NHTSA Complaint #11424406 — 2007 MERCURY MILAN

The contact's wife owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact initially received a notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact then received a notice that the parts were available. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer for service however, soon after the repair, the contact experienced the failure. The contact stated that extended brake pedal travel was needed upon depression of brake pedal without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where they informed him that they found no fault with the vehicle and could not help. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who test drove the vehicle and agreed that the brake pedal was defective. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where two service mechanic had also test driven the vehicle and both confirmed that there was a defect with the brake pedal however, the contact would have to pay for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and had offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
