IN EARLY NOVEMBER OF 2020 MY CHEVROLET EQUINOX ENGINE FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND BURNING OIL. MY LOW OIL LIGHT NEVER WENT ON AND WE DID REGULAR OIL CHANGES WHICH STILL DIDNT MATTER. WE WERE PUTTING OIL IN IT EVERY FEW DAYS UNTIL FINALLY IT WOULDNT START ANYMORE. I HAD IT THEN TOWED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED AS IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSE TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION RESULTING IN A BILL OF OVER $2,200. THEY NEVER FIXED THE LOW OIL LIGHT, AND WE HAVE FOUND THAT NOW EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN FIXED IT IS STILL USING OIL EXCESSIVELY SO I AM CONSTANTLY CHECKING IT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET TO DISPUTE THE MATTER BUT THEY REFUSE TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THAT I BELIEVE IT...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON INSPECTION AN OIL LEAK WAS DISCOVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JEFF WYLER CHEVROLET LOCATED AT 2237 W. 1ST ST, SPRINGFIELD, OH 45504, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE PCV AND REAR MAIN SEAL WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A TERRIBLE METAL SOUND. I DIDN'T THINK IT COULD BE MY VEHICLE, AS IT IS FAIRLY NEW. I STOPPED AT A STORE AND IT WOULDN'T RESTART. HAD TO TOW IT TO A SHOP. TIMING CHAIN BROKE. WHEN BREAKING IT BENT PARKS OF THE ENGINE.
EQUINOX SMELLS LIKE BURNING OIL AND NOW IT'S BEGUN TO STALL AT RANDOM TIMES USUALLY WHILE BACKING UP OR FOWARD AT LOW SPEEDS OR STOPPED. HAD THIS VEHICLE 6 MONTHS AND HAVEN'T EVEN PUT 4,000 MILES ON IT. ODOMETER SHOWS 36,645 MILES.
WIPER LINKAGE HAS FAILED AND PCV VALVE FROZE AND CAUSED REAR MAIN SEAL FAILURE
WE BOUGHT THIS 2016 EQUINOX ABOUT A MONTH AGO. IT HAS USED 2.5 GUARTS OF OIL IN LESS THAN 4 THOUSAND MILES. I HAVE SEEN ON INTERNET SITES THAT THERE ARE A TON OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM
MONDAY, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS A STEADY LIGHT. DROVE APPROX. 60 MILES (TO/FROM WORK). 2 DAYS LATER (MONDAY) TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WHERE VEHICLE CUT-OFF IN FRONT OF DEALERSHIP WHILE GOING STRAIGHT AFTER PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT (ALL LIGHTS WERE STILL ON; HIT GAS AND REALIZED IT WAS OFF). RESTARTED VEHICLE, HIT GAS AND IT CUT OFF AGAIN. RESTARTED AND PULLED INTO GARAGE AND WAS TOLD TO LEAVE CAR RUNNING IN DEALERSHIP. PERSON WHO MOVED VEHICLE SAID IT CUT-OFF 4 MORE TIMES WHILE GOING APPROX. 20FT.
THE CAR STALLS AFTER BEING STARTED AND TRYING TO GO. PUT HOME DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER ON THE VEHICLE AND IT POINTS TO THE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE FAILING. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE EQUINOX AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR IT.
DRIVER REPORTS CAR STALLS WHEN APPLYING GAS PEDAL, CAR HAS SMELL OF GAS. THIS STALLING HAPPENS AT LOW AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. KILLS WHEN PUT IN REVERSE. HARD TO ACCELERATE. OIL WAS CHANGED TWO WEEKS AGO BUT THAT DID NOT HELP. FOUND CODE P0010 FOR THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID PERFORMANCE. TESTED THE INTAKE SOLENOID AND IT HAD 1.4K OHMS. SHOULD BE BETWEEN 8-13OHMS. REPLACED THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOIDS.
CAR STALLS WHEN STOPPED AT RED LIGHT
MY 2016 CHEVY EQUINOX RANDOMLY STALLS WHILE DRIVING, AT ANY RANDOM TIME. NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS GO OFF TO LET ME KNOW THAT THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, IT JUST STOPS. EVERYTHING TURNS OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND ALL POWER SHUTS OFF. YOU HAVE TO STOP AND THROW IT IN PARK AND RESTART IT. IT USUALLY DOES RESTART RIGHT AWAY BUT THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MOST OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE FROM A COMPLETE STOP OR SLOW DOWN, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WHILE IN DRIVE. VEHICLE STALLS WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN STOPPED. VEHICLE STALLED ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM COULD BE THE PISTON RINGS OR CRANK SENSOR. *TR
TRUCK WAS SPUTTERING WHILE DRIVING AND COULD SMELL OIL & HAD SMOKE COMING FROM BACK. TOOK TO CHEVY DEALER IN JANUARY. DEALER REPLACED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR & BORED/RESET THROTTLE BODY & RESET IDLE. THEY CLAIMED THERE WASNT A LEAK. TWO WEEKS LATER OIL WAS POURING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK & IT WAS BACK AT THE DEALER WITH PROOF OF A MASSIVE LEAK. THEY KEPT MY TRUCK TIL MARCH 23 AND IT WAS THE PCV PORT HAD TO BE MODIFIED AND BLOWN REAR MAIN SEAL ON THE ENGINE ($1,948). I ONLY HAVE 65,000 MILES ON IT. RESEARCHING 2016 MODEL, I FOUND THE MAIN ISSUES ARE THE PCV PORT & REAR MAIN SEAL AND THE FACT THAT GENERAL MOTORS WAS & IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM! WHY ISNT SOMETHING BEING DONE?
LIFTGATE WILL NOT OPEN CODE P0010 AND P0011 ON VEHICLE. PARTS CHANGED AND CODE P0011 STILL SHOWING. CAUSES VEHICLE TO STALL VERY DANGEROUS.THIS CAR IS TOO NEW TO HAVE THIS MANY PROBLEMS. WHEN RESEARCHING ONLINE, A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH SAME ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JIM TRENARY CHEVROLET OF TROY LOCATED AT 200 PROFESSIONAL PKWY, TROY, MO 63379 TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PVC FREEZE PLUG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
THE OLDER MODEL EQUINOX HAD AN ISSUE WITH IT'S HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, SO DID MY NEWER 2016. IT FAILED AND WAS PUSHING FUEL INTO THE ENGINE AT EXTREME LEVELS. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STOP WORKING PROPERLY AND FAIL. THE GM TECHNICIANS SAID THEY FIXED THE ISSUE RECENTLY, BUT WOULD NOT GO ON. I WAS DRIVING IN A POTENTIAL FIRE STARTER. THE ACTUAL ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE ENGINE BLEW UP AND LUCKILY DID NOT START A FIRE WITH THE AMOUNT OF GAS THAT WAS IN THE ENGINE.
WHILE DRIVING, AT 55MPH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT WARNING AND THE DASH SHOWED "SERVICE STABILITRAK" AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY REDUCED SPEED TO AROUND 30MPH BEFORE I COULD APPLY THE GAS. I IMMEDIATELY TOO THE VEHICLE TO MONRO MUFFLER AND BRAKE FOR SERVICE. WHEN I ARRIVED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NO OIL. I PERFORMED REGULAR OIL CHANGES ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ABOUT LOW OIL PRESSURE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT OVERHEAT. THE ENGINE NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT. PRESS THE GAS, CAR SPUTTERS AND STALLS OUT. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUES HAPPEN TO ME 6 TIMES.
THE TIMING BELT ON MY ENGINE WENT OUT RESULTING IN MY VEHICLE DYING WHENEVER MY CAR IDLED LOW. IF I DIDN?T CONSTANTLY GIVE IT SOME GAS, THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF. THIS WOULD HAPPEN AT RED LIGHTS AND STOP SIGN WHERE I COULDN?T GIVE THE CAR GAS, SO I?D END UP STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH INCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED AND TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS (ONE AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP) SAID THAT TIMING BELTS ARE AN ISSUE WITH CHEVY EQUINOX. THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST REPAIR I NEEDED DONE ON MY CAR AND AT ONLY 77,000 MILES. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID I?D MOST LIKELY ONLY GET ANOTHER 50,000 MILES OUT OF THE ENGINE. THAT WOULD BE SHORT OF 130,000 MILES. I THINK IF TIMING BELTS ARE SUCH AND ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE THEN THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON...

AFTER ARRIVING HOME, THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND BECAME AWARE OF AN OIL LEAK UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. I'VE HAD THE VVT CELANIDE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE CRANK AND CAM SHAFT SENSORS; THE VVT GEARS AND AN OIL PUMP REBUILD...$2017.60 LATER, MY TRUCK DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES WHERE IT DIED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR (ASIDE FROM THE 3 MILES) IN NEARLY 2 MONTHS. NOW I'M BEING TOLD THEY THINK IT MAY BE ELECTRICAL. MY TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HEARD FROM NUMEROUS GOGGLE SEARCHES THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE ISSUES WITH THIS MOTOR/VEHICLE AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.

NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM EVER CAME ON. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSSHIP, AND 2 DAYS LATER WAS INFORMED BY THEM THAT THE ENGINE HAD RUN OUT OF OIL, AND I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE THAT WOULD COST ME $8500. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I DISCOVERED THAT EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MOTOR, THE 2.4L ECOTEC. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST GM RESULTED IN A $42 MILLION JUDGEMENT AGAINST GM, BUT IT ONLY COVERED MODEL YEARS 2010-2013. IF THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHEN I REACH THIS MILAGE, WHAT IS MY RECOURSE?

PASSENGER AIR BAG ALARM GOES OFF WHEN SEAT IS EMPTY AND OCCASIONALLY THE PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNS OFF WHILE AN ADULT PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT DUE TO A FAULTY CONNECTOR. THIS HAPPENS SPORADICALLY DURING ALL TYPES OF DRIVING, IDLING OR WHILE PARKED. THE CONCERN THAT DURING AN IMPACT THE FAULTY CONNECTOR WILL CAUSE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO NOT DEPLOY WHILE A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT IS HIGHLY WORRY SOME AND EVEN THOUGH CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE CONDITION, THEY WON'T RECALL OR FIX THE ISSUE. TIMING CHAIN FAILURE CAN CAUSE SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND SUDDEN STALLING DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION LEADING TO POSSIBLE COLLISIONS AS THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF. I WILL THEN HAVE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO BEGIN DRIVING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED WHILE TURNING.

DRIVING ON THE NJ TURNPIKE JANUARY 22 2019 FREEZING COLD OUT DAY 15' AND MY CAR JUST DIES. I CAME TO A ROLLING STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 20 MPH AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE REGAINED NORMAL FUNCTION. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO BUFF WHELAN CHEVROLET (40445 VAN DYKE AVENUE, STERLING HEIGHTS, MI 48313, (877-237-3928) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACCELERATOR ELECTRONIC INDICATOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR MY ENGINE STARTED TO FLUTTER WHEN NOTICING THAT I PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY AND MY ENGINE SHUT OFF. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE DEALERSHIP TOOK A LOOK AT IT THEY REALIZED IT WAS A PCV CLOG FROM CONDENSATION GETTING IN TO THE PCV VALVE. I HAVE 72000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE SO THERE IS NO MORE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT COVER IT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT COVER CLOGS. UPON RESEARCHING THIS I FOUND OUT THAT CHEVY HAD A LOT OF THESE AND ACTUALLY EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON VEHICLES FROM 2010 TO 2014 FOR THE SAME ISSUE. DROVE CAR 10 MILES, THEN TOOK A LEFT TURN AND EVERYTHING SHUT OFF AND WHEEL LOCKED. NO POWER OR ANY WARNING SIGNS OF A BREAK DOWN. RESTARTED CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. TOOK IN FOR A CHECK UP AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO 'RECREATE THE INSTANCE'.

THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED IN 2016. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES WERE ERASED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE "LOW VOLTAGE" FAILURE READING. ADDITIONALLY, AN ALARM SOUNDED, THE SEAT BELT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGE READINGS WERE INCONCLUSIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED CASE...
AFTER IGNITION STARTED AND PLACED IN REVERSE THE CAR WOULD THEN SHUT OFF WHILE IN REVERES. IT WOULD ALSO SHUT OFF WHILE IN DRIVE. BUT ONLY WHILE FIRST TAKING OFF. EVERY TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON REGULAR ROADS AND IN PARKING LOTS. FUEL TANK FULL
THE CAR CONSUMES MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL, LIKE THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS. NO WARNING IS GIVEN THAT THE VEHICLE RUNS OUT OF OIL CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PISTONS, TIMING CHAINS AND ENGINE. GM DROPPED THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY TO 60 K KNOWING THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS ISSUES SINCE 2011- TO CURRENT. THE FAILURE HAPPENS AT 58-60 K MILES MAKING IT THE CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THIS ENORMOUS REPAIR. IN TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE YET NO ONE HAS INFORMED THE OWNERS THAT OIL CONSUMPTION ON A BRAND NEW CAR WOULD NEED TO BE MONITORED OR THAT NO ENGINE LIGHT WOULD BE TRIGGERED. EXHAUST FUMES LEAKING INTO DRIVER CABIN, HORRIBLE TOXIC ODOR, FAMILY GOT SICK FROM BEING INSIDE OF VEHICLE. STATIONARY, OR IN MOTION. TOXIC ODORS AND SAME HEALTH EFFECTS WHEN NOT RUNNING. ODER ON CLOTHING, HAIR, SKIN. IMMEDIATE ADVERSE HEALTH SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH BEING IN VEHICLE ARE HEADACHE, CHEMICAL TASTE IN MOUTH, SORE THROAT. I NOTICED CONDITION 1/22/2016 BUT IT WAS PRESENT PRIOR TO THIS AS I DO NOT USE VEHICLE OFTEN.
