Recall 16V610000 — EXTERIOR LIGHTING

| 96 vehicles affected

Defect: Zero Motorcycles Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain model year 2015 SR, S, DS, and FX motorcycles. The affected motorcycles have a DC-DC converter that may have insufficient output power. During high power demand, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) may not function properly.

Consequence: If the converter power output is insufficient, during an ABS activated event, the ABS and all vehicle lights would temporarily stop functioning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Zero has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the DC-DC converters, replacing ones of a specific type as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on September 16, 2016. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for...

Zero FX started smoking and burst into flames last month. I have serious burns on my right thigh requiring multiple skin grafts. I been complaining for months that the batteries were getting hot when charging and that this was the same thing that happened to a former colleague in Seattle. Zero picked up the FX (some dealer or Zero employee) and refuses to return it demanding I take a $10000 settlement and sign a agreement to keep silent. I hear this has happened to others. It is not their vehicle and something is very wrong with this demand and their attempt to silence me.

IN JUNE OF 2017, WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, I NOTICED THE TURN SIGNAL DID NOT WORK. I CHECKED THE HEADLIGHT AND IT WAS OFF ALSO, MEANING ALL THE LIGHTS WERE DEAD. AFTER IT SAT FOR 2 HOURS THE LIGHTS RESUMED FUNCTIONING. A WEEK LATER I NOTICED THEY QUIT AGAIN. THEN I PARKED THE MOTORCYCLE FOR CONCERN OVER MY SAFETY. OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS IT HAS NOT LEFT MY GARAGE EXCEPT FOR A TRIP TO THE DEALER, WHO REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE RANDOMLY TURNED THE KEY ON AS IT HAS REMAINED PARKED. SOMETIMES I HAVE LIGHTS, SOMETIMES I DO NOT. THE MOTORCYCLE HASN'T MOVED, WEATHER IS NOT AN ISSUE. THROUGH MY OWN DIAGNOSIS, WITH ONLINE HELP, I BELIEVE THE ISSUE TO BE THE DC/DC CONVERTER SIGNAL FROM THE MAIN BIKE BOARD. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY PHONE AND EMAIL, AND HAS IGNORED ME, THE LOCAL DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED IN PERSON AND BY PHONE, AND HAS IGNORED ME. I HAVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT IS JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD WITH 3227 MILES ON IT.
