Consumer Description
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH and attempting to accelerate uphill, the vehicle lost motive power with difficulty while shifting gears. After a visual inspection, the contact observed excessive amounts of fumes coming from the exhaust. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the engine was extremely low on oil due to excessive oil consumption. Additionally, the turbocharger had failed. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and the diagnostic test result was confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V925000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 103,000.
