Defect: Royal Enfield North America Limited (Royal Enfield) is recalling certain 2017-2021 Himalayan motorcycles. The salt used to treat the roads in the winter may corrode the brake calipers, causing a decrease or total loss of brake function.

Consequence: A loss of brake function can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the front and rear brake calipers, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Royal Enfield's customer service at 1-866-600-1122. Royal Enfield's number for this recall is SC-31.

THE MOTORCYCLE WENT COMPLETELY DEAD WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. NOT JUST THE ENGINE, BUT EVERYTHING. LIGHTS, GUAGES, TURN SIGNALS. IT WAS AS IF SOMEONE PULLED OUT THE KEY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NORMAL OPERATION. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON A 4 LANE CITY STREET WHILE TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. MANUFACTURER CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS CONDITION, DESPITE IT BEING REPORTED BY OTHER USERS.
