NHTSA Complaint #11576096 — 2013 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was receiving a smog test, the diagnostic codes revealed a failure with the timing chain and the cam phasers. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed timing chain and failed cam phasers. The contact was informed that the timing chain and the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact was informed about a Customer Satisfaction Program; however, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not eligible to be repaired under the Customer Satisfaction Program. The failure mileage was approximately 67,400.
