The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the tailgate would occasionally raise and lower independently even though the tailgate switch was not depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
I purchased this car on 7/15/24 and had no problems until 8/8/24 after I took my car through an automatic touchless car wash. Upon exiting the car wash, I noticed that the tailgate was now down even though I never unlocked it. I parked the car and closed the tailgate and began driving home. Halfway home, the tailgate opened again on its on. The bed was empty so I continued driving home and then closed it again. Later that night, I went out to take the garbage cans out to the street and again noticed the tailgate was down. I again closed it. The next morning, I went to go to work and the tailgate was again down. This would be a serious safety issue if I had items in the bed of my truck and the tailgate opened while driving.
