NHTSA Complaint #11585124 — 2010 FORD FUSION

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the "Service Power Steering" warning light flashed on the instrument cluster. The contact stated that the steering wheel felt as if it had seized, and excessive force was needed to turn the steering wheel. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to regain power steering functionality. The contact left the vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times prior to the failure however, after turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle had regained power steering functionality. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
