROAD COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $1, 187.75 PLUS IT TOOK 2 WEEKS FOR REPAIR. THIS COULD HAVE...
WHEN I WAS DRIVING. BATTERY SAVER MODE CAME ON AND THE RADIO TURNED OFF. I STARTED GETTING SERVICE LIGHTS AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ABLE TO GET IT HOME AS I WAS ONLY A BLOCK AWAY WHEN THIS STARTED. I TURNED OFF AND ON THE CAR. THE CAR STUDDERED TO START AND THE A TON OF ERROR LIGHTS CAME ON LIKE ABS, BREAK, ENGINE, SERVICE LIGHTS. THE CAR STUDDERED AND THE STEARING WHEEL AND BREAK WAS LOCKED. TUNED OUT IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR THAT DIED AND THANK GOD I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND NOT GOING FAST ELSE I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A REALLY BAD ACCIDENT AS EVERYTHING AROUND MY HOUSE IS A HIGHWAY. THE 3.5L ENGINE WAS RECALLED BUT AFTER LOOKING AT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 5.7L HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS ALSO NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.
RECEIVED A INDICATOR MESSAGES STATING "BATTERY SAVE MODE" WHILE DRIVING. ONCE WE MADE IT TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STRUGGLE A BIT. I DROVE IT HOME. THANK GOD I DID BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP, IT LOST POWER. IT APPEARS FROM RESEARCHING THE SYMPTOMS, THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO EFFICIENTLY POWER THE VEHICLE. I'M GLAD I WAS NOT ON THE ROAD DRIVING WHEN IT SHUT OFF.
ON FREEWAY WHEN LIGHTS ON DASH ALL STARTED FLASHING. AS PULLING OVER, I LOST POWER STEERING IN MY CAR AND ALL ELECTRONICS. AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN PARK MY CAR SHUT OFF. LOOK UP THE P60 RECALL ON 160AMP ALTENATOR ON CHARGERS. I HAVE THE 180AMP THAT DID THE EXACT SAME THING BUT IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED AS IT CAN BE A MAJOR HAZARD TO ME OR OTHERS. ALL WITH NOT ONE INDICATION MY ALTENATOR WAS GOING OUT.
P60 / NHTSA 14V-634 IS A RECALL THAT IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE TO VEHICLE DUE TO MY ALTERNATOR HAVING 180 AMPS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE 180 AMP ALTERNATORS AS WELL AS IT FALLS UNDER THE SAME RECALL REASONS OF THE P60 / NHTSA 14V-634. I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED LIGHTING UP. I FELT A LITTLE UNEASY ABOUT WHY ALL THESE LIGHTS STARTED LIGHTING UP, SO I EXITED. AS I EXITED, THE WHEEL BEGAN TO LOCK UP, AND BEFORE I KNEW IT, THE CAR HAD COMPLETELY DIED. I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. TAKATA RECALL. MY PASSENGER AIRBAG RATTLES LIKE THERE ARE PARTS LOOSE INSIDE OF IT. CHRYSLER JUST KEEP SAYING THAT THE PARTS AREN'T AVAILABLE AND THAT I MUST UNDERSTAND THAT IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO MANUFACTURE PARTS AND DISTRIBUTE THEM EVERYWHERE. WITH ALL OF THE RATTLING INSIDE THIS AIRBAG DEVICE I'M FAIRLY SURE IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT MY PASSENGER WON'T SURVIVE. 3 SEPARATE VEHICLE SHUTDOWNS WHILE ACCELERATING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE AND TO OVERRIDE CRUISE CONTROL. ESC AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH "ACC/FCW UNAVAILABLE VEHICLE SYSTEM ERROR" IN THE EVIC AT 30MPH. SECONDS LATER ALL WARNING LIGHTS SHUT OFF, THE TURNED BACK ON A FEW SECONDS LATER AND REPEATED CONSTANTLY. POWER STEERING WAS 100% LOST WHILE TURNING, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GO INTO A DITCH. AT ABOUT 25MPH, AGAIN AT 35MPH, AND AGAIN AT 40MPH, MY CAR HAD BRIEFLY APPLIED THE EBRAKE BY ITSELF, EVEN THOUGH THE EBRAKE WAS FULLY DISENGAGED, AND A CLICKING SOUND COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE SHIFTER. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED BY THE CONTACT, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. ALSO, THE LATCHES FAILED TO FUNCTION ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOORS. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH LATCHES. IN ADDITION, THE SERVICE STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL, SERVICE ENGINE, AIR BAG, AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 16V352000 (AIR BAGS), 16V043000 (STRUCTURE), 15V467000 (AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS), 14V643000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 14V101000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING), 13V118000 (AIR BAGS), AND 12V497000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
(RE: 2011 DODGE CHARGER, 3.6L. ENGINE, 180AMP ALTERNATOR.) DODGE HAD A RECALL ON THE 3.6 L, 160 AMP. ALTERNATOR. MY CAR HAD THE EVERY SAME PROBLEM (11/20/2016) WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, CALLED DODGE AND WAS TOLD OUR CAR WAS NOT IN THE RECALL BUT IF THEY RECALLED LATER THEY WOULD REIMBURSE. WE BELIEVE THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED, THE CAR SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY AND WE WERE VERY LUCKY IT HAPPENED AT A LOW SPEED, COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF GOING HIGH SPEED BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING , AND STEERING, BRAKES, EVERYTHING IS GONE. THE TOW DRIVER HAD TO REMOVE THE CONSOLE TO GET IT IN N TO MOVE. THE BILL FOR THE REPAIR IS OVER A $1000.00, DODGE SHOULD PAY ALL OR AT LEAST SOME OF THESE BILLS FOR T HEIR CUSTOMERS
ALTERNATOR FAILED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WITH A CHILD AS PASSENGER, APPROXIMATELY 4 MINUTES AND 1 MILE FROM HOME, RESULTING IN A FIRE IMMEDIATELY AFTER PULLING OVER. FIRE OCCURRED AFTER VEHICLE STOPPED. DODGE REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY ISSUES WITH ALTERNATOR DESPITE RECALL ON SAME EQUIPMENT FOR V6 ENGINES.

IN AUGUST MY CAR OUT OF NOWHERE WARNED AND ACTIVATED ITSELF FOR BATTERY SAVER MODE AND NOT LONG AFTER THAT SAME DAY THE CAR LOST ALL POWER CAUSING ME TO LOOSE TOTAL CONTROL OF BRAKES AND STEERING AS WELL AS UNABLE TO UNLOCK MY CAR TO GET OUT. MY DODGE CHARGER LAST NIGHT WOULD NOT START. I GOT IT JUMPED AND IT STARTED, I LEFT THE CABLES HOOKED UP FOR A WHILE THEN UNHOOKED THEM. THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2011 DODGE CHARGERS CONCERNING A WIRING HARNESS THAT EFFECTS THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. FOR SOME REASON, ONLY CERTAIN MODELS WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MY MODEL (R/T) IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT I'M HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT IS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL NUMBER IS PO8
CAR DIED AT INTERSECTION WITH ALMOST NO WARNING. LOST ALL POWER WITH IN 1 MIN OF STALL. ALTERNATOR IS FRIED. CAME TO A STOP AND WITHIN 30 SECONDS A BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID "BATTERY SAVER MODE". BELLS STARTED TO DING AND THE WIPERS TURNED ON. TRIED TO PULL OVER AND CAR STALLED IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. TURNED HAZARDS ON AND 1 MINUTE LATER THERE WAS NO POWER AT ALL. WHEN WE TRIED TO JUMP THE CAR IN ORDER TO CLOSE THE WINDOWS AND SUNROOF, THE CONNECTORS STARTED TO SMOKE WHERE THE JUMPERS WERE CONNECTED. FOR A HIGH PERFORMANCE CAR THERE IS NO ALTERNATOR WARNING OR GAUGE TO DETERMINE IF IT IS STARTING TO FAIL. THAT ONLY SHOWS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THEY DO NOT WANT CUSTOMERS TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING. CAR WAS RUNNING PERFECTLY FINE UNTIL THAT POINT.
YESTERDAY CAR WAS FINE, NO ISSUES. THIS MORNING, I STARTED MY CAR AND THE TOUCHSCREEN WOULD NOT TURN ON, THE RADIO WILL NOT WORK, BUT THE AC WAS SET TO FULL BLAST, WHICH I DID NOT DO. I COULD NOT TURN THE AC DOWN OR OFF. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, BUT THE ISSUE WAS STILL THERE. I ALSO TRIED DRIVING IT A LITTLE, PARKING IT BACK IN MY DRIVEWAY, AND TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON. 5 HOURS LATER I TRIED IT ALL AGAIN, NO RADIO, THE AC IS STILL BLOWING FULL BLAST AND THE TOUCHSCREEN IS STILL BLACK AND NOT OPERABLE, AND NOW THE EVIC IS SUDDENLY SPEAKING IN GERMAN AND THE EVIC STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS WILL NOT WORK. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYWHERE SINCE I AM NOT SURE WHAT ELSE IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), WHICH ADDRESSES THE 160 AMP. THE CONTACT HAD AN 180 AMP AND EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
WHEN LEAVING MY HOUSE ONE DAY MY RADIO CUT OFF WITHIN 1 MINUTE OF THE CAR BEING STARTED. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND ALL SOUND WENT OUT AGAIN WITHIN 1 MINUTE. I RODE MY WHOLE TRIP WITH NO SOUND. WITHIN A WEEK MY CAR WOULD NOT EVEN START AND HAD NO ELECTRICAL POWER. I ATTEMPTED TO DO RESEARCH ON THE BATTERY SAVER MODE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS ISSUE WITH MY CHARGER IS ACTUALLY A COMMON ISSUE AND WAS A RECALL FOR THE V6 CHARGERS BUT NOT THE V8S. THE ISSUE IS THE ALTERNATOR AND I AM TRULY UPSET THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT CREATED A RECALL...
I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE STREET AND MY CAR SUDDENLY DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING 30 MPH. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM MY HOOD MOST LIKELY FROM A SMALL FIRE. THE ALTERNATOR DIED ON ME AND MY CAR DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I ALMOST GOT IN AN ACCIDENT BUT I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR WITH NO POWER LUCKILY. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. I ENTERED MY VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER AT ALL TO START IT TO MOVE IT OR GET IT OUT OF GEAR.
I HAVE A 2011 DODGE CHARGER RT. THE ALTERNATOR FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AS I WAS DRIVING. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. THERE WAS NO POWER IN THE CAR. THERE WAS A SMALL ELECTRICAL FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE COVERED UNDER RECALL P60/NHTSA 14V-634 FOR 2011 THROUGH 2014 MODEL YEAR DODGE DURANGO, CHRYSLER 300, DODGE CHALLENGER, DODGE CHARGER AND 2012 THROUGH 2014 MODEL YEAR JEEPGRAND CHEROKEE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR. THE SAME BEHAVIOR EXISTS IN MY VEHICLE, WHICH HAS A 5.7-LITER ENGINE. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN OVERSIGHT BY THE MANUFACTURER. IF YOU PERFORM A GOOGLE SEARCH YOU WILL FIND THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH THE 'HEMI' MODEL CHARGER FOR THAT YEAR RANGE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS.

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE DOING 65 MPH (AND ONCE WHILE DOING 25 MPH) MY LIGHTS, STEREO AND SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT AND CAR SPEED DECREASED. TRUNK LATCH STOPPED WORKING AND TRUNK LIGHT AND TRUNK RELEASE BUTTON AND NO TRUNK AJAR ALARM LIGHTING UP ON THE DASHBOARD. STATIONARY. THE DEALER STATED THE LATCH WAS FRIED AND HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE UNIT AND BUTTON.

MY 2011 DODGE CHARGER HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR VARIOUS RECALLS. THE FIRST RECALL WAS FOR A DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESS THAT CAUSED FUSED TO TRIP. THE REPAIR CORRECTED THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME BUT THE FUSES CONTINUE TO TRIP. THE LATEST RECALL IS FOR AN ALTERNATOR PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING PROPERLY UNTIL THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE LOST STEERING AND THEN ALL POWER AFTER THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. WHO IS REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR. THEY CLAIM THE BATTERY IS "SHORTED" AND MUST BE REPLACED. THEY CLAIM THAT BATTERY IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

I HAD IT REPLACED; IT HAS SINCE BEEN RECALLED, BUT DODGE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT IN EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF SOMETHING ELECTRICAL BURNING ALONG WITH A LOSS IN ELECTRICAL POWER. IN 2016, AT AROUND 75K MILES, FUEL STARTED LEAKING FROM JUST IN FRONT OF THE REAR PASSENGER-SIDE TIRE. THE GASKET BETWEEN THE TANK AND PUMP WAS REPLACED. AFTER THE NEXT FILL UP, THE LEAK BECAME WORSE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ANOTHER SHOP. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS DRIVING IT ONTO THE TRUCK, GAS WAS SPRAYING DOWNWARD WITH A GOOD AMOUNT OF PRESSURE. THE SECOND SHOP ALSO SUSPECTED THE GASKET DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE FUEL SYSTEM. THEY ALSO REPLACED IT, BUT THE LEAK PERSISTED. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY HAD DEVELOPED A CRACK. I DON'T APPRECIATE...
