The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to approximately 20 MPH, and the instrument panel went black. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering functionality, and then lost motive power and stalled. The contact was assisted by persons nearby to push the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

THERE WAS A BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CHARITY TOWING AND RECOVERY (4106 S 7TH ST, PHOENIX, AZ 85040) THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR CAUSED OF FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY IGNITION SWITCH HAS A RECALL THAT SOMETIMES TAKES FOREVER TO GET KEY TO TURN OVER, THE STEERING SHAFT AND KNUCKLES ALSO HAVE A RECALL THAT MAKE ME DRIFT AND SLIDE ON DRY ROADS, ENGINE AND COOLING SYSTEM AS WELL HAS RECALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. WHEN TRYING TO START MY VEHICLE, THE SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START FOR 10 MINUTES. THIS OCCURS ON A WEEKLY BASIS AND OCCURS IN MANY LOCATIONS. SOME OF THE LOCATIONS INCLUDE VERY RURAL AREAS WITH NO PHONE SIGNAL, DURING HIGH TEMPERATURE DAYS WHEN A CHILD IS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE. TEN MINUTES IS A LONG TIME TO SIT WITH NO COOLING AVAILABLE AND NO ABILITY TO CONTACT ANYONE. THIS OCCURS WITH NO WARNING AND NO CERTAIN WEATHER. GMC IS AWARE OF THE PASSCODE/PASSKEY FAILURES BUT HAS REFUSED TO RECALL SUCH MALFUNCTIONS, EVEN THOUGH IT AFFECTS THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES.

AND THE ABS, TRAC, CHECK AND BRAKE LIGHTS WON'T GO OFF. THE SECURITY LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON AND DISABLES THE CAR NOT ALLOWING IT TO START. CAUSING ME THE BE STRANDED UNANNOUNCED AND AT ANY RANDOM TIME. STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENS AND LOOSENS AT RANDOM TIMES. AFTER RESEARCHING PAST RECALLS BEFORE MY OWNERSHIP I AM UNSURE IF MY CAR HAS HAD THE RECALL ISSUES ADDRESSED. MY CAR HAS SOME TYPE OF MANUFACTURER COMPUTER GLITCH BUT GMC DOESN'T WANT TO OWN UP TO IT. AND I'VE KEPT ALL RECEIPTS ON REPAIRS I'VE COVERED. THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN ON GOING SINCE THE ESTIMATED DATE ENTERED BELOW.

WHEN I RETURN THE CAR WAS SMOKING , I DASH WATER ON TOP OF THE HOOD BUT THE SMOKE TURN INTO FLAMES THAT'S WHEN I CALLED 911. HELP CAME AND WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT.

INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. WHY ARE THE DEFECTED? THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT FAULTY ONES AND STILL YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED TO BETTER GASKETS. FIRST THE HEAT GOES AND THEN THE CAR OVERHEATS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. CHANGED THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT. NOW THE GASKET. FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR THIS CAR IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO COST ME ANOTHER 800 TO 1200 MORE FOR A PART YOU CAN FIX WITH CHANGING YOUR PRODUCT YOU USE. AFTER PARKING MY CAR, I JUST HAPPENED TO NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE FRONT OF CAR AND I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A DRY CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER AVAILABLE TO PUT OUT THE FLAMES. IT APPEARS THAT THERE WAS A VALVE COVER OIL LEAK THAT HAD DRIPPED ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD THAT CAUSED THE OIL TO IGNITE INTO FLAMES. RESULTING DAMAGE THAT I'M VISUALLY ABLE TO SEE WAS TO ALL SPARK PLUG WIRES, ENGINE COILS, PLASTIC ENGINE COVER, OIL DIPSTICK, RIGHT ENGINE STRUT, WIRING HARNESS PIGTAIL GOING TO COIL PACK ASSEMBLY AND UNDER HOOD INSULATION. I WILL NOT KNOW FULL EXTENT OF DAMAGE UNTIL I ATTEMPT TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS MYSELF. I HAVE PHOTOS IF SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO VIEW THEM.
