NHTSA Complaint #11649530 — 2016 FORD FOCUS

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power; however, the RPM continued to increase, prompting the contact to immediately turn off the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission control module, resulting in damages to the transmission. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 14M02. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 51,000.
