LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE ON 2002 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. ORIGINAL LOWER BALL JOINT RECALL WAS NOV 03. AT THAT TIME MY VEHICLES BALL JOINTS WERE INSPECTED AND THE ALUMINUM HEAT SHIELD WAS INSTALLED. MY BALL JOINT WAS NOT REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE ALREADY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 23911 MILES ON 29 JUL 03. I NOW HAVE 42665 MILES TODAY 25 OCT 05, AND THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT HAS FAILED. IT HAS EXCESSIVE BUMP (UP AND DOWN MOTION IN THE SOCKET) AND VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL AND ON FLOORBOARD. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, AND IS PARKED WAITING FOR NEW PARTS, BASED ON OTHER FAILURES I HAVE SEEN OR HEARD ABOUT. JEEP HAS USED AN UNDER RATED PART FOR THIS APPLICATION.
