AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A COMMUNICATION FAILURE AND A FUSE MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 00V228000 (SEAT BELTS) AND 15V701000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILED INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO DETERMINE IF THEY WOULD PROVIDE A DEALER TO SERVICE THE TWO RECALL REPAIRS AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN 2013, MY 2000 GRAND PRIX HAD SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET. WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, FLAMES WERE THEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND HAD TO RIP OPEN THE HOOD WITH POWER TOOLS TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. A WEEK PRIOR I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND TWO NEW FRONT TIRES PUT ON. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE LOT.

I WAS DRIVING ALONG,AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING,THE ENGINE DIED...NATURALLY THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DIDN'T WORK, BUT I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE CURB. I TRIED TO START IT AND IT STARTED JUST FINE, SO I TOOK IT HOME, I WAS NERVOUS AFTER THAT DRIVING IT ! 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION KEY PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED EVERY TIME SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD SHUT OFF, AND THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION. *JB
I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN SUDDENLY I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOOD. SO ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE HOOD TO DISCOVER A SMALL FIRE THAT HAD BEGAN INSIDE THE ENGINE. AFTER FRANTICALLY LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE A LOCAL RESIDENT USED A FIRE HYDRANT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE. HOWEVER THE BATTERY ALTERNATOR AND ALL OTHER PARTS REMAIN INTACT AND FUNCTIONAL. *TR
JUST A NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW OUR 2000 PONTIAC GP GTP CAUGHT FIRE WHILE NOT RUNNING ON 06/22/04. I NOTIFIED PONTIAC THAT NIGHT. OUR INSURANCE HIRED A FIRE INVESTIGATOR. HE WAS MET AT OUR HOUSE BY A GM REPRESENTATIVE THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR ADVISED US THERE HAD BEEN ANOTHER HE WAS SENT TO A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE OURS. GM FINALLY RECALLED THE CAR 2 YEARS LATER IN 2006, SO I KNOW THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS ONE AS WELL. THE INFORMED US TO REBUILD OUR HOME AND THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT INSURANCE DID NOT TAKE CARE OF, WHICH AMOUNTED TO 133,000. THEY DRUG IT OUT FOR 5 YEARS, PAID OUR INSURANCE CO BACK, AND LEFT US SITTING WITH A HOUSE PAYMENT 3 TIMES THE AMOUNT IT HAD BEEN. THIS COMPANY HAS NO RESPECT FOR THE CONSUMER! *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND LATER RE-ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE ALARM WOULD MALFUNCTION ACTING AS IF SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO STEAL THE VEHICLE. THE ALARM WOULD SOUND AND THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY LOCK HER IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. IN ADDITION, THE TAIL LIGHTS AND THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD ALSO FAIL SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 188,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 192,000.

ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE KEY BECAME LODGED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH PREVENTING HIM FROM TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX THAT I'VE LOVED AND HAD FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 6 YEARS. AND 10-15 MINUTES AFTER PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY 3 FEET AWAY, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND HISS OUTSIDE TO FIND SMOKE & FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE HOOD! I HAD TO CALL 911 TO PUT OUT FIRE AND WAS SCARED TO DEATH MY JUST FILLED GAS TANK WOULD IGNITE AND BLOW UP THE CAR AND OUR HOUSE RIGHT NEXT TO IT! I ONLY HAVE LIABILITY SO INSURANCE CAN'T DO A THING. IT WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL AND I'M INVESTIGATING HOW AND WHY THIS HAPPENED. I WAS LUCKY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AS I WAS JUST DRIVING IT. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS BURNT UP. OK,I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR SINCE 9/16/10. THE FIRST THING THAT STARTED HAPPENING WAS THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM. THE CAR WOULD CUT OFF WHILE I WAS RIDING (NO MATTER WHERE I WAS) SO I INVESTED SOME MONEY INTO GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED, SO AT LEST I THOUGHT I DID. NOW MY ENGINE STOPPED ALL OF SUDDEN(11/15/11). TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, THE SECURITY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED FOR TEN MINUTES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, ALL OF THE POWER WINDOWS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE WINDOW MOTOR AND POWER WINDOW SWITCH. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING REGARDING THE SECURITY WARNING INDICATOR. THE COMPUTER CODE DETECTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING PROPERLY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 204,000.
THE FACTORY PASSKEY 3 SECURITY SYSTEM HAS NUMEROUS TIMES FAILED AND GAVE ME NUISANCE ALARMS. NOW IT IS TO THE POINT THAT MY OWN CAR THINKS I AM STEALING IT AND WILL NOT DRIVE. IT WILL TURN OVER AND THEN SHUT OFF IN 3 SECONDS, I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS FOR THE 3 DAYS I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE FIX I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A GM DEALER AND THEN PAY GM TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEY CREATED WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE FAULTY SECURITY SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND STOPPED TO LET MY SON OUT TO VISIT HIS FRIEND. WHEN HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I GOT AROUND THE CORNER TO MY HOUSE AND MY CAR BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND I COASTED INTO THE DRIVEWAY. AT THAT POINT THERE WAS SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD AND MY HUSBAND OPENED IT. THERE WERE FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD AND MY HUSBAND PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A HOSE. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND IGNITION WIRES, SO FAR. I AM NOT SURE WHAT ELSE IS DAMAGED AT THIS POINT. HUSBAND MOVED THE 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP W/ SUPER CHARGER. CLOSER TO WORK SITE & PARKED THE CAR, SAT & ATE LUNCH IN CAR. THE CABIN OF THE CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE. HUSBAND COULDN'T GET DOORS OPEN, BUT GOT THE WINDOWS TO COME DOWN. HAD TO CRAWL OUT OF THE WINDOWS AND REALIZED CAR WAS ON FIRE. WITHIN 10-15 MINUTES THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY IN FLAMES. THE FIREMEN HAD TO PRY THE SIDES OF THE HOOD UP TO GET THE FIRE OUT. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 121000. *AK

ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, SOME ONE CAME INTO THE OFFICE I WAS AT AND ASKED IF ANYONE IN HERE HAS A BLACK GRAND PRIX. I WENT OUT AND FOUND THAT BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE WAS COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE PASSENGERS' SIDE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD ALREADY BEEN CALLED. CAR THEN TRIED TO START ITSELF. FROM THE FRONT SEAT FORWARD, CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *JB
I WAS STOPPED BY A COP BECAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK. I REPLACED THE BULBS THINKING THAT'S WHAT IT WAS, BUT THEY STILL DIDN'T WORK. IT TURNS OUT THAT MY CENTER WINDOW BRAKE LIGHT WORKS BUT NOT MY BRAKE LIGHTS. APART FROM THAT MY HAZARD LIGHT IS STUCK. I TRIED PUSHING IT WHEN I HAD TO PULL OVER BUT IT DIDN'T WANT TO GO DOWN OR ANYTHING. *NM
ELECTRICAL FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT DUE TO UNKNOWN REASONING. TOTAL LOSS ON CAR. MY WIFE DROVE 20 MINUTES, PARKED AND WENT TO A STORE. FIVE MINUTES LATER, OUR BABYSITTER CAME IN WITH OUR CHILD AND TOLD MY WIFE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE.
I ARRIVED HOME FROM WORK AT 3:30 P.M. I WENT BACK OUT TO MY CAR ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER TO RUN SOME ERRANDS AND MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. EVERYTHING IS ROASTED FROM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD FORWARD THROUGH THE ENGINE. I HAD TO CALL THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEY PUT OUT THE FIRE FOR ME AND TOOK ALL MY INFORMATION. I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO 2000 GRAND PRIX GTP'S. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE NOTICED A GREAT NUMBER OF INCIDENTS THAT HAVE THE SAME CONDITIONS AS MINE. AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFAULT OUT THERE AND GM SHOULD HAVE AN ANSWER FOR THIS ISSUE. *JB

I DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START. I PURCHASED A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX IN MAY 2000. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS AND HAVE SEEMED TO GET NOWHERE. FIRST, ABOUT SIX MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE MY TRANSMISSION DECIDED TO GO OUT SO THE DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO REPLACE IT. (THIS SHOULD AHVE BEEN MY FIRST INDICATION TO TAKE THE CAR BACK) SECOND, A FEW MONTHS AFTER THIS I STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY HEADS UP DISPLAY. I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 3 TO 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS BEFORE THEY DECIDED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. FINALLY, THEY DID REPLACE ONE OF THE PARTS. THIS STILL DID NOT WORK. I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AND THEY DECIDED TO REPLACE THE PROJECTOR. MY HEADS UP DISPLAY IS STILL NOT WORKING. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT PONTIAC NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THIS BOTH...
I HAVE A PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT, MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CONTINOUSLY COMES ON. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PUT THE CAR ON THE COMPUTER AND SAID THAT THE WIRES TO THE HARNESS WERE BROKEN. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE WIRES TO THE HARNESS COULD BE BROKEN BECAUSE IN ORDER TO GET TO THE WIRES YOU MUST TAKE OFF THREE PARTS.THEY ALSO TOLD ME I HAD A LEAK IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AT THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. THE MECHANIC CHANGED THE GASKET AND CHARGED ME $270 PLUS $50 FOR PARTS AND PAYED $360 FOR THE LABOR FOR THE WIRES OF THE HARNESS. THE LIGHT TURNED OFF, THEN THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT REAPPEARED.
