THERE ARE MANY SAFETY CONCERNS ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST CONCERN IS THE SMOKE THAT COMES FROM UNDER THE HOOD BECAUSE OF THE OIL LEAKING ON THE ENGINE WHILE IN MOTION. TO THE POINT I HAVE HAD TO USE A HOSE TO COOL DOWN THE MOTOR. OIL POURED OUT WITH THE WATER. I HAVE HAD THE PRIOR RECALLS DONE AND STILL HAD LEAKING AFTER THE SO CALLED RECALL WAS DONE IN 2010. I WAS TOLD BY CASTLE PONTIAC (NORTH RIVERSIDE, IL) THERE WAS NO FURTHER REPAIRS THEY COULD OFFER. EVEN THOUGH I SHOWED THEM THE OIL CONTINUING TO LEAK AFTER THE SO CALLED RECALL WAS COMPLETED. THE SECOND CONCERN IS THE HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY THAT IS FOGGY LOOKING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE POOR LIGHTING. THE NEXT CONCERN IS THE SUSPENSION THAT IS LITERALLY FALLING APART. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE HEAD GASKET CHANGED ON THIS VEHICLE AND...
WE PURCHASED THIS 2000 GRAND PRIX GT FROM ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL IN JULY 2015. ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE ON 10/20/2015 WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT OUR RESIDENCE. NEIGHBORS ALERTED US (5-10 MINUTES AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM A FIVE MILE DRIVE TO ENJOY A 35 MINUTE MEAL) THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. FLAMES WERE EVIDENT BELOW THE ENGINE. WE WERE ABLE TO CONTROL THE FIRE WITH HELP FROM OUR NEIGHBOR, USING TWO HOME EXTINGUISHERS. THE TROY, OH FIRE DEPT RESPONDED; ENSURED THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY OUT AND CAR WAS SAFE TO LEAVE (CUT WIRES ON BATTERY). DISCOVERED GM RECALL NO. 09047 & GM RECALL NO. 07035 AS WELL AS NHTSA RECALL #07E-21 INDICATING ISSUES WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, IT CAUGHT FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO ISSUES OR WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE, BUT DID NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

I WAS DRIVING ALONG,AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING,THE ENGINE DIED...NATURALLY THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DIDN'T WORK, BUT I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE CURB. I TRIED TO START IT AND IT STARTED JUST FINE, SO I TOOK IT HOME, I WAS NERVOUS AFTER THAT DRIVING IT ! THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,155.
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WENT INTO FLAMES. I HAVE HAD NO PRECIOUS ENGINE ISSUES AND THOUGH IT HAS A LOT OF MILES ON THE CARE IT HAS BEEN KEPT UP WELL. ALL MY FLUIDS WERE AT APPROPRIATE LEVELS. THE FIRE DESTROYED MY CAR. *JS
I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN SUDDENLY I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOOD. SO ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE HOOD TO DISCOVER A SMALL FIRE THAT HAD BEGAN INSIDE THE ENGINE. AFTER FRANTICALLY LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE A LOCAL RESIDENT USED A FIRE HYDRANT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE. HOWEVER THE BATTERY ALTERNATOR AND ALL OTHER PARTS REMAIN INTACT AND FUNCTIONAL. *TR
VEHICLE IS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP 3.8 LITER SUPERCHARGED SEDAN. THERE IS A STRONG BURNING SMELL THAT CAN BE SMELLED BY ANYONE WHO IS EXITING THE VEHICLE OR STANDING NEAR THE VEHICLE WHEN IT IS NOT IN MOTION. THE "LOW OIL LEVEL" LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED ONLY THREE DAYS AFTER THE SMELL WAS DETECTED. OIL LEVEL EXTREMELY LOW AS VALIDATED BY FLUID CHECK. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND A FIRE HAD ERUPTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED LESS THAN 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE THE RECALL REPAIR BECAUSE THEY HAD SENT VARIOUS NOTICES TO THE CONTACT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONLY ONE RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED, THE SAME DAY AS THE...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 70 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS SAFELY COASTED OFF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT THEN OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND WAS DEEMED AS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I HAD THE RECALL DONE ON MY GRAND PRIX IN 2011. FOR THE SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINER, TO ALLEGEDLY PREVENT FROM ENGINE FIRE. 6/9/14 I HAD PULLED INTO A GAS STATION TO FUEL UP. NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ALL OF THE SUDDEN. POPPED THE HOOD. SAW NOTHING BUT FLAME. SHUT THE HOOD, GOT AN EXTINGUISHER RIGHT AWAY FROM THE STORE ATTENDANT. OPENED THE HOOD AND PUT OUT THE FIRE... GAS STATION WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME, A LOT OF PEOPLE PUMPING GAS WILE MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. LUCKILY THE MATTER WAS DEALT WITH IN A TIMELY MATTER. THIS PROBLEM HAS THE POTENTIAL GO MUCH FARTHER THAN JUST SOMEONE'S CAR BEING BURNT. AND HAS ALREADY FOR SOME PEOPLE. MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE OUT OF THE BLUE ON A MAIN STREET IN SAN FRANCISCO. I HAD A 6 MONTHS OLD PREGNANT LADY VISITOR FROM SINGAPORE WITH ME WHEN IT HAPPENED. IT WAS TRAUMATIZING SINCE THE BRAKES SUDDENLY WOULDN'T WORK AS WELL, WHILE THE FIRE BECAME BIGGER. THERE WERE LOTS OF FUMES CLOUDING MY VISION AND IT WAS TERRIFYING SINCE THERE WERE STILL CARS AND PEDESTRIANS ON THE MAIN STREET. FORTUNATELY THE CAR SLOWED TO A STOP FINALLY AND WE COULD GET OUT TO SAFETY. I HAD TO DIAL 911 TO GET SAN FRANCISCO FIREFIGHTERS TO COME PUT OUT THE FIRE. MUCH OF THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS MELTED AND HARNESS' WERE MELTED AND BURNT. WE KNOW THE RECALL FOR THIS CAR FOR FIRES WAS DONE IN 2009, YET IT STILL CAUGHT FIRE. *TR

AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM HOME APPX 40 MINUTES, I PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING GARAGE AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT AT APPX 7:57 AM. I WENT INTO THE BUILDING, UP TO MY FLOOR. AT APPX 8:03, WE WERE TOLD TO MOVE OUR CARS OUT OF THE GARAGE DUE TO A FIRE. WENT BACK TO PARKING GARAGE WHERE I SEE MY CAR BURNING AS WELL AS THE NEARBY CARS. DRIVER'S SIDE, DOORS, DASH, WINDSHIELD, STEERING WHEEL, WHEEL, ENTIRE HOOD AND ENGINE COMPLETELY MELTED/MANGLED/GONE, HOWEVER THE GLOVE BOX ON PASSENGER SIDE STILL WORKED AND CONTENTS WERE MERELY WET AND SOOTY. FOUR OTHER CARS NEAR MY VEHICLE ALSO CAUGHT FIRE AND THERE WAS ALSO DAMAGE TO BUILDING. FIRE REPORT WAS HANDED TO ME AFTER THEY PUT IT OUT WITH TIME STAMP OF 8:10.
