2015 ACURA TLX Engine Problems

My 2015 Acura TLX’s engine has internal issues with rod bearings, as mentioned in other recalls of the same year, yet my VIN does not fall within the recall.

Subject: Complaint - Safety Recall Failure (#23V75100) - Engine Failure Summary: This is a complaint regarding a failure of the safety recall repair performed under Recall #23V75100, which addressed a rod bearing issue that can cause engine failure. Details: 1. On or about April 4, 2024, Southern Acura of Newport News, VA replaced the long block under Recall #23V75100 after the original engine failed at approximately 130,810 miles. 2. On or about September 5, 2024, at approximately 173,722 miles, the replacement engine failed again. 3.The vehicle is currently located at Hall Acura of Virginia Beach, VA. , where the dealership has verified that the engine is seized and available for inspection. 4. The failure occurred while driving at approximately 70 mph in a construction zone, where there was no immediate shoulder or safe area to pull off. My 17 year old son drove across town about 6-7 miles from home, on a back road. Out of nowhere, his 2015 TLX started to make a sound like knocking or thumping. Just moments afterwards, most if not all of the engine warning lamps illuminated at once.. He pulled off as best he could there was a loss of power and massive amounts of steam pouring out from the under hood. At sunrise I went to the car to wait for AAA I was astonished at the mess on the pavement under and around the car, and even more surprised to hear from my mechanic told that the engine had seized. I remember my mechanic using the word "warped" to describe it to me. I had him replace the engine, as I was I unaware of the recall at that time. It was not inspected by anyone besides my mechanic.

Connecting rod bearing seizure leading to engine failure on the TLX 2018 engine 3.5 liter V6 engine. Our 2015 TLX Acura we had to replace our engine because of the connecting rod bearing seizure and our extended warranty covered it around 2020. In 2023 the second the Acura motor which is TLX 2018 engine 3.5 liter V6 failed due to same problem, connecting rod bearing seizure. Acura will not do a recall on that motor. They say because its was manufacture in a different warehouse its not covered or a problem. I know there are other people struggling with the same issues on the 2018 engine. I know there are other investigations on this motor.

Oil pump seal leaking, was leaking prior to rod bearing recall repair, Acura didn't recommend nor replace during recall, engine is smoking, also at night, lane keep assist repeatly steers towards passing vehicle headlights almost causing head-on collision, extremely scary, this is ridiculous and I'm stuck with vehicle being I'm upside down on loan, Absolutely a nightmare!!!! Contacted dealership that completed recall and was given run around so I called acura and they spoke with dealer, dealer waived diagnostic fee, but are charging for parts n services which I can't afford. And, I no longer trust them under my hood so unsure of what to do!!! This is my hard earned money at work!!!

acura tlx stop start system It will turn off on red light or stop! Engine fails to restart on its own! Jump start required!!!! Is NOT SAFE for millions of families!

I was driving on the freeway for about 5 minutes and literally out of no where my car began to make a strange noise and then my engine light came on. Following that my car shut off and I immediately lost power I pulled over as best I can and turn my hazard on eventually the car died because I couldn’t get a tow out fast enough and I’ve had it sitting at a shop ever since this incident.. tell

Three years ago, the car started stalling at traffic lights coming to a stop battery was replaced and the problem went away. A new battery was installed a few months ago and in the last week the same stalling situation has occurred three times. Acura says there’s a software update, and when the car was brought in for the recall on the connecting rod bearings, they said they refreshed the software pertaining to this issue, but obviously it does not work others say that it has to do with the idle stop and that disabling it resolves this problem. I haven’t tested this yet, but I am going to, but it’s an ongoing problem. That’s a major safety concern and could cause a fatal accident.

Bakersfield Acura Don't have a answer yet when they are going to fix the recall

Unable to get an appointment to address the Connecting Rod Bearing recall until May 12, 2025 which is the earliest available. Apparently, Acura is not providing their dealers with enough required tools and parts to do more than 5-6 recall appointments per week with some weeks having no parts available. Given that the engine can actually seize if this issue is present, being asked to wait until May 2025 is simply I unacceptable and does not meet your comment on your website about effecting the repairs in a “timely manner”. I have contacted 4 different dealers and all report the same issues with lack of tools and parts. Acura needs to step up acquisition or manufacturing of tools and parts.

When the vehicle is running in driveway and I then get into it a few minutes later and drive around the corner, when coming to a stop it jerks as if it wants to stall. This happens when I am driving as well and slow down, it’ll jerk and push me forward a little and happens daily so not sure why my vin didn’t come up with a recall because it sounds a lot like the fuel pump issue the one recall mentioned.

My vehicle is experiencing stalling and shutting off in the middle of the road and could cause a possible accident.

I received notice of a recall on my 2015 Acura TLX in January 2024. The notice indicated parts were not available for repair and I would receive further notice when parts became available in early spring. I heard nothing by May 1 so called the dealer. They said parts are coming in slowly and the first available appointment they could give me for repair would be in AUGUST. I am planning to transfer this car to a family member in June, so this is unacceptable. It also means that I continue to be exposed to any safety problems that arise.

While driving vehicle goes into neutral on its own and will not go back into drive for at least 30 mins.

The contact owns a 2015 Acura TLX. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine sounded abnormally loud. The contact stated that the engine was running hard at a slow speed. In addition, the contact noticed that when the vehicle was stopped, the engine idled rough and loudly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. This complaint is NOT for a problem that has occurred. This is a complaint about the refusal of Acura (Honda) to perform the necessary inspection & potential repairs associated with Recall Report # [XXX]; potential connecting rod bearing issue. The intitial recall was issued in 11-2023 with instructions to await receipt of a letter from Acura in Spring 2024, instructing me to schedule an inspection appt with an Acura dealer for inspection. I have called a local dealer several times over the last month & been put off for inspection appt due to "lack of parts". Today, [XXX], I was told by the dealer (Maus Acura of Tampa, FL) that no inspections would be performed until "the Fall" of 2024 per the direction of Acura, unless my vehicle was currently experiencing an issue. Complete engine failure occurred. Certified Acura dealership inspected and confirmed connecting rod failure was the cause. Vehicle was no longer operable. The vehicle had to be towed to the original dealership for repairs, a new engine was the remedy at the consumers expense. Vehicle was being driven at the time of engine failure, which put the safety of the driver and others at serious risk. This recall is overly delayed and has caused a financial burden along with the safety of many individuals. It needs to be remedied.

I took my car to an Acura dealer because there was a noticeable increase in engine noise upon starting and at lower engine rpms. The dealer identified that the problem was related to a recall - NHTSA # 23v-751. He also informed me that it may be 3-4 months before Acura is ready ro rectify this problem. The problem has serious consequences and I would like Acura to rectify it much sooner.

I was driving, and my car started slowing down smoking under the hood with a loud noise under the hood like a knocking sounds. Then I heard a loud bang. Paid a tow company to tow my car to the shop mechanic found a large hole in the block. Last oil changed was 03/16/2023. I called acura to see if a recall had been reported after learning about other people having the same issues. It didn't seem normal for a car to blow a block that had oil in it and only 99,000 miles on the engine. Now my car is in the shop and I have been paying to get the engine replaced. The emissions control warning come on every now and then.. and it goes by it self I have my car completely stock. No modifications... The emission control light come on the dash following parking brake system problem.. I have file another complaint on another form...and it goes away by itself.. I've check with my dealership and they have not responded me yet

My check airbag light came on. Also, when I'm driving, my car stalls in the middle of the road and is unable to move, and it keeps doing that. And it does not have a check engine light, but it keeps stalling.

When driving my car it is switching from drive to neutral on the rd

My car shifts itself into neutral automatically at times while I am driving. It has even happened on the interstate. When this happens it also flashes lots of warning signals on the dash and will be stalled for 4-5 minutes, engine will not shut down, just cannot shift into reverse or drive. The Acura dealership had it all day and they were stumped so they did a software update. I have read this exact problem has happened with other Acura's this same year and model and it was crimped wiring harness of the transmission.

The cars dash lights all keep coming on and I lose all power to the vehicle while driving. Check engine light and serveral others will illuminate and continue to flash the warning signs. Car takes what seems like forever to then get back into gear and drive. All of the lights stay on even after shutting the car off and turning back on.

This issue is with the start-stop system. The car fails to restart after it the car stops and the engine shuts off. The car has been serviced twice for this issue. The battery and a cable were replaced at my expense. This resolved the issue for a few months, but it returned again in February of 2022. The battery was replaced under warrantee at that time. This issue has now returned again July, 2022. In at least two of the instances I felt I was extremely at risk as the car was stalled in busy intersections forcing traffic to make emergency stops be hind me or take evasive actions to avoid hitting my car. The normal starting procedure to start the car did not seem to work. There was nothing to indicated to me that there was an issue.

Consistent issue with the auto idle start stop system. This has been a continuous problem during the life of the car. It has happened while stopped at traffic lights, in traffic and while in the drive thru line at fast food restaurants. As a deterrent, I try to remember to disable the auto idle start stop every time I start my car.

Car has feature that kills engine when at full stop. Car fails to automatically restart, often stalling at intersections and causing a dangerous situation. Car has to be turned off and restarted, a process that can take 15 to 30 seconds. With a brand new battery and/or full charge, the car performs flawlessly. It appears that the electrical demands of the car system exceed the ability of the battery and alternator to meet demand. I currently have an AGM battery less than two years old. We typically have 1 to 3 incidents per month where will forget to disable the auto start system, and the car stalls in busy traffic when at a full stop. We bought the car used in 2017, and this problem has been consistent throughout ownership. Dealer answer is that there is nothing wrong with car.

I have owned this car since new, this is not the first time this has happened. The car has an auto idle stop feature. Which when certain contains are meet and the car is at a stop it will turn off the engine. When the brake pedal is released, (and from other factors) the car will restart the engine so driving can resume. The issue that I am reporting is that the car does NOT restart, the engine is dead. The driver has to press the engine start button a few times while trying to get the car started. This has happened to me more than 6 times over the life of the car. In each situation replacing the battery resolved the issue.

I was merging on to the freeway going about 60mph, with traffic right behind me. Car started decelerated and the dash board lit up. A car behind me had to swerve to avoid hitting me. I put on my hazard lights and tried to move to the shoulder the car was only going about 5mph at the time. I turned the car off and restarted to see if it would move, but it was still going about 5mph. After doing this a couple of times I was able to get the car the move at about 20 mph. The dash board is still lit up.

While driving on a highway the car lost all power and every dashboard light came on and started blinking. Car wouldn’t shift gear and lost all power abruptly! I almost caused a horrible accident and this has happened at least 10 times now and I’ve only had my car a year!!!!

My engine got stalled while driving the car and I have to press on push button to restart the car. It's a safaty issue. I have seen a recall on these and verified if the repair is done and looks like it was repaired back in 2019.

Can lost all power while driving 2 times. Stuck in neutral, should steer, couldn’t brake, all lights on dash board came on and told me to pull over and ally emergency brake when safe. Couldn’t shift car into park. Waited 30 mins with foot ok brake and car off, turned back on and was able to shift to park and all lights were off

While driving on interstate I-15 in Las Vegas the car suddenly without any warning stalled and engine shutoff in the middle of the interstate. No warning messsages or indicators on dashboard. There was sufficient fuel in the car. Several attempts to start were made but were unsuccessful. Mu family and I were dangerously trapped on the Interstate for 30 minutes. I could not move the vehicle to safety. After 30 minutes I attempted to start and it started as if nothing happened and I was able to drive it again without problems. I am not a trained technician but I suspect it could be a fuel pump problem. I hace read that there have been recent safety recalls on Acura/Honda cars for fuel pump issues. My car completely lost all power and died on the freeway. All the dash board lights came on and I could break or steer and the car was stuck in Neutral.

WHEN DRIVING ON A WINDY ROAD AROUND 40MPH THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE CAUSING THE CAR TO SUDDENLY DECELERATE TO 5 MPH WHICH NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. THE CAR THEN STARTED DISPLAYING MULTIPLE ERROR CODES ON THE DASH (ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM, EMISSIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, BRAKE HOLD SYSTEM PROBLEM, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM, HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM, LANE DEPARTURE WARNING PROBLEM).

CONSTANT BATTERY DRAINING FROM UNKNOWN ISSUE WITHIN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I AM CURRENTLY ON MY THIRD CAR BATTERY AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR IN JANUARY 2016 WITH 108 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE BEEN USING A PORTABLE BATTERY JUMPER FOR THE LAST MONTH BECAUSE OF THIS ON GOING ISSUE. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER PARKING OVERNIGHT AND HAVE CAUSED A DISTURBANCE IN MY LIFE BEFORE COMMUTING TO AND FROM WORK, ALONG WITH TO COVID19 VACCINATION APPOINTMENTS. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT A RED LIGHT WHERE THE ENGINE IS SUPPOSE TO TURN OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER TO BE GAS EFFICIENT. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO TURN OF THE FEATURE DUE TO THE CAR DYING COMPLETELY IN AT A RED LIGHT AND CAUSING A TRAFFIC JAM. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAVE CAUSED ADDITIONAL INCONVENIENCE IN MY DAILY COMMUTE....

THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF INCIDENTS WHERE I WILL BE DRIVING AND MY CAR SUDDENLY JOLTS AND COASTS TO A STOP. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE CAR IS BEING PLACED IN NEUTRAL WHILE I AM DRIVING BECAUSE WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS. IT WILL JUST REV THE ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL TURN ON AS WELL. I TYPICALLY TURN OFF AND ON THE CAR AND THE CAR WILL THEN WORK JUST FINE. THESE INCIDENTS SEEM TO HAPPEN WHEN I AM DRIVING ON A CITY STREET.

I TURNED OFF MY CAR FOR A MOMENT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START BACK UP IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL.

ON JUNE 7TH 2020 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR , IT STARTED TO SHAKE. AS I STARTED TO DRIVE BACK HOME TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON ALL THE PROBLEMS SHOWED UP IN THE SCREEN . I HAD TO DRIVE WITH MY EMERGENCY HAZARD LIGHTS ON BECAUSE I COULDN'T GO MORE THEN 25 MPH OR IT WOULD SHAKE EVEN MORE . WE HAVE AT LEAST 12 PICTURES OF WHAT'S SHOWING IN THE SCREEN . WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO UPLOAD ONE .

SOY BASED WIRING PLACED IN VEHICLE BY ACURA MANUFACTURE CAUSES AN ATTRACTION TO RODENTS, SQUIRRELS, MICE TO EAT THE WIRES. THE RODENTS ARE ATTRACTED TO THE TASTE OF THE MATERIAL. SINCE JANUARY OF THIS YEAR 2020 I HAVE SUSTAINED DAMAGE THREE TIMES TO MY 2015 ACURA TLX WHICH COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR. THIS SOY BASED MATERIAL IS BEING PLACED IN THE NEWER MODELS TO SAVE ON COST FOR THE MANUFACTURER, BUT LEAVE COSTUMERS, LIKE MYSELF, AT A DEFICIT OF MONEY AND TIME FOR REPAIRS. IT IS ALSO UNSAFE, BECAUSE ONE NEVER KNOWS WHEN THE CAR WILL STOP RUNNING OR IF IT WILL EVEN START. I HAVE BEEN EFFECTED BY THIS IN JANUARY OF 2020, MARCH 2020 AND AGAIN IN MAY 2020. I ALSO OWN A 2015 HONDA ACCORD AND MY HUSBAND A 2009 TOYOTA THAT ARE PARKED IN THE SAME AREA AND NO SUCH DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED TO...

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 ACURA TLX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO NORRIS ACURA LOCATED AT 8559 BALTIMORE NATIONAL PIKE, ELLICOTT CITY, MD 21043, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SEVERAL WIRING HARNESSES INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RODENT DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000.

STARTING IN NOV 2019 MY ACURA TLX STARTED TO SPONTANEOUSLY DECELERATE AND LOSE ENGINE POWER WHEN IN MOTION. ERROR CODE OF P0087 WAS PROVIDED BY ACURA OF MILFORD, CT AND WAS HIGHLY SUGGESTIVE OF REPLACING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE ENGINE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED IN EARLY DEC 2019 HOWEVER THE CAR CONTINUED WITH LOSS OF POWER, TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE, POOR ACCELERATION AND MULTIPLE WARNINGS ILLUMINATED. ACURA OF MILFORD WAS CONTACTED AND THEY NOTED IT MAY BE THE OTHER FUEL PUMP THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SECOND IN TANK FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED MID DEC 2019 WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO ACURA DEC 31, 2019 AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE FOUND, THEY RESET THE P0087 CODE AND DID A HARD RESET. THE CAR STILL CONTINUED WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS BUT NOW WITH A HUMMING NOISE PRESENT. IN FEB 2020, THE FUEL RAIL AND...

WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT OR TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, OCCASIONALLY THE CAR WILL FAIL TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED. THE ENGINE APPEARS TO GO TO AN IDLE SPEED FOR 1-2 SECONDS AND THEN THE CAR ACCELERATES. THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE LOCAL DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THEY (AND ACURA) ARE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE SENT THEM VIDEO OF THE TACHOMETER DROPPING TO ~900RPM WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THEY STATE THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES OR INFORMATION THAT INDICATES ANYTHING IS WRONG. THIS SEEMS TO MATCH SAFETY PROBLEMS 11121786, 10775339, 10695446, AND 10694812. ANOTHER PROBLEM THE VEHICLE HAS IS A SHUDDER IN THE TRANSMISSION AT CERTAIN SPEEDS. SHIFTING TO A DIFFERENT GEAR MAKES THE SHUDDER GO AWAY. DEALER STATES THIS IS JUST HOW THE TRANSMISSION WORKS. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AROUND 51K MILES. OLD TRANSMISSION DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. DEALER SAID...

THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES TO NEUTRAL AND SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW FROM JOHN EAGLE ACURA AND HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM THE ENTIRE TIME THAT I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND STARTER ON THE CAR LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER PRUCHASE. THE CAR CONTINUES TO SWITCH GEARS ON ITS OWN AND SHUTS OFF! THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. PLEASE BEAWARE THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE!!!

MY CAR HAS ABOUT 74000 MILES, AND ACURA HAS CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION AND TCM ONCE ALREADY. ON OCTOBER 23, 2019 WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 55 MILES/HR (ON HIGHWAY) ALL THE ALERTS AND INDICATORS LIT UP YET AGAIN IN THE DASHBOARD AND THE CAR SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND I COULD NOT SHIFT ANY GEARS WHATSOEVER. WITHIN SECONDS CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THE INDICATORS SAID TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK GEAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, WHICH I DID. AT THIS TIME I WAS IN LEFT LANE WITH BAD WEATHER AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY A FEW CARS. I WAS SCARED AND LITERALLY ANYTHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED.
