MULTIPLE TIRE BLOW OUTS LESS THAN 5000 MILES WITH THE FIRST ONE, LESS THAN 80 MILES WITH THE REPLACEMENT (SPARE NEVER USED ALWAYS MAINTAINED) WHICH THEN CAUSED A THIRD TIRE TO STRIP. ALL OF THIS WITHIN ONE TRIP WITH OUR RV THAT IS JUST 5YRS OLD. WE PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW AND SINCE HE WAS A TRUCK DRIVER, HE ALWAYS DID INSPECTIONS BEFORE EACH TRIP CHECKING TIRES, PRESSURE, WEAR ETC. OUR TIRES WERE VIRTUALLY BARELY WORN WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND LOOKED BRAND NEW. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT THE FIRST BLOW OUT HAPPENED AS WE ARRIVED AT OUR LOCATION, THE SECOND BLEW TRAVELING 60MPH ON A FLAT HIGHWAY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO STOP ABRUPTLY BEFORE THE THIRD TIRE ACTUALLY BURST. WE ONLY ENDED UP WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE TO OUR RV, HOWEVER I WAS HIGHLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE INCIDENTS AND WHEN SEARCHING ONLINE THE DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS WITH REGARDS TO THESE...
I HAVE A 2004 KEYSTONE COUGAR 31QBHS TRAVEL TRAILER. I BOUGHT IT USED ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. IT HAD NEW TIRES ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. ON OUR SECOND TRIP OUT (I CHECK AIR PRESSURE BEFORE LEAVING EACH TIME) I BLEW A TIRE. IT HAS THE DISCOUNT TIRE - CARLISLE MAXXUS TRAILER TIRE - HEAVIEST RATED TRAILER TIRE I COULD GET FROM THEM) IT BLEW A TIRE WITHIN 45 MILES OF THE HOUSE. OUR THIRD TRIP OUT WE BLEW ANOTHER TIRE. I WENT BACK TO DISCOUNT AND THEY REPLACED ALL TIRES. ON A TRIP THIS PAST WEEKEND ANOTHER TIRE SEPARATED AND WENT FLAT. ANOTHER BLEW OUT ON THE RETURN TRIP AND ANOTHER SEPARATED. I HAVE SOMEONE WHERE I STORE MY TRAILER, THAT HAS AN IDENTICAL COUGAR AND LIKEWISE HAS CONTINUAL BLOWOUTS AND TIRE PROBLEMS. FAULTY SHACKLES AND 2 BENT AXLES ON 2004 KEYSTONE COUGAR FIFTH WHEEL CAUSED TIRES EXCESSIVE WEAR TO CORE. ONE TIRE BLEW OUT. LESS THAN 7000 LONG DISTANCE MILES ON CAMPER. WEIGHT WAS 2000 LBS UNDER LIMIT OF 10,000 LBS. KEYSTONE CLAIMS NO RECALL AND NO RESPONSIBILITY, WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS WOULD OCCUR. WHILE DRIVING ON I26 W, " MISSION" TIRE BLOWUP ON OUR RV CAUSING AN EXPENSIVE DAMAGE TO OUT 5TH WHEEL. DO TO RELATIVELY LOW SPEED AND WHERE IT HAPPENED THERE WAS NO SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURIES. THE TIRES ON THE RV ARE PROPERLY INFLATED AND NEW WITH ONLY 2500 ON THEM. *TR
WE PURCHASED OUR 2004 KEYSTONE COUGAR TRAVEL TRAILER IN FEB 2005 FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHO HAD ONLY USED IT ON A 200 MILE TRIP ONCE AS HIS WIFE HAD TAKEN ILL AND HE COULDN'T USE IT ANY LONGER. IN APR/MAY OF 2006 WE WENT ON A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP. WE HAD A BLOWOUT THE 1ST DAY OUT ON I-75 NEAR THE NORTH MARION COUNTY LINE. WE THEN HAD ANOTHER BLOWOUT AS WE ENTERED CA ON I-8. OUR 3RD BLOWOUT CAME ON OUR RETURN TRIP ON I-10 IN LA. ALL THREE TIRES WERE MISSION RADIALS THAT CAME NEW ON THE RV FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND CAUSED FENDER DAMAGE. ON MAY 31, 2007 WE AGAIN WENT ON ANOTHER CROSS COUNTRY TRIP. I PURCHASED A 2004 COUGAR 5TH WHEEL MADE BY KEYSTONE RV IN APRIL OF 2005 FROM A LOCAL DEALER. SINCE THEN WE HAVE TAKEN TWO LONG TRIPS (OVER 500 MILES) AND EACH TIME HAVE HAD MULTIPLE BLOW-OUTS (2 ON THE FIRST TRIP AND 3 THIS LAST TRIP). THUS, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL FIVE TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE UNIT WITH BRAND-NEW TIRES. ALL OF THE BLOW-OUTS HAVE OCCURRED ON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS DOING 60MPH AND THERE WAS NO WARNING NOR COULD I FEEL THAT A TIRE HAD GONE. FORTUNATELY EITHER I NOTICED SMOKE IN MY SIDE MIRRORS OR A PASSERBY HAS ALERTED ME TO THE FAILED TIRE. I ALWAYS ENSURE PROPER TIRE INFLATION BEFORE TOWING AND CARRY AN AIR COMPRESSOR WITH ME. INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: WE PURCHASED A NEW 2004 KEYSTONE COUGAR TRAVEL TRAILER THAT I SAY HAVE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TIRES ON IT. WE HAD ONE BLOW OUT ON A LONG TRIP LAST YEAR, AND THIS FALL WE HAD TWO MORE BLOW OUT ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND ALL THREE DID (EACH CASE) ABOUT $1500.00 IN DAMAGE TO THE TRAILER. THE FIRST ONE, THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT TO THE TIRE WHEN WE GOT STOPPED. THE SECOND WAS SHREDDED TOO. THE THIRD WAS STARTING TO COME APART, AND THE FOURTH ONE I TOOK OF THE WHEN AND WAS STARTING TO SEPARATE INSIDE THE TIRE. THE BRAND NAME IS MISSION. TIRECO (MISSION TIRES) CAME STOCK ON A NEW 2004 COUGAR RV TRAILER AND WE'VE HAD 4 BLOWOUTS OUT OF THE 5 STOCK TIRES WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. CURRENTLY FILING COMPLAINT WITH COMPANY - EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE RV AND EXTREME POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO LIVES. ON A RECENT VACATION WE EXPERIENCED ONE INSTANCE OF TREAD SEPARATION CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF OUR 2004 COUGAR BY KEYSTONE FIFTH WHEEL AND ANOTHER INCIDENT OF SIDEWALL BLOWOUT CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE. THE TIRES HAD BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND HAD 5000 MILES ON THEM. THEY WERE MISSION BRAND TIRES. THE FIRST TIRE HAD SO LITTLE LEFT THAT WE DID NOT SAVE IT BUT WE DID SAVE THE SECOND TIRE. MY GEICO INSURANCE ADJUSTER LOOKED AT IT AND BELIEVED IT TO BE DEFECTIVE AND ASKED ME TO CALL THE RV DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED IT TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY REPORTED INCIDENTS CONCERNING THE MISSION BRAND TIRES THAT CAME ON THE RIG. DT: THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HAD TWO TIRE BLOW OUTS IN TWO DAYS. THE FIRST ONE WAS ON 6-01-05, AND THE SECOND ONE ON 6-02-05; BOTH WHILE DRIVING ON I-45. THE CONTACT SENT 4 TIRES BACK TO THE TIRE COMPANY, AND THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE TIRES. SHE DID NOT NOTICE ANY VIBRATION OR BULGES IN THE TIRES. THE PSI ON THE TIRES WAS 50. THERE WAS ONLY 8,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. THEY WERE WELL MAINTAINED TIRES. THE BRAND OF THE TIRE WAS MISSION, AND THEY WERE ON A COUGAR FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER. WHILE TRAVELING W/B ON ROUTE 50 IN ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, WE EXPERIENCED A BLOWN PASSENGER SIDE TIRE ON OUR 2004 KEYSTONE COUGAR TRAVEL TRAILER. THIS BLOWN TIRE, CAUSED THE TRAILER TO FALL ON ITS SIDE, COME BACK UP AND JACK KNIFE INTO OUR SUBURBAN, CAUSING A TOTAL LOSS TO THE COUGAR AND OVER $11,000.00 IN DAMAGE TO OUR 2004 SUBURBAN. THE TRAILER WAS ONLY USED FOR ONE SEASON AND THE TIRES HAD APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES ON THEM. WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THERE WAS LESS THAN 12,000 MILES ON BOTH TIRES LOCATED ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY, AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. DID NOT HIT ANYTHING WHILE TRAVELING AT 60-65 MPH. THE FIRST TIRE BLEW ON 7-1-05. IT WAS THE LEFT LEADING TIRE IN A DUAL AXLE TIRE. THE SECOND TIRE BLEW ON JULY 3, 05. IT WAS THE RIGHT TIRE IN A DUAL AXLE TIRE SETUP. THE RECOMMENDED PSI IS 65. THE CONTACT REGULARLY SERVICED THE TIRES, AND DID NOT NOTICE ANY VIBRATING OR ABNORMAL BULGING IN THE TIRES. HE DID NOT HAVE ANY LOW TIRE LIGHTS ON CAMPER. *AK
DT: WHILE INSPECTING THE TIRES THE CONSUMER NOTICED A BUBBLE IN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER REPLACED THE TIRE FOR FREE. THE TIRE HAD ABOUT 500 MILES ON IT AT TIME OF THE BULGE. ANOTHER TIRE ON THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE WENT BAD, AND SHOWED TREAD SEPARATION. UPON INSPECTING THE TIRES, THE OWNER NOTICED A STEEL BELT COMING THROUGH THE TREAD. THIS TIRE HAS ABOUT 11000 MILES ON IT.
