NHTSA Complaint #11450999 — 2011 NISSAN ROGUE

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, she smelled a burning odor. The contact stated that at that time she did not see any smoke in or around her vehicle, so she assumed that it may have been an outside vehicle. The contact stated that after she continued to drive for a few miles, she smelled a burning odor again, however she stated that once she looked out the window towards the passenger's side and noticed grey smoke coming from the engine compartment of her vehicle. The contact stated that she was able to drive approximately a mile, and was able to pull over in a parking lot to exit the vehicle. The contact stated that she then lift the hood of her vehicle and saw 2 wires that were still burning in the engine compartment of the vehicle. The contact stated she then contacted the fire department, who arrived on the scene, and extinguished the fire. The contact stated that she was advised by the fire department that the fire started behind the firewall of the vehicle. The contact stated a fire report was made, and her vehicle was towed to her residence. The contact stated that no injuries were sustained to her, or the passenger in the vehicle at the time. The contact stated that she has not contacted the dealer at the time, however, she contacted the manufacturer in regard to a recall that she found while doing her own research. The contact stated that the same year , make , and model vehicle was recalled and was experiencing the same failure as she was with her vehicle NHTSA 15V032000 (Electrical System) , however, her vehicle was not included in the recall.
