The contact’s wife owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated there was an abnormal fuel odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. While exiting the vehicle, the contact became aware that there was an oil leak underneath the rear end of the vehicle, and the fuel odor was more evident. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was jerking while accelerating and while driving from being stationary. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The car idles very low when stopped and sputters/putters like it's going to die. It has now actually died on me twice while driving, luckily when you put it in park and turn the car off and back on it starts right back up but you can see how this is a severe safety hazard. The first time it died I was stopped in the turning lane waiting on traffic to go by so I could turn left (this is the busiest street in town) I go to start turning left the car just shuts off mid turn crossing the other lane of the street, luckily I didn't get hit by oncoming traffic and was able to coast onto the side street that I was turning on and pull over and turn the car off and back on and drive it home. Before I get into all of it there has never been an accident not yet at least. I do everything I can to try an stop that from happening, (but accidents do happen) only because I know my car could kill on me so I’m extra careful. 1) After I get gas I’m my car the car won’t start right away. I have to restart it a couple times an step in the gas an rev up wasting the gas I just put in to get it to start. 2) When I stop an start to pull out of somewhere on to a main road the car will just die on me so I’m stuck pulling out in traffic trying to get my car to start again. The problem that sent it to a different mechanic than the chevy dealer where it came from after a month and 900.00 bill for 550.00 ecm and diagnostic test they did without my permission, there labor for the test and ecm was a total of 900.00. Plus claimed it was throwing a code for a peddle that it needed. We just put a brand new peddle and brand new throttle body on it, it was idled to high, so reason for them getting it was to get the old ecm and new throttle sinked up to reduce the idle , at the time of it leaving me it started and ran just idle to high. My power steering alert came up and immediately I start having trouble driving as the steering wheel got tight. Almost had a accident and there is other problems with my 2006 chevy cobalt lt that have been on recall and I cannot get any help at local dealership

CAR WILL RESTART AND BEHAVE NORMALLY. DEALER REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH UNDER RECALL IN LATE 2014. WENT TO DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR HELP WITH STICKING IGNITION SWITCH. CURRENTLY DEALER REFUSES TO REINSPECT IGNITION SWITCH WITH OUT AGREEMENT TO DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE. CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. GM ADMITS THERE IS A EXTENDED WARRANTY UNTIL 2020 FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH {WARRANTY LETTER 14632) CUSTOMER SERVICE REP FURTHER INDICATED THAT ANY PARTS REPLACED HAVE A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ONLY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON. I LOST STEERING CONTROL AND MY CAR STARTED SHIFTING ROUGH AND EVENTUALLY MY POWER DEMINISHED. THE VEHICLE CAN MESS UP FROM EITHER DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY THAT THE ENGINE STALLS AND SAYS "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALONG WITH THE T/C LIGHT COMES ON. IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES IN JUST 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING, MORE FOR LONGER TRIPS. IT WILL EVEN DO IT IN 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. YOU HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN VEHICLE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT DRIVES FINE FOR MAYBE A MILE DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE IT DOES IT AGAIN, OR, YOU CAN CONTINUE DRIVING IT WITH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD TRYING TO GET SPEED WHICH IF YOU DO THE CAR SHIFTS GEAR VERY BADLY AND RIDES ROUGH BUT WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO GET TO WORK ON TIME YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TOO. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR IT SEEMS TO FEEL LIKE THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED AND THE CAR IS TOWING A HEAVY LOAD AND THE SPEED WILL DECREASE AS I CONTINUE TO DRIVE FORCING ME TO PARK THE VEHICLE. I TURN THE CAR OFF FOR AN HOUR OR TWO AND IT WILL DRIVE NORMALLY AGAIN BUT IF DRIVEN TO LONG IT WILL SLOW DOWN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD IGNITION SWITCH RECALL WORK PERFORMED ON MY CAR. FOLLOWING THAT, OR PERHAPS DUE TO INCREASED MILEAGE, I BEGAN HAVING POWER PROBLEMS WITH MY COBALT. ON 10/19/15 MY CAR WAS PARKED, WOULDN'T START AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THEN IT STARTED BUT DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO MOVE/RUN. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED - MILEAGE WAS 131,982 AT THE TIME. BATTERY WAS GOOD. THE SHOP SAID IT HAD PO300 CODES - RANDOM MISFIRES. THEY FOUND CYLINDERS 2 AND 3 WERE NOT CONTRIBUTING POWER DUE TO A BAD IGNITION MODULE. SO THE IGNITION MODULE WAS REPLACED. I ALSO HAD WORN SPARK PLUGS REPLACED, AS THE SHOP RECOMMENDED I DO SO. THE CAR STILL HAD MISFIRE CODES AND WOULD HESITATE WHEN RE-ACCELERATING AFTER STOPS, SO I PAID FOR A NEW FUEL FILTER AT THE REPAIR SHOP'S RECOMMENDATION. THE 2ND DIAGNOSIS OF MALFUNCTIONING CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN SUMMER OF 2013. THE 3RD DIAGNOSIS OF FAULTY STARTER WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING STARTER IN JULY 2014. THE 4TH DIAGNOSIS OF BAD STARTER WAS REPAIRED BY REMOVING & REPLACING THE STARTER OCTOBER 2015. AN DISPLAY SAYING LOW FUEL AND POWER STEERING AND WHEN TRY TO CHANGE DISPLAY IT READS ---------- AND IT DID THE SAME THING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD SO I PULLED OVER AND TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND ONLY THE SECURITY LIGHT STAYED ON. THE FIRST TIME THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM BEGAN, BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN OH SO MANY OTHERS, I TURNED ON THE CAR AND A POWER STEERING MESSAGED APPEARED. THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING ELSE, JUST THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE. THIS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. THEN ONE EVENING WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR STARTED TO HOP, THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE CAME ON WITH A DINGING ALARM, THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 5 MPH, AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE, ALONG WITH THE BREAKS.
