NHTSA Complaint #11430354 — 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic where the oil was drained, and the contact was informed that the connecting rod bearing was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned that when he drove away from the independent mechanic, the engine seized. The contact did not feel safe driving the vehicle. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted however, there was no response. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
