These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Defect: Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 1997-2005 Dutch Star and Mountain Aire, 1998-1999 London Aire, 2004 Essex and 1997-1998 Kountry Aire motorhomes. The affected vehicles have a steering gear mounting bracket that may crack, causing a loss of steering ability.
Consequence: A loss of steering increases the risk of a crash.

Defect: CERTAIN MOTOR HOME CHASSIS BUILT ON FREIGHTLINER VCL OR XC CHASSIS AND EQUIPPED WITH ZF MODEL 8018 STEERING GEARS, THESE GEARS MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH THE INCORRECT RECIRCULATING BALL SPACER. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY ALLOW THE RECIRCULATING BALLS TO ESCAPE FROM THE RECIRCULATING BALL CIRCUIT RESULTING IN A LOSS OF STEERING.
Consequence: THE OPERATOR MAY NOTICE HIGHER REQUIRED STEERING WHEEL INPUTS, OR THE NEED FOR MORE STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENTS WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE IN COMBINATION WITH METALLIC CRACKING NOISES PRIOR TO A LOSS OF STEERING. LOSS OF STEERING COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

IN THE SPRING OF 2016, WE HAD TAKEN A TRIP FROM HOME TO LAKE WRIGHT-PATMAN ABOUT 80 MILES AWAY. UPON ARRIVING AT OUR CAMPING SPACE, WE NOTICED THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELDS WERE BULGING OUT FROM THE ROOF. WE COVERED THE ROOF AND TOP OF THE WINDSHIELDS WITH A TARP TO PREVENT RAIN FROM COMING INTO THE BUS. WE CONTACTED NEWMAR'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT VIA EMAIL AND TELEPHONE TO DETERMINE WHAT COULD BE DONE TO REPAIR THE WINDSHIELDS. WE CONTACTED PACE GLASS IN TEXARKANA, TX TO MAKE THE REPAIRS USING SCHEMATICS PROVIDED TO US BY NEWMAR. IN REMOVING THE WINDSHIELDS TO REPAIR THE RUBBER GASKET AT THE ROOF, ONE WINDSHIELD WAS BROKEN. BOTH THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD AND RUBBER GASKET WERE PURCHASED FROM NEWMAR. WE DROVE HOME WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. ON APRIL 15, 2017 WE MADE THE SAME TRIP TO LAKE WRIGHT-PATMAN AND RETURNED ON APRIL 30, 2017. WE STOPPED IN NORTH SHREVEPORT ON THE WAY HOME TO GET SOME DINNER AND DISCOVERED THE WINDSHIELDS WERE BOTH BULGING OUT AGAIN AS BEFORE. THE BUS HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT 200 MILES SINCE THE WINDSHIELDS HAD BEEN REPLACED AND REPAIRED. THE BUS IS STORED IN A GARAGE OUT OF THE WEATHER WHEN NOT IN USE. SERIOUS DAMAGE AND INJURY TO US OR OTHERS MAY HAVE RESULTED IF THE WINDSHIELDS HAD FALLEN ALL OF THE WAY OUT WHIR THE BUS WAS IN MOTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NEWMAR MOUNTAIN AIRE ON A W22 WORKHORSE CHASSIS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE SHORTER STOPPING DISTANCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE BRAKES AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS UNDER THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC RECALL ( 09V217000). AFTER THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSE. THE DEALER INFORM THE CONTACT THE ABS SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSORS BUT WAS UNAWARE THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT APART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS SENSOR SHOULD BE APART OF THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC RECALL SINCE THE ABS SENSOR IS APART OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,242.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NEWMAR MOUNTAIN AIRE RV. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE TECHNICIAN OBSERVED DURING THE INSPECTION THAT ALL FOUR ROTORS EXHIBITED CRACKS. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SMOKE WHICH REMAINED STATIONARY SO THAT IT COULD COOL DOWN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SIX MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND RECOMMENDED THAT FORCE BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES WITH A SCREWDRIVER. ADDITIONALLY, PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DEFECTIVE ROTORS WERE SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON A SECOND OCCASION. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE, AND THE EXCESSIVELY HEATED FRONT BRAKES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER REIMBURSED THE CONTACT FOR THE SECOND REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
