THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, THIS FAILURE MODE HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES, TWICE WHILE PULLING A 12,000 LBS. CAMPER AND THREE TIMES DURING NORMAL DRIVING. WHEN HAULING THE CAMPER THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN THE 'TOW / HAUL' MODE. THE FAILURE, THE 8.1 L ENGINE SUDDENLY LOOSES ENGINE POWER AND STALLS AND WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO THE ENGINE HAS RESTARTED AND NORMAL TRAVEL RESUMED. HOW OFTEN IT OCCURS, SINCE JULY 24TH 2009 THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE ONLY COMMON FACTOR THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ISOLATE IS THAT THE FAILURES HAVE ALL OCCURRED WITHIN THE FIRST TWENTY MINUTES OF DRIVING. THERE WERE NO SES INDICATORS BEING SHOWN. THE SECOND ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MY WAY HOME....
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL #06083--2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 8.1L V8 ENGINE. I HAVE THE EXACT ENGINE AND TRUCK, BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR THAT CAUSES THE TRUCK TO STALL OCCASIONALLY--EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WHILE TOWING A LARGE TRAILER. CHEVROLET REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
MY TRUCK BURNS OIL ENTIRELY TOO FAST. I JUST CHANGED MY OIL LESS THAN A WEEK AGO AND MY OIL LEVEL LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS PROBABLY 2 QUARTS LOW AND I ONLY PUT ABOUT 150 MILES ON IT. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH THE 8.1L ENGINE WITH AN INTERMITTENT STALLING PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED BY OTHERS. THE ENGINE WILL STALL AT VARIOUS TIMES, WHILE DRIVING, SITTING AT STOP LIGHTS, ETC. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I NOTED THE RECALL ISSUED BY GM, BUT MY VEHICLES VIN WAS 5000 PAST THE SCOPE OF THE RECALL. THE TRUCK WAS BUILT IN NOVEMBER 2000 AND DELIVERED IN MID-DECEMBER 2000. I PAID TO HAVE THE CRANKCASE SENSOR REPAIRED AND IT APPEARS TO HAVE RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE PICKUP HAS JUST OVER 50,000 MILES. *TR
SAME PROBLEM AS EA06016. MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH THE 8.1L GAS ENGINE EXPERIENCED THE INTERMITTENT STALLING DESCRIBED IN EA06016. IT WAS BUILT JUST AFTER THE RECALL DATE SO GM WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN OFFER TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR. THE MAIN SAFETY PROBLEM IS THE SOFTWARE BUG THAT DOESN'T RECORD THE BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE FIRST 20 OR SO INCIDENTS WERE ANNOYING. WHEN THE TRUCK STARTED SHUTTING DOWN WHILE GOING DOWN A 10% GRADE ON A TWISTING MOUNTAIN ROAD IT GOT SCARY. LUCKILY I WASN'T PULLING THE 15000 POUND TRAILER THAT I OFTEN PULL. THE PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS AT ONE PARTICULAR ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND IT DOESN'T SET A DTC. IT TOOK ME THREE MONTHS OF SEARCHING THE WEB TO FIND THE PROBLEM. GM WAS OF NO HELP DIAGNOSING OR FIXING THE PROBLEM EVEN WITH THE RECALL ON THE IDENTICAL TRUCKS THAT WERE BUILT JUST...

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP, DRIVING 5 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED. THIS CAUSED AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. UPON INSPECTION THE SPEED SENSOR HUB WAS CORRODED DUE TO ROAD SALT AND WAS REPLACED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES, ANTI-LOCK. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE ROTORS AND BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ROTORS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE. THE ROTORS COULD NOT BE TURNED BECAUSE THEY WERE HEAVILY RUSTED. THE LEFT POWER WINDOW FAILED, THE MANUFACTURER USED A STEEL CABLE FOR THE ASSEMBLY, WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO SEEP IN WHICH CAUSED CORROSION. THE LEFT REAR OUTSIDE AXLE WAS LEAKING. THE A/C IDLER PULLEY AND TENSIONER WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THE RIGHT POWER WINDOW FAILED. THE TIRES...
