NHTSA Complaint #11582145 — 2018 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the noise faded away after driving for several minutes. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact diagnosed the failure himself and stated that the rattling noise was coming from the cam phaser. The contact stated that the cam phaser needed to be replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA ID Number: 10209366/ Manufacturer TSB Number: 21N03-S4: (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to obtain more information on the Consumer Satisfaction Program. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
