REAR DRIVER SIDE ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FAILED IN MARCH, 2020 AT 26,835 MILES AND REPAIRED AT A COST OF $244.41. WITH EACH FAILURE, VEHICLE'S ABS, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, AND CRUISE CONTROL BECAME INOPERATIVE AND WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ENGAGE THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES WHILE DRIVING AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS.

THE FIRST INCIDENCE, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES SEIZED WHILE DRIVING ON A DRY EVENING AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 25MPH CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO NEARLY COLLIDE AND FORCING US BOTH OFF THE ROAD. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BH A MECHANIC AND HE FOUND NOTHING SO SAID TO BRING IT BACK NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS. THE VEHICLE WAS FINE FOR A WEEK AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN FROM THE DRIVEWAY. IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES ON THE ROAD NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND SEVERAL OTHER TIMES FORCING DRIVERS BEHIND ME TO PASS. I FIND IT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST MILE OR 2 AFTER STARTING A DRIVE AND THEN IS OK. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SUGGESTED REPLACE ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL MODULES ASSOCIATED WITH BRAKES AND REPLACE THE BRAKES AND PADS SINCE THE SEIZING OF THE ABS HAS CAUSED PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKES. 9/27/2019. 4:30PM. ACCELERATED NORMALLY ON CITY STREET FROM STOP LIGHT AND MADE LEFT TURN. AS I TURNED, ENGINE CHOKED AND STUMBLED AND VEHICLE HAD REDUCED POWER, SLOWING VEHICLE. TRACTION CONTROL DASH LIGHT CAME ON. CAR BEHIND ALMOST HIT ME. AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS, ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL AND VEHICLE PICKED UP SPEED. 10-15 SECONDS LATER SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITH TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE DASH LIGHTS COMING ON. ENGINE REDUCED POWER AND VEHICLE SLOWED AGAIN IN TRAFFIC. AFTER 10 SECONDS, ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL, DASH LIGHTS WENT OFF. VEHICLE HAS BEEN NORMAL SINCE THEN. WEATHER AT THE TIME: SUNNY, 85 DEGREES, DAYLIGHT. ROADS COMPLETELY DRY. VEHICLE DID NOT DRIVE THRU WATER, ETC. HAD BEEN DRIVING ON CITY STREETS 25-40 MPH FOR 20 MINUTES. CALLED DEALER. NO HELP ON PHONE. TOOK VEHICLE TO JEEP DEALER ON NOV 6, 2019 AND THEY FOUND CODE "C1043 PERFORMANCE" BUT SAID NOTHING MORE....

IMMEDIATELY AFTER ENTERING THE ROADWAY (RIGHT TURN) AND AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE BRAKES APPLIED WITHOUT WARNING OR HUMAN INTERVENTION. WHEN THIS SITUATION OCCURRED 2 DASH WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED, THE 'ESC ACTIVATED' AND THE 'ABS'LIGHT ACTIVATED. THIS CREATES AN UNEXPECTED SITUATION FOR THOSE VEHICLES TRAVELING BEHIND AND NOT EXPECTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THEM TO SUDDENLY BRAKE. JEEP HAS INDICATED THE FAILURE OF A WHEEL SPEED SENSOR TO BE THE CAUSE OF THIS SUDDEN BRAKING.

THE SPEED SENSOR FOR THE FRONT BRAKES ON MY 2016 JEEP WRANGLER FAILED AND LED TO COSTLY REPAIRS. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP SO BAD THEY STALLED THE JEEP WHEN I LET OUT THE CLUTCH. THE JEEP LITERALLY SLAMMED ON IT'S OWN BRAKES IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT ME HAVING APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE LIGHTS OF COURSE DID NOT COME ON AND I NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT. THE REPAIR COST $1200. THE JEEP DEALER TOLD ME "THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM".

VEHICLE NOTIFIED IT HAD A FAULT IN THE ABS/ESC SYSTEM VIA THE YELLOW WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATING ON THE DASH. OCCURRED AFTER STARTING THE CAR AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY AT FIRST AND ASSUMED THIS INDICATED THE SYSTEMS HAD A FAULT AND WERE THUS DISABLED. HOWEVER, VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER, STUMBLE, AND NOT ACCELERATE WHEN MOVING FROM DEAD STOP. INCLUDING STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, CROSSING DIVIDED HIGHWAYS AND INTERSECTIONS--TURNING AND STRAIGHT TRAVEL. PAVEMENT CONDITIONS WERE DRY/LEVEL, NO WHEEL SPIN OCCURRED. 3 OCCASIONS OVER 2 DAYS RESULTED IN NEAR ACCIDENTS. ONCE AFTER TURNING RIGHT FROM A STOP SIGN, ACCELERATING THROUGH FIRST GEAR AND REAR BRAKES BEGIN TO CYCLE WHILE POWER IS CUT FROM ENGINE. CAR BEHIND HAD TO SWERVE AROUND SO AS NOT TO COLLIDE. NO WARNING OR INDICATION THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. NEXT EVENT WAS CROSSING 2 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY FROM CENTER TURN LANE. AGAIN SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED LOSS...

WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CITY CONDITIONS THE "ESC" LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE "ABS" WARNING AND THE "HILL DECENT CONTROL" FLASHING. I EASED OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND IT SEEMED TO STABILIZE, THEN AS APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN, SAME THING, VEHICLE HESITATED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TURNED RIGHT, OFF THE ROADWAY, ONTO A SIDE STREET AT WHICH TIME THE "ESC" AND "ABS" LIGHTS EXTINGUISHED AND THE NORMAL OPERATION RETURNED. TRAVELING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY UNDER CLEAR CONDITIONS, MID-DAY, LIGHT DRIZZLE, THIS 2016 JEEP WRANGLER 4WD WITH LESS THAN 5,000 MILES ON IT HYDROPLANED INTO AN ON-COMING SEMI TRACTOR TRAILER RESULTING IN A HEAD ON COLLISION AND ROLLOVER. NO OTHER CAR IN FRONT OF NOR BEHIND THIS VEHICLE HAD HYDROPLANING ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND THE DRIVER CRITICALLY INJURED WITH LONG TERM DISABILITY PROGNOSIS. 2016 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON UNLIMITED. PRIOR TO PURCHASE, THE TRACTION LIGHT WAS ON. NOT EVEN 5 MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE HAS EXTREME SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL, THE VEHICLE VEERS TO THE RIGHT WITHOUT THE STEERING WHEEL TURNING TO THE RIGHT, REAR TRACTION SLIPPAGE, AND A LIT TRACTION LIGHT ON THE DASH. THIS HAPPENED ON A DRY, SMOOTH, STRAIGHT- STRETCH OF HIGHWAY (65-70MPH) COMING HOME FROM PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE LIT TRACTION LIGHT WAS PROBABLY THE PROBLEM AND FACTORY RESET THE VEHICLE AND SAID THE VEHICLE WAS PERFECT. 4 MILES INTO THE 7 MILE DRIVE HOME, EVERYTHING RECURRED AGAIN MERGING RIGHT TO TAKE A RIGHT HAND HIGHWAY EXIT -RAMP (~67MPH, 185MI). PRIOR TO TOWING THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, IT IS NOTED THAT WATER IS ACCUMULATING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR AND KEEPS REAPPEARING....

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2016 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED GOING DOWN A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD AT 45MPH ON A SUNNY DAY. THE TRACTION CONTROL SUDDENLY KICKED ON AND APPLIED THE BRAKES ONLY ON ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND TRIED TO PULL ME INTO THE CAR IN THE NEXT LANE TO MY RIGHT. DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG.
