Defect: Gulf States Toyota, Inc. (Gulf States) is recalling certain 2017 4Runner , 86, Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla iM, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius C, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Sienna and Yaris vehicles. The spare tire air pressure was not adjusted to the proper pressure as stated on the Tire Pressure Label.
Consequence: A spare tire that is not inflated to the proper value may not perform as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Gulf States will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the spare tires, adjusting their pressure as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2017. Owners may contact Gulf States customer service at 1-800-444-1074. Toyota's number for this recall...

The contact was driving a company-owned 2017 Toyota Prius C. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, another driver merging onto the highway attempted to cross multiple lanes of traffic, misjudged, and collided with the front passenger-side fender of the contact’s vehicle. As a result, the contact’s vehicle struck the left shoulder barrier, became airborne, and overturned three times before coming to rest in the middle of the roadway. Despite the severity of the crash, the air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility and deemed a total loss by the employer’s insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact was transported by EMTs to a local hospital and treated for multiple nondescript injuries, including a damaged right rotator cuff and body pain. The contact also underwent chest and torso X-rays due to concerns of possible internal bleeding. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT THEN SWERVED TO THE RIGHT AND HIT A CURB AS THE VEHICLE WENT AIR BOURNE. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE AND SOME BRUSHES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FRONT, SIDE, AND REAR AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SCRATCHES AND CUTS TO THE KNEES AND NECK INJURIES AS SHE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT WHERE IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE DEALER WESTBURY TOYOTA (1121 OLD COUNTRY RD, WESTBURY, NY 11590, (516) 272-4499) WAS CONTACTED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WERE A CASE WAS OPENED AND FIELD INVESTIGATORS WERE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE.
