Consumer Description
Just last week, the RPMs on my 2013 Nissan Rogue started going crazy, ramping up and down, the car started jerking -- turns out it was a sign of the transmission slipping -- but it returned to "normal" after a few minutes. We continued driving and were on the highway on our way home when all of a sudden, the car went from doing 65 mph to about 15 mph, even though my husband had his foot all the way down on the gas. It was petrifying as we were on a high-speed highway with a speed limit of 65 mph (with many people doing 80 mph), and in addition to our safety, we were concerned about our unborn baby--as I am 3 months pregnant. Thankfully this happened when we weren't terribly far from home and we were able to make it, riding on the shoulder with our hazards on but it was terrifying and definitely dangerous. The car gave no signs of these issues before and it had just passed inspection 2 weeks prior. The car has 92,000 miles; I bought it brand new in 2013; and it has been regularly maintenanced and serviced throughout the years. The check engine light finally came on close to the end of this ordeal (well after the gas pedal stopped responding) and when we brought it to the repair shop they confirmed it was the CVT--which they said is a known defect with many Nissan Rogues. I was frustrated to find out that a class action lawsuit was settled for 2014-2018 Nissan Rogues for CVT and although this a known defect of the 2013 Nissan Rogue as well, the dealership and the company said there's nothing they can do. Now we're looking at a $4,000+ bill to replace the transmission -- and I'm just praying we never have this issue again because this is our primary car for us, our 2-year-old, and by the end of the year, newborn baby. I was never notified before that this could be an issue but a quick internet search really opened my eyes.
