THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES TO THE GROCERY STORE, PARKED, WE SHOPPED, 30 MINUTES LATER, DROVE BACK HOME, AGAIN ABOUT 10 MINUTES. BACKED THE VEHICLE INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. GROCERIES WERE UNLOADED WHILE MY GIRLFRIEND WAS TRYING TO GET MY 18 MONTH DAUGHTER OUT OF THE CAR SEAT. SHE DID, CAME INSIDE AND APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES LATER A NEIGHBOR SLAMMED ON MY DOOR SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SMOKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I WENT OUTSIDE, TRIED TO RELIEVE THE ISSUE WITH AN EXTINGUISHER, THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION. THE SMOKE INCREASED, I WAS AFRAID TO POP THE HOOD DUE TO RISK OF OXYGEN EXPOSURE TO WHAT I ASSUMED WAS IN ACTIVE FIRE. 911 WAS CALLED, MINUTES LATER THE ENTIRE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY ENGULFED WITH FLAMES. FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE.

ENGINE OIL LEAK; ENGINE COOLANT LEAK; BLUE SMOKE THRU TAILPIPE; STRANGE NOISES MAKING CONCERNED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE ENGINE OIL SIGN HAD ALWAYS COME ON TOO FREQUENTLY FROM THE BEGINNING OF PURCHASE ENGINE OIL COOLANT FREQUENCY DEVELOPED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS AND CAME TO A STAGE QUESTIONING THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (SIDREY BMW IN GREENVALE, SC) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC AUXILIARY WATER PUMP OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V521000 (ENGINE), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
