NHTSA Complaint #11626563 — 2017 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during start-up, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The rattling sound occurred while attempting to accelerate and the contact discovered that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil. While driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and vibrating violently, with the check engine warning light blinking on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the cam phasers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under an Extended Coverage for cam phaser failure. The failure mileage was 148,000.
