Recall 17V379000 — EXTERIOR LIGHTING

| 92 vehicles affected

Defect: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2015 740i, 740Li, 740Lxi, 750i, 750xi, 750Li and 750Lxi and 2014 ActiveHybrid 7 vehicles. The affected vehicles may have received incorrect replacement left rear taillight assemblies. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence: Vehicles with the incorrect left rear lamp assemblies may be less conspicuous to other drivers, possibly increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any incorrect left rear taillight assemblies, free of charge. The recall began August 11, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 BMW 750I. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE UPPER FUEL PUMP WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 BMW 750I. WHILE DRIVING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED, THE DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAIL PIPE. AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT MISFIRED. UPON STARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT OPERATE AT FULL CAPACITY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND EMITTED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE AND TO CONTACT BMW FOR MORE ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
