2001 SILVERADO HD 8.1L ENGINE 51,009 MILES. EXPERIENCING ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA ID # 07V521000. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AND THE SCANNER SHOWS A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILURE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX IT DUE TO MY VIN NUMBER BEING OUTSIDE THE RECALLED GROUPS. EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN THE DATE RANGE OF THE EFFECTED UNITS. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MY TRUCK HAS THE SAME EXACT PART NUMBER OF THE ITEM THAT IS FAILING. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET 2500HD 8.1L WITH 120K MILES. TRUCK RUNS GREAT BUT MY ENGINE WILL JUST SHUT OFF. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF THEN KICK ON AGAIN ALL BY ITSELF. WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT IT WILL SHUT OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON UNLESS I TURN THE KEY TO START IT AGAIN. WHEN I CALLED A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, CONNELL CHEVROLET IN COPPERAS COVE, TEXAS THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL "BECAUSE I COULDN'T HONESTLY TELL THEM THAT THE 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT' HAD CAME ON; AND THAT MY TRUCK WASN'T RUNNING POORLY (OR A WORD TO THAT AFFECT). MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD2500 P/U STARTED HAVING INTERMITTENT STALLING PROBLEMS IN JULY 2007. THE ENGINE WOULD DIE AND IT WOULD TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO RESTART. FINALLY IN SEPT 2007 IT DIED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I WAS TRAVELING AT OVER 65 MPH. THE POWERSTEERING STOPPED AND THE POWER BRAKE ASSIST STOPPED. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS SINCE THE REPAIR. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET ABOUT THEIR RECALL # 06083 NHTSA ID#07V521000 AND THEY ADVISED THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AUTOMATICALLY. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. DURING TIMES OF STALLING THE ONLY WAY TO MAINTAIN SOME CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN THE KEY TO ATTEMPT A RESTART. AT THESE TIMES THE ENGINE TURNING OVER PROVIDES ENOUGH COMPRESSION TO ALLOW THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES TO BE AFFECTIVE AS LONG AS THE...

TURCK ENGINE HAS A KNOCK THAT I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER AND GM THAT IT WAS SIMPLY A COLD START KNOCK. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY A PERSONAL FRIEND AT THE GM TECH CENTER THAT IT IS REALLY A PISTON SLAP, AND IS A RESULT OF THE PISTONS BEING TOO SMALL FOR THE BORE WHICH COULD LEAD TO ENGINE SEIZURE/FAILURE, AND THAT GM IS AWARE OF IT!
