The dealer requested that the contact return every 1,000 miles for inspection. The failure persisted, and the vehicle was returned to the dealer every 1,000 miles. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for an inspection, and the dealer discovered that the catalytic converter was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a second opinion, and the contact was informed that the engine had failed due to a defect in one of the engine cylinders.
