SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON, SYSTEM APPLIED RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CAUSING THE CAR TO SWERVE AND TURN ABRUPTLY TO THE RIGHT. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OTHER CAR IN THE NEXT LANE.
CAR SPUN THE BACK TIRES WHEN MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN IN FRONT OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WAS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND CORRECTED THE CAR AT THE SAME TIME THE ACTIVE HANDING APPLIED THE FRONT BRAKES TO LOCKUP AND WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. I MESSED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS & THEY DISENGAGES & I WENT ABOUT 200 FEET GOING STRAIGHT & THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE APPLIED TO LOCKUP & THE SAME THING I HAD TO MESS WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL & IT RELEASED. I NEVER SHUT THE CAR OFF & AS I RESUMED DRIVING I COULD FEEL THE STEERING WAS NOT RIGHT IT FELT LIKE THE VARIABLE ASSIST STEERING THOUGH THE CAR WAS GOING WAY FAST (THE STEERING WAS WAY TO HEAVY). I WENT ABOUT 2 MILES LIKE THIS AND IT DID NOT CHANGE. I PULLED OVER & SHUT...
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 CORVETTE IN TRAFFIC AND REALIZED I NEED TO BE IN THE NEXT LINE TO MAKE THE NEXT TURN. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME, SO I TURNED THE WHEEL SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT AND GAVE IT A LIITLE GAS. AS I WAS STRAIGHTENING OUT THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENLTY, IT FELT LIKE ALL FOUR BRAKES WHERE LOCKING UP AND RELEASING RANDOMLY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL SHAKING. THE ACTIVE HANDLING ACTIVE WAS ON THE INFO CENTER. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID SOMETHING WITH STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR. *TR
INITIALLY CAR WAS INTERMITTENTLY NOT STARTING. DIC INDICATOR STATED STEERING WHEEL WAS "LOCKED". ON MARCH 11, 2011, I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. UPON MY RESEARCH 1997-2004 MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. MODELS 2006-2010 THE FEATURE - "STEERING COLUMN LOCK" WAS NOT INSTALLED ON THE CARS. MY CONCERN IS 2005 MODELS HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED AND COULD CAUSE POSSIBLE DEATHS OF OWNERS AND OR OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC.
2005 / C6 CORVETTE,SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE DISPLAYED,SEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND INFORMATION ABOUT WIRING CONNECTOR CLIP FOR STEER WHEEL SENSOR, WENT TO DEALER AND PICKED UP AND INSTALLED THE COMB FOR THE CONNECTOR AND FIXED WIRING HARNESS SO IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN STEERING COLUMN WAS CYCLED IN & OUT . THIS DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, WHEN GOING TO WORK AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND TURNING LEFT A LITTLE THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE DEPLOYED AND PULLED ME IN TO THE LEFT ON COMING LANE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALER THE TECH READ THE CODES AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW STEERING WHEEL SENSOR HE INSTALLED THE NEW SENSOR AND SAID THAT SHOULD FIX IT AFTER ABOUT ONE OR TWO DAYS THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN SO I STARTED TURNING OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ACTIVE HANDLING, AFTER SOME TIME I FORGOT TOO TURN OFF...
I JUST ENTERED THE FREEWAY AND TRAFFIC WAS SLOW 40 TO 45 MPH. I MOVED FROM FAR RIGHT TO CENTER LANE THEN FROM CENTER TO LEFT LANE. WHEN I MOVED FROM CENTER TO LEFT I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 45 AND 50 MPH WHEN THE REAR OF THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE OUT OF CONTROL. WHEN I BUT DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY AS THE ROADS WHERE DRY AND CLEAR. AS I TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND AND CONTINUED TO SLIDE COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL 180 DEGREE AND SLID SIDEWAYS INTO A WALL OF PLOWED ICE AND SNOW IN THE LEFT SHOULDER AND FLIP ON ITS ROOF. THE LOSS OF UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THIS HAPPENED HAS GIVEN ME MUCH ANGUISH AS I KNOW I HAD THE TRACTION CONTROL HANDLING ON, UNTIL I FOUND OUT ABOUT A RECALL HAVING TO DO WITH THE STEERING AND HANDLING A FEW MONTHS...
THE PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL # N100118 "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" CALLS FOR A CLIP TO BE INSTALLED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN SOME CASES THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE CLIP REPLACED AND STILL CONTINUED TO HAVE THE RECALL PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AND NOW I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT MY STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR WAS BAD (SWPS) AND THAT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY THE $385.00 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. TO ME THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE! GM NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THE 2CENT CLIP IS NOT THE FIX ALL. DRIVING DOWN TWO LANE ROAD BRAKE LOCKS JERKING ME ALMOST INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM GOES ON AND OFF WITHOUT ME DEPRESSING BUTTON, BRAKES LOCK WITHOUT REASON. I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE THAT I PURCHASED FROM A GMC DEALERSHIP AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON 05/22/2010. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER I SAW A WARNING ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM". I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP CLOSEST TO WHERE I WORK AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED ON 06/15/2010. ON 07/09/2010, AND 07/11/2010, THE WARNING REAPPEARED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON 07/12/2010 BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR IT AT THAT TIME BECAUSE NO "CODES" WERE BEING FOUND INDICATING A PROBLEM. I WAS ON THE TRIMBLE ROAD ON RAMP IN SAN JOSE, CA MERGING ONTO FREEWAY 101 AT APPROXIMATELY 1235 PM PST AND 793 FEET FROM THE DE LA CRUZ/TRIMBLE ROAD TRAFFIC LIGHT. TRAFFIC CONDITIONS WERE LIGHT, WEATHER WAS DRY AND ROAD CONDITIONS WERE EXCELLENT. THE ON RAMP IS APPROXIMATELY AN 1/4TH OF A MILE LONG. I PULLED INTO THE COMMUTER LANE TO PASS 2 VEHICLES THAT WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH. I PASSED THE FIRST VEHICLE AND WAS ABOUT TO PASS THE SECOND WHEN MY 2005 CORVETTE STEERED TO THE RIGHT CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT OF MY CAR TO IMPACT A 1984 4 DOOR SEDAN TOYOTA ON THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL/BUMPER, BEHIND THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. OVER THE LAST YEAR MY " SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" LIGHT HAS COME ON. AFTER A WHILE IT GOES OFF. TEN DAYS AGO IT CAME ON AGAIN FOR A WHILE, THEN WENT OFF. AFTER THAT I WAS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SWERVED TO THE RIGHT. LIGHT CAME ON SAYING "DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL", WHICH I DID AND GAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR. I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE AND WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS BESIDE ME WHEN IT SWERVED TO THE RIGHT OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. I WAS ALSO LUCKY IT DIDN'T SWERVE LEFT OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THE GUARD RAIL. WHEN DRIVING APPROX. 5000RPM ACTIVE HANDLING WILL KICK ON FOLLOWED BY A "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE. WHEN ACTIVE HANDLING ACTIVATES IT CAUSES THE CAR TO APPLY BRAKES AND THE REAR END TO SWERVE. I HAVE HAD THE SENSOR REPLACE A FEW TIMES AND NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 CORVETTE ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT ABOUT 50 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SHOT OFF TO THE LEFT LANE TOWARDS ANOTHER VEHICLE. SHE LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND RETURNED ACROSS THE TWO LANE ROAD HITTING THE CURB, WHICH WAS ABOUT 6" TALL, THE CAR THEN LEFT THE GROUND AND MADE CONTACT WITH A GUARD RAIL THAT WAS TWO RAILS HIGH. THE IMPACT ON THE GUARD RAIL WAS AT THE TOP ABOUT 3' FROM THE GROUND. BEHIND THE GUARD RAIL IS A 75' DROP TO A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. THE CAR THEN CAME BACK ACROSS THE ROAD AND STOPPED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TRAFFIC. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE NOW STANDS AT $20,000.00. ON 01/08/2010, WHILE SLOWING THE CAR THROUGH 55 MPH TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY, THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE APPLIED FOR APPROXIMATELY HALF OF A SECOND PULLING ME INTO THE RIGHT EXIT LANE. MY SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT CAME ON 11/13/09.ON 11/14/09 I WAS TRAVELING ACROSS A BRIDGE AT 55 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY BRAKES AND STEERING LOCKED UP. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I EVENTUALLY SLID TO A STOP CAUSING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME TO SWERVE INTO THE NEXT LANE. I COULD BARELY GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RELEASE. IN REGARDS TO A CURRENT INVESTIGATION CODE EA09-002 WITH THE ODI, WHICH I FOUND ONLINE, I WOULD LIKE TO FILE THE SAME COMPLAINT. TODAY I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 40 MPH AFTER MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM APPEARED AND MY WHEEL PULLED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT. IT DID THIS REPEATEDLY UNTIL I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART IT. UPON RESTART THE ACTIVE HANDLING WARNING WAS NO LONGER THERE AND THE CAR WORKED FINE. 2005 CHEVY CORVETTE 24K MILES ON CAR. FOR THE PRICE OF THIS CAR AND THE LOW MILEAGE THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. I FEAR IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT. *TR

EA09-002 SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING/STABILITY CONTROL WARNING MESSAGE 2005 CORVETTE WITH ELECTRONIC TELESCOPING STEERING COLUMN. MESSAGE HAS DISPLAYED AT LEAST 8 TIMES IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS. LESS THAN 8K MILES TO DATE. *TR
ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM ON A 2005 6-SPEED CHEVY CORVETTE ACTIVATED WHILE DRIVING ~10MPH THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND MAKING A GENTLE RIGHT TURN, SEIZING FRONT LEFT CALIPER UNTIL THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP. DISABLING AHS ELIMINATES ISSUE, BUT SYSTEM REACTIVATES EVERY START. HAPPENED AGAIN EXITING A HIGHWAY JUST MINUTES LATER. CAR HAS ~30K MILES, WITH NO ACCIDENTS OR PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z51 WITH 1SB PACKAGE. SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING CAME ON WHILE DRIVING, CAR SWERVED AND ALMOST HIT A CURB. INTERMITTENTLY IT COMES ON AND OFF ON START UP. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND IT IS HARD TO REPRODUCE THIS ISSUE SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT. CURRENT INVESTIGATION NUMBER EA09-002. *TR
THE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" WARNING KEEPING COMING UP WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. *TR
MY ACTIVE HANDLING ACTIVATES ALMOST WEEKLY AT LOWER SPEEDS WHILE TURNING, EVEN WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF. THE PROBLEM IS IT LOCKS UP THE FRONT BRAKES AND I CAN NOT TURN OR MOVE THE VEHICLE!! WHILE THIS MAY NOT SOUND TOO SERIOUS AT LOW SPEEDS, IMAGINE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THE BRAKES LOCK UP ON YOUR CAR. IT OCCURS PULLING ONTO GRASS OR LOOSE GRAVEL ALSO, ESPECIALLY IN TURNS. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT FOR IT TO MOVE AGAIN. THE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT COMES ON BUT WILL GO AWAY WHEN RESTARTED. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED LAST FALL AND I FINALLY ADDRESSED IT WITH THE LOCAL GM SHOP WITH TSB 06-02-35-0002B ON 1/2/09 ($88.15 SERVICE), WHICH ADDED A CLIP TO THE SWPC CONNECTOR. IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM LONG TERM. I DO HAVE STOCK SIZE STREET TIRES ON MY CAR ALSO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRIC STABILITY CONTROL WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE ACTIVE HANDLING ENGAGES AUTOMATICALLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. WHEN MANUALLY DISENGAGED, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RE-ENGAGE IF IT SENSES A CRASH. WHEN A CRASH IS DETECTED, THE BRAKES LOCK AND THE STEERING TURNS. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES FOR THE MANUAL ACTIVE CONTROL. THE FAILURE OCCURS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY REPLACED THE SENSORS AND STATED THAT MORE COULD BE DONE. NO WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM PRODUCED ERRATIC HANDLING AND NOW I JUST HAD A WARNING THAT THE ACTIVE HANDLING IS RECALIBRATING ITSELF. I DON'T TRUST THE CAR. *TR
ACTIVE HANDLING ERROR DISPLAYED. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON 3/23, DEALER INSTALLED A WIRING CLIP PER TSB 06-02-35-002. APPROXIMATELY 6 DAYS LATER (WHILE ON VACATION), WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, ACTIVE HANDLING INDICATION IN DIC, RIGHT, FRONT BRAKE APPLIED BY COMPUTER/HANDLING SYSTEM. RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE BRAKE RELEASED, DROVE APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET, PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. SHUT CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT, APPEARED OK. LUCKILY, I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 25 MPH. TOOK CAR TO LOCAL DEALER IN FL. THIS DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR. *TR
SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING ERROR APPEARS ON MY DIC AT RANDOM TIMES ALTHOUGH NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WRONG. I CAN SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND TURN IT BACK ON AND THE ERROR DOES NOT APPEAR. THERE ARE OTHER TIMES THAT IT WILL REAPPEAR BUT THE VEHICLE DRIVES OK. I WILL TURN ACTIVE HANDLING OFF WHEN THE ERROR APPEARS. IT SEEMS TO APPEAR ONLY WHEN I HAVE KEY FOB NO 2 IN MY POCKET. BECAUSE I'VE HEARD HORROR STORIES ABOUT ACTIVE HANDLING "TAKING OVER THE VEHICLE" I'M VERY CAUTIOUS ABOUT THIS FUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE. I MENTIONED THIS TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO IGNORE IT SINCE THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO DISPLAY. *TR
THERE IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH MY CORVETTE THAT I BELIEVE IS TIED TO FAULTS IN THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY FOLLOWING A LEFT CURVE WHEN I FELT THE BRAKES GRAB. I SAW "ACTIVE HANDLING" DISPLAYED; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ACTIVE HANDLING TO OCCUR (ROADWAY WAS DRY, WAS DRIVING AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT, WAS NOT MAKING A SUDDEN TURNING MANEUVER). LATER I SAW THAT THE CAR WAS DISPLAYING A FRONT RIGHT TIRE PRESSURE OF 0 PSI, BUT NO OTHER WARNINGS OCCURRED (TYPICALLY, A YELLOW WARNING LIGHT GOES ON AN CAR DISPLAYS A LOW TIRE PRESSURE OR RIGHT FRONT TIRE FLAT WARNING WHEN THIS OCCURS). I'VE HAD ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM AND CHEVY HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR ONCE. USUALLY ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES WILL READ ZERO PSI AND THE AFOREMENTIONED WARNINGS WILL APPEAR, AND THE CAR'S ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM...

ACTIVE HANDLING ACTIVATED ON MY 2005 CORVETTE AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE BRAKES, REPEATEDLY, ON ONLY THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. WAS CRUISING AT A STEADY SPEED IN A STRAIGHT LINE.
