Recall 16V722000 — AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION

| 84,500 vehicles affected

Defect: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.

Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.

Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. Parts are not currently available and a second letter will be sent to owners when parts are available. Owners may contact...

Defective connecting-rod bearing(s) that wore out prematurely and damaged the engine while driving on the interstate at approximately 70 MPH. Vehicle has less than 80,000 miles. My engine immediately lost the ability to accelerate sufficiently, but I was able to pull off the next exit and have the vehicle towed to the dealership and grabbed a Lyft home from Richmond to Williamsburg, VA. Vehicle is at the Williamsburg Hyundai Dealership now being diagnosed and I am awaiting their call and repair determination, and I have had my vehicle serviced at the same dealer for many years. When the vehicle's engine "broke" I heard clunking noises and the oil pressure light came on.
