Defect: WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING CERTAIN RECREATIONAL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 1200-SERIES NORCOLD REFRIGERATORS. THE POPULATION OF REFRIGERATORS BEING ADDRESSED CONTAINS EITHER A SENSING ALGORITHM OR THERMAL SWITCH TO SHUT OFF POWER TO THE REFRIGERATOR WHEN HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE DETECTED IN ORDER TO PREVENT A POTENTIAL FIRE. THE RESPONSE TIMES OF THE SENSOR ALGORITHM AND THERMAL SWITCH DEVICES TO STOP POWER ARE NOT...

Consequence: THE SENSING ALGORITHM OR THERMAL SWITCH INSTALLED TO SHUT OFF POWER TO THE REFRIGERATOR WHEN HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE DETECTED DUE TO A POSSIBLE HYDROGEN GAS LEAK MAY NOT SHUT OFF IN SUFFICIENT TIME TO PREVENT A FIRE.

Defect: CERTAIN MOTOR HOME CHASSIS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 105,"HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR MAY NOT FUNCTION AS REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD.

Consequence: IN SOME OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR WILL NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE IGNITION IS IN THE START POSITION OR FOR A LOW BRAKE FLUID CONDITION, IF THE BODY BUILDER RELIED SOLELY UPON FORD'S IVM COMPLIANCE STATEMENT FOR THE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR.

I PURCHASED MY RV IN 2004 AND IT WAS 2 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. LATER THAT YEAR I FOUND OUT IT WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL FOR A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO A RECOMMENDED DEALER IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004 (25,760 MILES) AND THEY SAID IT WAS OK. I DO NOT RECALL IF THEY DID ANYTHING OR NOT. I AGAIN TOOK IT FOR SERVICE IN FEBRUARY 2006 (39,000 MILES) AND WAS TOLD THE DISCS WERE SCORED AND CRACKED BUT THAT THEY SHOULD BE OK. LAST SPRING IN MARCH 2007 ((50,000 MILES) I TOOK IT IN FOR ANOTHER CHECKUP AND WAS AGAIN TOLD THE DISCS WERE IN BAD SHAPE SO I AUTHORIZED A FULL BRAKE JOB. (ABOUT $2000 IF I RECALL CORRECTLY BUT I HAVE FULL DOCS AND CAN FIND THEM IF NECESSARY) I HAVE BEEN READING THAT THERE IS AN APPARENT GENERIC PROBLEM WITH THESE BRAKING SYSTEMS AND THEY ARE FAILING AT A VERY HIGH RATE. 1) THE MANUFACTURE, WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES, EQUIPPED THE DRIVER "COCKPIT" OF THE VEHICLE WITH THERMOPANE WINDOWS WITH AN IDENTIFIED WEAKNESS. THE SEALS IN THE WINDOWS ARE INADEQUATE TO MAINTAIN SEAL INTEGRITY, THUS ALLOWING AIR INFILTRATION. SAID AIR INFILTRATION CAUSED FOGGING OF THE GLASS, AND AN ACCUMULATION OF CONDENSATION WITHIN THE GLASS. 2) THE FOGGING AND ASSOCIATED CONDENSATION CAUSED SIGNIFICANT VISUAL IMPAIRMENT FOR THE OPERATOR. BOTH DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE VISIBILITY IS GREATLY HAMPERED, WHICH IN A MOTORHOME IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. 3) THE ONLY KNOWN SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE EFFECTED WINDOWS. *JB
