NHTSA Complaint #11603877 — 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware of smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated there a large amount of smoke coming from the alternator. Additionally, the vehicle had no electrical power. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed alternator. The contact was informed that the alternator was burned. The contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
