NHTSA Complaint #11608488 — 2014 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized and then released independently, allowing the contact to regain proper control of the vehicle. The failure occurred while turning the steering wheel towards the right or left; however, the failure was more pronounced while turning left. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had become more persistent. The contact is an independent mechanic, diagnosed that the motor underneath the rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact researched online and linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V316000 (Steering). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a safety complaint. The failure mileage was 70,000.
