The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel did not function as intended. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a failed electronic steering gear and failed rack and pinion assembly. The contact was informed that the electronic steering gear and the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was informed of an unknown recall; however, the contact's VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,440.
