Started with oil light flashing, then the other lights came on. Started losing speed, then lost all power to the engine, will not start back up with the engine, when trying to start it, the engine started smoking.
The vehicle’s headlights have been extremely dimmed for years and my wife has just “dealt with it”. We’ve had all the bulbs replaced and the issue persisted. Given recent medical conditions paired with this technical oversight, this could lead to severe injury or death if not resolved. Let me also add that the headlights no longer turn on as of this morning and Kia refuses to acknowledge or claim responsibility for this because “the issue stems from identical vehicles manufactured in South Korea and not Georgia” … even though the symptoms very identically line up to TSB Number: WTY014.
I was driving on the highway, and knocking noise came out form the engine. The engine began to lose power, and I had to immediately to pull over the car. This car has a theta II engine, and had gone bad due excessive connecting rod bearing damage. I brought the car to a dealership, and confirmed this is the case. The engine only has 77k on it, and will need replacement. These engines are not safe, and should be replaced by dealerships.
The issue is with the front turn signal harness. After, changing the right side turn signal bulb twice I brought my Kia to West Hills Kia in Bremerton, WA…The technician informed me that the front turn signal harness was not the correct harness for this type of vehicle. The service person at West Hills suggested that I contact Kia Corporation. I had emailed Vice President Mr. Shamit Choksey, Kia corporation for the above issue.
Unknown, car was fine then stopped out of no where yesterday, I was scheduled with Kia dealership to have recalled fixed next month but they called and canceled my recall this is now the 2nd attempt and they still have yet to fix recall and now car isn’t working properly!
When the fuel smell occurred i contacted my dealer and was told about a recall i have been complaining about the smell before i received my second recall paper the car was smoking and stopped working eventually and i've been without a car and unable to use my vehicle while having to maintain payments on it im am not sure why i have to pay for a problem that was spotted early on but due to neglect and unclear solutions i have wasted money on rentals and been left with no answers my check engine light was flashing i was unable to get a inspection sticker and was told it was due to the gas smell
I started driving and the car just stopped working in the middle of the street. Many lights on the engine came on. I had to push the car into a street and it could've been so dangerous if I was on the busy road instead of a side street. We had the car towed and taken to a mechanic. We got the call and it turns out certain wires started leaking and it could've started an engine fire. No lights were on before until immediately it stopped working.
I purchased my vechile Dec 28 2021, after driving it exactly one month, as I was driving on the high way my vechile shut off it was the scariest thing that has happened to me the car couldn't brake turn on nor accelerate I had to pull over on the break from being in the middle lane i had to be cautious due to vechile passing fast. Once the car stopped. Had to pay for towing due a state police showing up regardless if I had it on my insurance. I lost my good paying job due to this due to working 45 min away. I had my recall appointment for March 10th already scheduled before hand and my car was parked for a Lil over a month then towed to the dealer. Was driving on a busy street. Went to accelerate, car wasn’t getting gas. Brakes seized and steering wheel seized. Had to drift off the road since the whole car died.
Kia has replaced the Hybrid battery, which said that would fix the warning light "Hybrid System Failure - Do Not Drive" and the light came on again. This is the second battery that I have replaced. The safety issue caused the car to lose power in the middle of an intersection on the way and barely had enough power to park the car safely.
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 40 - 45 mph, the "Safely Stop And Do Not Drive" warning message was displayed and the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, a burning odor was detected. This was the third recurring failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with electrical system failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
"Hybrid System Warning Safely stop and Do not Drive" has appeared multiple times. First time, brake fluid was flushed and car appeared to operate normally afterwards. 3 months later, now, happened twice within two weeks. Apparently, a very common issue. The car shuts down and I am forced to coast/pullover/stop without any power from the engine and was fortunate this did not occur in an intersection. Others have noted the occurrence on the freeway. Like other, when I took the car in, no error codes were seen as the warning light had turned off so the mechanics do not know what the issue is. How does Kia not know what the issue is when the car could shut down, become inoperable suddenly? Once the warning light comes on, the brakes semi-lock and one is luck enough to get to safety, to pull over... Does someone have to be injured or...
The contact owns a 2013 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shut off without warning. The contact would be able to restart the vehicle soon after the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the fuel injectors. Upon driving the vehicle home at 50 MPH, the contact's wife stated that the vehicle shut off again without warning. Despite the failure, his wife was able to restart the vehicle and drive home without incident. The next day, the contact called the dealer to notify them of the failure and they informed him that it may take some time to repair the vehicle due to the cleaning of the fuel injectors. The motor failed while I was driving. I was at a stop sign and was turning the corner and my car shut off. I tried to start the car and smoke was coming from the engine. I had to have my car towed home. No warning lamps came up prior to the engine shutting down.
My oil light has been coming on and blinking then disappearing. Current on oil change and oil level is full on dipstick. Noticed little oil stain on driveway but oil level remains good and full. A couple times now my car has lost acceleration. One time on the highway and once in my neighborhood. When I press the gas it does not accelerate. It will lose speed and after a few times of stepping on the gas will eventually get to speed.
THE HYBRID VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A 3-LANE STATE HIGHWAY AND CAME TO REST IN THE MIDDLE LANE BEHIND 4 VEHICLES WHEN THE DTC P1B25/P1B77 ' 125 AMP HV FUSE WAS BLOWN. THIS CAUSED A SAFETY HAZARD TO MANY ONCOMING VEHICLES AND THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP. OTHER REPORTS FOUND ONLINE SEEM CONSISTENT WITH PS515 (REV 2, 02/28/2019) AND HAVE REPORTED TO STOP AND BECOME UNRESPONSIVE WHILE DRIVING.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY GOING 70MPH WHEN MY ENGINE LOSES POWER AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD TURN ON. WHEN I START THE CAR THE REAR BREAK LIGHTS FLICKER RAPIDLY WHEN I PRESS THE BREAKS THE 3RD BREAK LIGHT WON'T LIGHT UP AT ALL, SO THE ONLY TWO BREAK LIGHT STOP WORKING, IT CAUSES THE ANTI TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT AND THE AUTO-HOLD WARNING LIGHTS TO COME ON.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS EXTREMELY LOW COMPLETELY UNUSABLE AT NIGHT TRIED REPLACING HEADLIGHT BULB SAME ISSUE.
PAINT (PEARL WHITE) BEGAN PEELING OFF IN JUNE 2019 ON THE FRONT T AND BACK OF THE ROOF TRIM. ON MARCH 12, 2021 THE PAINT HAS NOW STARTED PEELING FROM THE PASSENGER LEFT SIDE DOOR. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAS MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS- THE POWER WINDOWS ( ALL BUT THE DRIVER'S WINDOW) QUIT OPERATING ON JANUARY 27, 2021. THE VEHICLE IS A 2013 WITH ONLY 43K MILES ON IT. UNACCEPTABLE
MULTIPLE RECALLS ON CAR - BEEN HAVING SIGNIFICANT ISSUES FROM ELECTRICAL TO BREAKS.
STEELING WHEEL AND COLUMN IS VERY LOOSE. WHENEVER YOU HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD THE STEELING WHEEL LOOSES CONTROL. IT MAKES A LOUD RATTLING NOISE. ALSO, THE RADIO SYSTEM STOP WORKING. I WOULD TURN MY CAR OFF AND THE STEREO SYSTEM WOULD CONTINUE TO PLAY AND WOULD NOT CUT OFF EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS TURN OFF. EVEN WITH THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE ONLY WAY YOU COULD GET IT TO TURN OFF WAS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. TOOK CAR TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THAT THEIR RECALL SYSTEM HAS A NATIONWIDE SHUT DOWN AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE ABLE TO REPAIR IT.

STARTING MAKING A NOISE IN SHUT OFF
2013 KIA OPTIMA IN AUGUST 2019 STARTING STALLING OUT AND WOULDN'T START. THEN MY ENGINE STARTING KNOCKING. MY CAR WOULD STILL START BUT WOULD ONLY GO 20-30 MPH WHILE MAKE KNOCKING ENGINE NOISES. TOOK MY KIA OPTIMA TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE DUE TO RECALL. BUT DIDN'T REPLACE THE STARTER, AFTER I GOT MY CAR BACK MY STARTER WENT OUT COMPLETELY! MY CAR WON'T START. DEC 2020 TOOK MY KIA TO KIA DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY STARTER. I HAVE TO PAY $800 FOR STARTER REPLACEMENT. I TOLD THEM I HAD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE ENGINE RECALL. FOUND OUT KIA REPLACED 5 OUT 7 STARTERS WHEN THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE DUE TO RECALL. BUT THEY WON'T REPLACE MY STARTER BECAUSE IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR FROM THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. I TOLD THEM MY CARS BEEN PARKED THE ENTIRE YEAR 2020 DUE TO COVID AND...
DRIVING THE CAR AFTER MULTIPLE CHANGES AND RECHARGING OF ALTERNATOR AFTER ENGINE RECALL. OVER THE COURSE OF 3 MONTHS, THE CAR HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TWICE AFTER DISPLAYING ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND THEN SHUTTING DOWN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME, I AM GETTING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THIS CAR SERVICED.
I LEFT WORK ONE NIGHT AND STARTED FINE AND WAS DRIVING NORMAL FOR ABOUT 10-15 MILES THEN EVERY SINGLE LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD THEN COULDN'T ACCELERATE ANYMORE! IT STARTED WITH THE HEAD LIGHTS GOING OUT THEN SHORTLY AFTER THAT WAS FIXED THE CAR WOULD SHUDDER START. THE CLOCK WOULD SHOW 000 AS IF THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW AND NEEDED THE TIME PLACED ON THE CLOCK THE SAME THING WAS HAPPENING TO THE SPEEDOMETER. THEN THE CAR JUST WOULDN'T NOT START AT ALL. INTERNAL ISSUE ALLOWING COMBUSTION PRESSURE TO GET INTO COOLING SYSTEM WHICH IS HAMPERING COOLING EFFICIENCY AS WELL AS CAUSING AREACTION OFF COOLANT. WHEN I DROVE THE CAR HALF WAY ON THE HIGHWAY IT STARTED TO SMOKE AFTER I JUST GOT IT BACK FROM TURNER KIA AFTER FIXING WHAT THEY SAID WAS THE PROBLEM AFTER THAT I TOOK IT BACK TO TURNER KIA AND THEY DIAGNOSIS IT AS NEEDING A NEW ENGINE.

THE MOTORS ON ALL MY WINDOWS WENT OUT AND MY STEERING WHEEL WHEEL SHAKES AND RATTLES REALLY BAD, IT'S CONCERNING
I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD ABOUT 50 MILES AN HOUR WHEN CAR LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING WERE STILL ON. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A SIDE STREET TO PULL OVER AND PARK THE CAR. I SHUT IT OFF AND THEN WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT BLACK SMOKE WITH AN ELECTRICAL TYPE SMELL CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. KIA DEALERSHIP SAID MOTOR WAS SEIZED AND REPLACED IT UNDER A RECALL. THEN THEY SAID IT NEEDED FUEL PUMP AND BATTERY (WHICH BATTERY WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD), SO I HAD BOTH REPLACED. I DROVE FOR 2 DAYS AND HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR SO I TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT NEEDED A STARTER AND AN ELECTRICAL ASSESSMENT FOR A SHORT, AS STARTER BEGAN SMOKING WITH THE VEHICLE NOT EVEN RUNNING. NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT NEEDS A NEW JUNCTION BOX/FUSE BOX OVER $2900...

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF A POLICE OR FIRE REPORT FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INFORMED THE CONTACT THERE WAS A ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITHIN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET AND CONTACT WAS UNAWARE IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DECLARED TOTALED BY HIS INSURANCE....
WHEN ISTART MY VEHICLE, SOMETIMES THE RADIO DOES NOT COME ON, SO I HAVE TO PULL THE FUSE AND PLACE IT BACK IN. ALSO, I CANNOT EXCEL PAST 40MPH, OTHERWISE IT STALLS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS STRANDED IN WYOMING, SO I HAD TO LEASE A NEW KIA. I STILL OWE ON MY 2013 OPTIMA, WHICH IS NOT DRIVABLE. I DID NOT WANT A NEW VEHICLE. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED.

THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO MERGE OVER INTO THE SIDE LANE SAFELY BECAUSE THE BREAKS ALONG WITH THE STEERING SUDDENLY BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. AFTER PLACING THE CAR INTO PARK AND REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION, I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. IT STARTED, SO I CONTINUED HEADING HOME. APPROXIMATELY DRIVING ANOTHER 12 MILES, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THIS TIME WAS UPON RESTARTING IT, A WEIRD KNOCKING NOISE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, SO I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO RESTART IT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP, SO I CONTINUED HEADING HOME. TODAY, ONCE AGAIN WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR SHUT OFF. SAME KNOCKING, AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 5 MINUTES, I RESTARTED IT, ONLY TO CONTINUOUSLY...

I WAS HEADED TO WORK AND FOUND MY SELF FRUSTRATED BECAUSE IT TOOK SO MANY TIMES TO TRY TO TURN ON THE CAR. ON 12/11/2019 , I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 KIA OPTIMA SX TURBO WHEN SUDDENLY IT STARTED TO SPUTTER, AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL OVER THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF/ SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.. I WAS FORCED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSH IT ONTO THE NEAREST SIDEWALK RAMP ONTO A STORAGE PARKING LOT.. AFTER THAT THE ENGINE WOULDNT TURN.. THE BATTERY WASNT DEAD BECAUSE THE RADIO, LIGHTS , DASHBOARD WOULD ALL TURN ON , BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER, IT WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE A SOUND AS IF IT WERE TRYING .. I TOWED IT TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE FROZE/ SEIZED AND THEY FOUND METALLIC PARTICLES IN THE OIL... I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT LOOKS LIKE SOME KIA OPTIMA ENGINES HAVE A CERTAIN RECALL FOR PREMATURE BEARING WEAR AND TEAR...
MY CAR KEEPS HAVING SOME KIND OF AN ELECTRICAL GLITCH WHERE IT SEEMS MY BATTERY IS DEAD COMPLETELY WIPES THE MEMORY FROM THE CAR THEN IT'LL START 1 MINUTE LATER, TIRES KEEP GETTING EATING FROM THE INSIDE JUST ABOVE THE RIM, MOTOR HAS BEEN MAKING A TICKING NOISE SINCE I GOT THE CAR IT WAS LOOKED AT AS ONE OF THE RECALLS AND SAID IT WAS FINE, I FEEL THIS CAR IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY, THE HAS EVEN SHUT OFF AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ACTED LIKE IT WAS THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND IT STARTED A COUPLE MINUTES LATER
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN FAILED TO SOUND. KIA OF IRVINE (LOCATED AT 45 OLDFIELD, IRVINE, CA 92618, 949-612-9514) WAS CALLED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE NOT COVERED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V363000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
DROVE TO GET ICE CREAM AND CAR WAS RUNNING WELL, WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. SHIFT THE CAR OFF TO ORDER ICE CREAM, AND WHEN GETTING BACK IN THE CAR, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND MY MUSIC WOULD PLAY AS WELL AS THE AC TURNED ON, BUT NOTHING MORE THAN AN ALMOST SILENT TICKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HAD MY HUSBAND TRY TO JUMP THE CAR TO SEE IF THAT HELPS, AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME AND THE NEXT MORNING, MY HUSBAND AND I REPLACED THE IGNITION SENSOR FUSE AND THE CAR STARTED. THEN A COUPLE HOURS LATER I TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN, AND IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. CAR HAS BEEN DISABLED EVER SINCE AND IS GOING ON 1 WEEK NOW. CAR BROKE DOWN ON WEDNESDAY 31 JULY, 2019. NOT TO MENTION THAT I JUST...
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START MY VEHICLE EVERYTHING TURNED ON IN THE CAR EXCEPT THE CAR ITSELF. BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND NOTHING WOULD TURN THE ENGINE ON. IT TOOK OVER 10 MINUTES AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO FIRE. HAS HAPPENED TWICE TODAY 7/13/19. THE VEHICLE IS A PUSH BUTTON START WITH BATTERY CHARGE OF 95% AND NEW BATTERIES IN THE FOB.
