NHTSA Complaint #11716156 — 2018 FORD EDGE

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. While the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and DTC: P0303 and P0316 were retrieved. The failure was not acknowledged by the dealer at the time. The contact was informed that the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that a tune-up was performed, and the coolant reservoir was refilled; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. While speaking with the dealer, the dealer confirmed that the initial repair had not resolved the issue. The contact was notified of an unknown TSB regarding the failure. The contact was informed that coolant intrusion was a known failure with similar vehicles. The contact stated that the dealer should have acknowledged the failure when the vehicle was initially taken to the dealer. The contact stated that the failure was due to a poor design by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 53,418.
