NHTSA Complaint #11594270 — 2016 FORD FOCUS

The contact called on behalf of her daughter who owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the vehicle jerked, and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The contact was informed of an unknown recall however, the VIN was included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 106,122.
