The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered. The check engine warning light was illuminated along with other several unknown warning lights. Additionally, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Car stalled out and won't restart.
While driving on US 95 in DC, MD and NJ, when the traffic became stop and go, my SUV could not get into 1st gear to go. The engine revved, the car shook and made noises. Several times I came close to being rear-ended. This problem also occurs when starting after a red light, when accelerating on a highway (usually 3rd or 4th gear), and when turning left on a green arrow. Not only has it caused many close calls with being rear-ended, but it has also incited road rage in people who are driving behind me. Now I'm told I need a new transmission and also a new coolant system which leaks due to a fault in the system known by Nissan, and pollutes the transmission. This is a terrible safety threat and Nissan should own up to it and pay for the repairs.
IN THE LAST 4 YEARS I'VE REPLACED EMISSIONS SYSTEM BRAKES ROTORS AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM EXHAUST SYSTEM RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. CAR WAS VIBRATING SHAKING CUTTING OUT LEAKING EXHAUST FUMES AND EMISSIONS SYSTEM FAILED.

VEHICLE CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO FROM TIME TO TIME, WILL HESITATE OR REFUSE TO CRANK/START. NOTICED A RECALL IN 2010 FOR ECM, WHICH IS DOCUMENTED TO HAVE BEEN REPAIRED IN 2014. HOWEVER THESE EXACT SAME ISSUES ARE TAKING PLACE WITH THE VEHICLE NOW IN 2020, DOES THIS MEAN THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED WITH YET ANOTHER FAULTY ECM. THIS VEHICLE PLACES MY FAMILY IN DANGER WHILE DRIVING.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKE LINES. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID LEAK DAMAGED THE BATTERY. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED BRAKE LINE AND REPLACED THE BATTERY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE SECOND FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO ANDERSON NISSAN (3842 AZ-95, LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ 86404) WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION WITH THE BATTERY RELAY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND RETURNED TO THE CONTACT HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED THE NEXT DAY. THE CONTACT HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED ONCE AGAIN HOWEVER, THE BATTERY FAILED FOR THE THIRD...

THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING. SAFETY RISK: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY.
THE ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE BEGAN AT 133834 MILES. WHEN DRIVING, AT TIMES IT WOULD VIBRATE OUT OF NOWHERE. AFTER A STOP, IT WOULD SHIFT UP HARD OR FAIL TO DOWNSHIFT AND THEN HIT HARD WHEN IT FINALLY WOULD GO IN TO GEAR. ONCE I TOOK IT IN TO A MECHANIC, THE FOLLOWING CODES CAME UP: P1731 - 1ST GEAR LOGIC ERROR, P0430- CAT EFFICIENCY BANK 2, P0455- EVAP SYSTEM LEAK LARGE. THE RECOMMENDATION WAS "TEAR DOWN". IN THE END, I HAD TO REPLACE MY: TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, TORQUE CONVERTER, VALVE BODY, VALVE BODY SOLENOIDS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER BANK 2, EXHAUST GASKETS, OIL PRESSURE SENSOR, AND OXYGEN SENSOR. WITH A TOTAL COST OF $4,824.65. I WILL UPLOAD THE SERVICES MY NISSAN PATHFINDER HAD TO HAVE.
I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY CAR EXCEEDING AS I WOULD PUSH THE GAS PETAL. THIS STARTED HAPPENING AROUND 140,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT IT MAY BE THE RADIATOR. I PURCHASED A NEW RADIATOR AND AS HE PUT IT IN HE SAID IT LOOKED AS IF THE FLUIDS WERE MIXED. I PUT ALL NEW FLUIDS IN THE CAR. STILL I COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO EXCEED PAST 30 MPH. I PARKED THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE COST IN REPAIR. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION THAT WAS GONE IN THE CAR.
MY ENGINE STOPS WHILE IN MOTION. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT A SPEED OF 60 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK JUST LOOSES POWER, THE DASHBOARD TURNED OFF AND SPEED STARTED TO LOWER I PUSHED ON THE GAS AND IT WOULDN'T RESPOND. I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SHOULDER, MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS WOULDN'T EVEN TURN ON. AS I WAS CALLING MY HUSBAND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT TURNED ON ON IT'S ON. IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. THERE WAS A RECALL THEY FIX BACK ON 2011 DEALING WITH THE ECM RELAY. I CALLED VIVA NISSAN ON ZARAGOZA LOCATED IN EL PASO, TX AND THE GIRL WOULDN'T HELP SHE TOLD ME TO CALL 1800NISSAN1.
TAKATA RECALL IM WRITTING THIS COMPLAINT IN REGARDS TO MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SE. ON 10/2/2017 MY VEHICLE GAVE ME SOME ISSUES OF NOT WANTING TO TURN ON. AFTER TALKING TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND ALL GIVING ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS AND ADVISING ME TO TAKE IT TO TOWN NORTH NISSAN IN AUSTIN TEXAS. THE SERVICE AGENT ([XXX]) ALSO GAVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS (THE MODULE IPDM) NEEDED TO GET CHANGED. THEY GAVE ME A PRICE ON THE COST AND TOLD ME THE DATE MY TRUCK WOULD BE READY FOR PICK UP. MY TRUCK WAS IN THEIR SHOP SINCE 10/25/2017 AND THEY TOLD MY MY CAR WOULD BE READY 10/31/2017 AFTER 12:30 PM. SO I CALLED TO GET AN UPDATE SO I COULD PICK UP MY TRUCK. ON 2-4-2017 MY TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM BEGAN MAKING A LOUD RADDLING NOISE
THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A HIGH-PITCHED NOISE DURING ACCELERATION @ APPRX. 2000 RPMS. ADDITIONALLY, I HAD RECENTLY NOTICED SLUGGISH AND UNEVEN ACCELERATION. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INNER TIMING CHAIN AND TENSION GUIDE/SHOE, A WORN DRIVE BELT AND DRIVE BELT TENSIONER, AND A STUCK FAN BELT CLUTCH. IN ADDITION, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS ALSO POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO THE INNER TIMING COVER. NISSAN IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSION GUIDE/SHOE. THE DEFECT COULD CAUSE THE TIMING CHAINS TO SLIP - WHICH WOULD LEAD TO IMMEDIATE ENGINE DAMAGE - AND CREATE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, THE FAULTY PART COULD CAUSE OTHER ENGINE ISSUES (LIKE THE ONES REPORTED).
RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION RENDERING USELESS. CORRODED AND DESTROYED WHOLE INTERIOR OF TRANSMISSION .
I WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, I FIND OUT IT IS THE "INTERMIX" BETWEEN THE RADIATOR AND THE TRANSMISSION. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS FROM NISSAN, BUT NOW UNDERSTAND IT WAS A KNOWN AND FREQUENT FAILURE - BY DESIGN. ESSENTIALLY, AFTER 90,000 MILE, THE CAR IS WORTHLESS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AFTER PAYING $5,000 FOR THE REPAIR, I DROVE OFF THE LOT ONLY TO HAVE MY FUEL PUMP FAIL. LITERALLY, I DROVE OFF THE LOT AND THE ENGINE BEGAN MISFIRING. UNBELIEVABLE. *TR

I TOOK MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER INTO THE SHOP BECAUSE IT WAS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I LATER LEARNED THE BAD NEWS THAT THE HOSES IN THE RADIATOR HAVE FAILED CAUSING COOLANT TO CROSS CONTAMINATE AND MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID PRODUCING A TOXIC SLUDGE THAT RUINS THE RADIATOR AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOLD THAT $4,000 LATER I WOULD NEED A NEW RADIATOR, NEW TRANSMISSION AND NEW HOSES. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON IN 05-06 PATHFINDERS. AFTER GOING HOME A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED THAT TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CARS HAVE ACTUALLY DEALTH WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A LAWSUIT BROUGHT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THESE PROBLEMS. UNFORTUNATELY I NEVER KNEW OF SUCH A LAWSUIT AND NOW THAT I HAVE THE VERY PROBLEM IT'S TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THAT TYPE OF SERVICE BY COMPANIES FOR...
I NEEDED TO CHANGE ALL SENSORS BECAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE DVD AND SLIP LIGHT STAYED ON.NOW IT WILL NOT START ALL THE TIME AND IF IT DOES IT WILL DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC.IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER.
AT 96635 MILES MY OIL LIGHT WAS COMING ON WHEN THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. NISSAN TOLD ME MY CAR NEEDS TO HAVE ITS TIMING CHAIN REPLACED WHICH BTW SUPPOSED TO LAST LIFE OF ENGINE. I'VE READ NISSAN KNEW ABOUT DEFECTIVE PARTS AND WAS NOT HONORABLE IN DOING A RECALL. CONTAMINATION OF TRANSMISSION FLUID ON 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER. COLOR OF COOLANT IS PURPLE AND CLOUDY IN OVERFLOW AND RADIATOR. TRANSMISSION HAS STARTED SHUTTERING BETWEEN 35 - 45 MPH. SYMPTOMS BEGAN AT 130K MILES.
I PURCHASED A USED 2005 WITH APPRX 134,000 MILES. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE THE FOLLOWING MONDAY FOR A CRACKED RADIATOR. THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO HAVE SHIFTING ISSUES. 3 WEEKS LATER IT WAS GIVEN A DIAGNOSIS FROM A CERTIFIED NISSAN SERVICE SHOP AS "NEEDING TRANSMISSION REPLACES AS A RESULT OF COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FROM CRACK RADIATOR" I WAS ESTIMATED OVER $7000 WORTH OF REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THE RADIATOR CRACKING AND LEAKING COOLANT.
I TAKE MY CAR IN TO NISSIAN REGULARLY AND TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT AND DOESN'T HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IN FOR HOW LONG I HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. JUST HAD IT SERVICED IN FEBUARY, ALL WAS PERFECT. IT STARTED MAKING A AWFUL WHEN I G NOISE WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL, TURNS OUT THE TIMING CHAIN IS OUT AND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR SOME NISSIAN CARS FOR THIS NOT ALL. I CALLED NISSIAN CORP AND THEY SAID SINCE I HAVE NO WARRANTY THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HELP, EVEN THOUGH YOU GUYS HAVE ISSUED A SAFETY WARNING (NDTB07-042). THERE ALSO IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSIAN FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL NISSIAN. CARS/TRUCKS.
ECM REPLACED UNDER RECALL. RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION REPLACED @ 96K MILES UNDER "EXTENDED WARRANTY." TRANSMISSION REPLACED 2ND TIME 1 YEAR LATER. TRANSMISSION HOSES REPLACED TWICE (DURING SAME TIME PERIOD). NOW - 103K MILES - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON: VIAS SOLENOID VALVE, BANK 2 CATALYTIC CONVERTER, & OIL PRESSURE SENSOR SWITCH ALL NEED REPLACED (POSSIBLY RELATED TO ECM RELAY ISSUE)
OIL PRESSURE DROPPED WHILE DRIVING DUE TO TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS AND GUIDE FAILURE. IF COMPLETE FAILURE HAD ACCURED, MOTOR COULD HAVE BLOWN OR LOCKED UP CAUSING ACCIDENT.
RADIATOR CRACKED AND CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. I HAD TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE RADIATOR AND FLUSH/REFILL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID.
ON 12/11/2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 6:00 PM, I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET WHEN MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE SHUT OFF AS I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR. THE BRAKES LOCKED AND I HAD TO FORCE THE GEAR STICK INTO PARK IN THE FAR LEFT TURNING LANE AND NEARLY RAN THROUGH A RED LIGHT. I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE STALLED FOR ABOUT 40 SECONDS BEFORE RE-STARTING. AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE STARTED, THE "VDC OFF" AND "SLIP" LIGHTS CAME ON. THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE STILL ONE AND THE ENGINE HAS BEEN SKIPPING. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE HAS JUST SHUT OFF. THE OTHER TWO SHUTOFFS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAYS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR.
THE RADIATOR COOLING SYSTEM LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED IT TO STOP WORKING SO I NEED TO REPLACE IT AT A COST OF $5400 FOR TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR IS $1000. COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED AND CAUSED THE CAR TO SHAKE AND NOT ACCELERATE. THIS WAS A RECALL ITEM AND BY THE TIME IT HAPPENED AT 79K MILES THE DEALER WOULD ONLY COVER HALF. I HAD TO PAY $2500 FOR A REPAIR THAT THEY NEW WAS DEFECTED. I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED AND I HAD TO PUT FLASHERS ON TO KEEP CARS FROM HITTING ME. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE WHO STILL OWNS THIS TRUCK. I NOW HAVE ANOTHER $750 BILL TO REPAIR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT THAT WENT OUT AFTER RECALL MILEAGE EXPIRED. WE HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK IN FOR THE 3RD WINTER SEASON AND NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT COST $725 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. AFTER RECEIVING A COMPLIMENTARY MULTI-POINT INSPECTION FROM THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT ON THE WAY HOME THAT THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO NOT WANT TO SHIFT PROPERLY. WENT TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FOUND THAT THE DIPSTICK IS LOCKED INTO PLACE. DID SOME QUICK RESEARCH TO FIND OUT HOW TO CHECK FLUID LEVEL AND THEN FOUND OUT ABOUT ISSUE WITH NISSAN PATHFINDERS RADIATORS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE TRANSMISSION COOLING SYSTEM. CHECKED RADIATOR AND FOUND FROTHING FOAM ON THE INSIDE OF THE PRESSURE CAP INDICATING THAT THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM WHY THE SECTION OF THE INSPECTION FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM WERE CHECKED AS "OK". DID NOT RECEIVE AN ANSWER. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD ALL SORTS OF ISSUES STARTING WITH THE BRAKES WHEN ONE BRAKE SHOE TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED AND EVIDENTLY RUPTURED BRAKE LINES AT AROUND 61,000 MILES. NEW BRAKE REPLACEMENT ALMOST $900. SINCE THAT TIME (THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 75000 MILES) THE TRANSMISSION HAS CONTINUALLY SLIPPED, THE GAS GAUGES AND ALL OTHER GAUGES WORK INTERMITTENTLY, AND THE EMISSIONS TEST LAST MONTH SHOWED POSSIBLE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES (THERE ARE EVIDENTLY TWO). WHEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED I GET RID OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOTORIOUS FOR CROSS CONTAMINATION OF COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. CONTINUING TO DRIVE IT WOULD EVENTUALLY DESTROY THE TRANSMISSION, AND EVEN NOW MAY HAVE PERMANENT DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A WHINING NOISE UNDER THROTTLE BUT WAS NOT INITIALLY IDENTIFIED AS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM. IT WAS ASSUMED TO BE A BELT OR BELT PULLEY. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AFTER THE NOISE STARTED, THE TIMING CHAIN DEVELOPED A PROBLEM AND LOUD RATTLING NOISES COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE SOUND WAS A SLOPPY RATTLE CONSISTENT WITH A TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER OR GUIDE BROKEN.
I HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHERS. COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING HARD SHIFTS, AND SHUTTERING WHILE ACCELERATING.
A CAR RAN INTO OUR LANE MADE A SUDDEN STOP IN FRONT OF ME, TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR I TURNED TO THE RIGHT AND HIT A BRICK BUILDING. MY AIR BAG DEPLOY ON THE DRIVER SIDE BUT NOT THE PASSENGER SIDE.
