Defect: ON CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES AND TRUCK MODEL VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN FEBRUARY 28, 1999, THROUGH APRIL 5, 2004, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) MAY MISINTERPRET A CORRUPT WHEEL SPEED SIGNAL.
Consequence: THE CORRUPT WHEEL SPEED SIGNALS MAY IMPROPERLY ACTIVATE THE ABS, INSTEAD OF DEACTIVATING THE ABS. THIS MAY RESULT IN THE DRIVER EXPERIENCING A HARD PEDAL FEEL AND A DECREASE IN DECELERATION AT THE END OF THE STOP, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES WHICH COULD CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.

Defect: ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS, A BRASS FITTING CONNECTS THE DOUBLE CHECK VALVE TO THE BRAKE RELAY VALVE. WITH CERTAIN INPUTS TO THE VEHICLE, THE WEIGHT OF THE CHECK VALVE ON THE FITTING CAN CAUSE THE ASSEMBLY TO RESONATE. THE SUBJECT VIBRATION CAN CAUSE EXCESSIVE STRAIN LEVELS IN THE FITTING, WHICH COULD EVENTUALLY FATIGUE AND FAIL.
Consequence: IF THE FITTING BREAKS, THE REAR SERVICE BRAKES WILL CEASE TO OPERATE WITHOUT WARNING, RESULTING IN AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

IF SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE CAB ADJUSTS/SLIDES THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO ITS MOST FORWARD POSITION, WITH THE PARKING BRAKE SET, THE SEAT WILL CONTACT AND RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER.

Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE NON-ENGAGEMENT OF THE PARK PAWL WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SELECTOR IS MOVED TO THE PARK POSITION, RESULTING IN UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT AND A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

2000 INTERNATIONAL 4700 MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK USED AS A TOW TRUCK HAS NO CUSHION ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT, AS A RESULT, I HAVE HAD A BACK FUSION AND STILL HAVE SEVERE HIP PAIN. *AK
BOLTS SECURING THE BRAKE CALIPER HAVE BROKEN ON THE COMPANY'S INTERNATIONAL 4700'S. THREE TO FOUR TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST 3 YEARS. USUALLY DRIVER LOSES NEARLY ALL BRAKING POWER. *PH
SINCE NEW THIS TRUCK HAS HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH NO MANUFACTURE REMEDY. WITHOUT WARNING THE REAR PADS HAVE WORN THROUGH THE ROTORS AND THE ROTORS HAVE FALLEN OFF. THE FRONT ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES AND AT LEAST 6 COMPLETE SETS OF BRAKE PADS IN 195,000 MILES. THIS IS UNACEPPTABLE FOR A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK THAT ONLY HAULS ONE CAR! THERE IS NO SMOKE OR OVERHEATING OF THE BRAKES, ONLY RAPID WEAR AND NO WARNING OF FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS NUMEROUS TIMES AND CHECKED OUT THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. IT IS NOW AT MY EXPENSE AS THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME IT IS NO LONGER UNDER THEIR PROBLEM. NOW WHEN TALKING TO THE DEALER THEY DENY ANY KNOWLEDGE OF BRAKE PROBLEMS ON THESE VEHICLES. I FEEL THERE ARE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ON THIS MODEL TRUCK TO CAUSE SOME ALARM AND SHOULD WARRENT AN INVESTIGATION. THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS ON THE 4700 WITH HYDRALIC BRAKES AND IS CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR OTHER MOTORIST ON THE HIGHWAY.
THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS REPLACED TWO TIMES, AND THE THIRD TIME, THE REAR AXLE FELL ONTO THE STREET. AT THE TIME A PATIENT ALONG WITH PARAMEDIC(S) WERE IN THE REAR. (AMBULANCE TRUCK) THE PARKING BRAKE IS UNSAFE, BECAUSE IT IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, IT HAS TWO NEUTRALS AND NO LOCK-UNSAFE. SCC
