Consumer Description

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the "Service 4WD" warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the dealer determined that the transfer case had failed and that metal shavings were found in the transmission. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V302000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
