TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 90 MPH, WHICH THEN INCREASED TO 110 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE RPM GAUGE FAILED TO PROVIDE ACCURATE READING LEVELS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
SPEEDOMETER WORKS SOMETIMES. OTHER TIMES IT GETS STUCK ON MPH. I CAN BE SITTING STILL AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ 52 MILES PER HOUR. OTHER TIMES IT WILL KEEP GOING UP UNTIL THE NEEDLE IS MORE THAN BURIED. *TR
THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGE STOPPED WORKING, THERE IS NO TELLING WHAT THE SPEEDOMETER OR TACHOMETER IS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER IS OUT OF CONTROL. IT WILL TELL ME I'M EITHER GOING WAY FASTER THAN I AM OR IT WILL TELL ME I'M GOING WAY SLOWER THAN I AM. IT WILL RESET ITSELF IF THE CAR IS OFF FOR TWENTY MINUTES OR SO BUT IT WILL JUST HAPPEN AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS OR HOURS. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN A CAR WHERE I DON'T KNOW WHAT SPEED I'M GOING. SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT DISPLAY ACCURATE MILES PER HOUR. WHILE DRIVING, THE ODOMETER WENT TO ABOUT 60 MPH, WHEN I WAS GOING ABOUT 40 MPH AND I TRIED TO DECREASE THE SPEED BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT REMAINED AT 60 MPH. I CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND STOPPED, THEN I NOTICED THAT THE SPEED WAS AT 10 MPH WHILE SETTING STILL. I ASKED ANOTHER PERSON TO DRIVE THE CAR TO SEE IF THE SAME TYPE OF THING WAS HAPPENING WITH THE SPEED ODOMETER, AND IT WAS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC SAID HE RESET THE ODOMETER AND SAID IF THAT DID NOT WORK, A PART WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THAT WORKED ABOUT TWO WEEKS, AND THE SAME THING STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE TO BEGIN OUR VACATION, THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN SHOWING INCREASED SPEED WHILE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET. WE WERE GOING 65, BUT THE SPEEDOMETER EVENTUALLY REGISTERED 120 MPH. 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA - SPEEDOMETER GONE HAYWIRE 1. FIRST, THE TURN SIGNAL BLINKER FAILED. BLINKER DID NOT WORK, BUT TURN SIGNAL STAYED LIT AND INDICATED I AS TURNING. 2. NEXT, THE HEAT TURNED TO AIR CONDITIONER MODE. I HAD TO SWITCH OFF THE AC BACK TO HEAT. 3. LAST, ON A 45 MPH ROAD I WAS TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND SUDDENLY MY SPEEDOMETER SHOT UP TO 75, DESPITE MY SPEED BEING MAINTAINED AT 45 (PER THE GPS UNIT). I HAD TO GET ONTO THE FREEWAY WHERE IT IS 60 MPH. USED MY GPS IN ORDER TO GO THE CORRECT SPEED LIMIT. AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN PARKED, THE SPEEDOMETER NOW REGISTERS 75 MPH. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY SPEEDOMETER AND WATER GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. IT SAID I WAS GOING 120 MPH BUT I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 30 MPH.
