Engine is burning too hot its burning though oil. Oil change sept 3rd 2025 and by nov 7 2025 car had NO OIL. this is an oil burn off issue with the sport engine in this model Elantra. i cannot get an oil change every month. that is ridiculous. this time it caused my car to have flashing engine light due to insanely low oil after just TWO MONTHS. i only drive 60 miles a day. shop told me in april15 20205 i had an oil leak and they fixed it, resealed again in july cuz the oil was still going low. now they told me nov 11th they did a test and the engine is running too hot and is burning off the oil.
The vehicle caught fire while it was in motion; there were loud bangs and a lot of noise, and smoke started coming out of the front, and the engine and the undercarriage caught fire.I managed to turn it off, but when they were towing it, the mechanics did the diagnostic and found wires were faulty and damaged the engine.
I started to see the oil light on the dashboard and i heard a hard sound from the engine so that i changed the oil then after a couple days i saw the light again on with a little bit high temperature, so stooped by a gas station and i added some more oil after i shut the car off and waited to cool the engine down and i started the car, the oil light was gone and the engine sound was smoother then i started to get the same issue every couple days and i used to fix it the same way and I've had the same experience with my previous car which was the same brand but different year band model which i found a recall on the engine after it blown and the agency or the manufacturer changed the engine for free for that car and the...
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was started, and the engine revved abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while stopped at a stopped sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle jerked forward before accelerating. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice; however, the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 94,512.
A significant class action settlement, known as the Hyundai Engine II Class Action Settlement, was established to address allegations of engine defects in various Hyundai models. This settlement includes vehicles equipped with the Nu 2.0-liter GDI engine, such as the 2014–2020 Elantra GT. The lawsuit claimed that these engines could suffer from issues like engine seizure, stalling, and potential engine fires. My vehicles engine is the engine listed above and has been experiencing those exact problems. My engine has been stalling and making a knocking noise. A professional mechanic evaluated my vehicle and diagnosed it with first stage engine failure. Engine failure of any kind while driving is extremely dangerous and could lead to sudden stopping on a highway, collision, and result in the loss of life of both the driver and other drivers sharing the road. In addition to the Engine II settlement, there was a separate class action...
The engine in my car (Hyundai Elantra gt 2014) basically did everything I read about all the other Hyundai engines doing that are under engine recalls. Years ago it started having misfires, had the catalytic converter or parts of it replaced, sensors, over consuming oil, loud noises when it's lower on oil and eventually it just recently died. Unfortunately it's only 11,000 miles over the extended warranty period to get it replaced. The bad engine stuff basically broke the current catalytic converter and the dealership wants over 10,000 dollars to fix it and replace the engine... not including tax. The worse part is sometime like a year ago I went to a dealership because I had an apt for an oil change. The day before my check engine light turned on. So at the apt while checking in my car I mentioned to the guy taking photos of my car...
Engine failure related to piston slapping in upper motor. 3 months out of warranty and 115,000 miles.
Ticking or knocking in the engine, as many other have described. Engine does not accelerator properly due to this issue, causing safety issues with accelerating to merge or enter traffic. Known defect that should be covered by Hyundai as regular scheduled maintenance has been completed.
The contact owned a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the parking lot, the vehicle caught on fire. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been driven in four days. The fire department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to the local tow yard. The contact stated that the vehicle was condemned total lost by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
When I accelerate the gears grind and the car does not want to go any faster than 25 miles an hour.
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that they could not perform the recall repair unless the manufacturer confirmed that the vehicle was covered under factory warranty. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The car has little ticks..buzzy sounds, rough idle, decease power, loss in the fuel economy, had regular tune up, but the car stillnot right and could possibly be the computer
roughly 5 months ago i started to hear a ticking/knocking sound. since then it has gotten louder and the car is having issues accelerating. Hyundai refuses to fix it even thought they’ve had a class action for this exact issue.
Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I'm writing out of deep concern and frustration regarding the unrepaired safety recall on my 2014 Hyundai Elantra. Recall #23V651000 warns of an alarming risk of engine compartment fires, yet there's still no fix available from Hyundai. This isn't just a theoretical risk for me. I have no choice but to park my car in a public garage, making the fire hazard much worse. Hyundai's advice to park outside is impossible to follow, leaving me feeling trapped and unsafe. I find it difficult to understand why Hyundai can source parts for new vehicles, yet struggles to prioritize a fix for a potentially life-threatening safety issue affecting existing cars. I urge the NHTSA to take the following actions: * Investigate why this fix is taking so long. People's safety is on the line. * Push Hyundai to find a solution immediately. Each day of delay...
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at 40 MPH the brakes became hard and the steering wheel was inoperable. The vehicle caught fire. The ABS warning light was illuminated. There were no reported injuries. The driver was able to extinguish the fire. The driver continued to drive the vehicle. There was no police report filed. The air bags did not deploy. The ABS and battery unit were disconnected by the driver. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
I believe there was an electrical issue. While driving the car started smoking and my daughter pulled over and the there was fire coming from the engine and after that it just engulfed in flames. Fire was also coming from underneath when 1st started.
So theirs issues with window ,shaking while in red light, tick sound, was a banging under the hood sound like metal, also an electric sound not sure how to describe it
My car is only at 46000 miles.SinceI'm purchase from dealer it has given me the same issues of RPMs shooting up &speedometer going out of control the car wont go past 20mph & jerks back & forth, tyrning off while driving & has had a b"bad" drive since purchase. I dont know the issue and its never been fixed by dealer even though i took it in a few times for these issues. it now foing it again. my life is in danger with this care since purchase & hyundai shouldve replaced my car or engine but they do not care. this car is a lemon. and now the car can go on fire parked or driving? what can be done..on the nextvpart of complaint im putting down ladt week sice this is the newest incident of the desc.

When I had near 50,000 miles on my car, my car emitted lots of smoke (like severe burning) from the back when I drove on highway. I had to immediately take the car to Hyundai service. They said nothing is wrong with engine. Years later, I started hearing knocking noise from the front and got engine light on twice in the past. The last time was 3 days ago when I drove to the local airport to pick up my son. Someone inspected my car yesterday because Hyundai had no availability until the next month. He advised me to take the car to Hyundai as soon as possible. I took it to Hyundai service and they said nothing is wrong just like the last time years ago. He told me oil was leaking inappropriately and damaged the motor inside. He informed me this is normal with Hyundai vehicles as they...
The piston rings do not seal leading to increased oil consumption and very low oil. My safety was put at risk because when I pulled out into traffic that was going at a high speed I could not accelerate. There was no warning or indication that this was going on prior to this incident. Yes this has been confirmed by a Hyundai dealership and the component was inspected. There was no warning sign before this incident.
The engine started making a clicking sound, and was running rough. Then shook violently and turned off while I was on the freeway, Then getting very hot. It is defective and the dealer took it in under the t6g campaign but it was denied due to the salvage title for unrelated issues. Now it smokes if I drive it for an hour or two and takes a while to stop smoking afterwards. This car only has 120000 miles. They said it's a goodwill campaign but not a recall so they don't have to honor it. Now it runs for a few minutes but then smokes from the engine so I shut it off.
Hyundai has had numerous engine failures and fires, due to piston slap. Multiple lawsuits and recalls in other countries. Hyundai has a T6G service campaign to replace these engines and they even extended it to unlimited mileage for the first owner. The problem is that they will not honor this unless you are the first owner and you did all of your oil changes at the dealership. They have an 85% rejection rate for claims that have the eligible flaw... That is ridiculous. Why are they able to refuse to fix 85% of these engines that blow up and catch fire prematurely due to a known issue? Please recall these engines. Multiple times my engine has stopped leaving me with no power steering or brakes, one of which almost ended in a collusion on the highway. It took a lot of strength to push the break in to stop the...
My car randomly stalls when driving. I was recently driving the 101 freeway when in the middle of the lane my car stalled while driving roughly 10-15 mph. I noticed in that time my brakes malfunctioned in that when I tried to press on the brakes it did not feel like they were responding. I was able to move over to the shoulder of the freeway thankfully but was panicked an accident was going to happen. I had my car inspected previously in which hyundai said the issues was related to engine coils that had since been replaced and this incident happened after. I currently have my car being inspected by my mechanic to determine possible causes. When the car stalled it flashed the check engine and battery lights on my dashboard.
From a Hyundai dealership, I was sold a 2014 Hyundai Elantra in June of 2022 with a ticking noise. I was told it was normal and would go away with driving over time. It had not. I had the vehicle assessed by a reputable mechanic and then towed to and reassessed by a different Hyundai dealership. Was told the engine has piston slapping and engine is bad (by both). After a year and a half of back and forth, Hyundai has refused to repair or replace the engine or replace the vehicle since I’m not the original owner and it was sold over 100,000 miles on the vehicle. I paid a little over $13,000 for a rock that doesn’t drive. I don’t have $7,000 to replace an engine and I’m on a fixed income. There are lawsuits in other countries, just not in the USA yet. I need help please....
Recall
I have 2014 Hyundai Elantra it unsafe to drive put in drive it wouldn’t go forward . It jerky hard to go. Failure of light. Transmission.steer clutch shaft
My vehicle consumes outrageous amounts of oil - more than 1 quart per 1,000 miles. As a result, it is at high risk of seizing, engine failure, or fire. This engine needs to be recalled - there are Facebook groups of hundreds of people with the same exact problem, and Hyundai refuses to cover the engine replacement. Please help us!
While driving over the last month, the car shuts off with no warning. There are no check engine or other lights that come on once it shuts down. There does not appear to be any consistency in the occurences, sometimes while idling, sometimes while driving 40 mph. Up until recently, the car would restart once I put it in neutral, but it now does not restart right away.
Engine light has been on for almost a year with NO prior failure or issues after car hit a dangerous pot hole in the road which caused coil packs and spark plug replacements. After the repair, the engine light stayed on for almost a year and the car has been taken to multiple shops and a Hyundai dealer & diagnosed by Hyundai same answer of "maybe" leak and gas cap being loose. gas cap has been tightened and even replaced few times. Engine light stays on and no one can figure out why . The battery eventually died months later and when battery was replaced engine light came off and then back on days later. same result from mechanics of not knowing true reason engine light is on. 1 month after battery died alternator went out and no signs of knowing and safety concern because engine light stays on but...
I PURCHASED THE CAR AT A USED CAR DEALERSHIP. I DROVE IT HOME AND THE NEXT DAY THE ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP AND IT STARTED TO RUN ROUGH. WHILE DRIVING IT DOWN THE ROAD THE CAR SHUT DOWN AND I COULD NOT EVEN GET IT OFF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TOWED AND THEY AGREED TO TAKE IT AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTIC ON IT THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER PAYING 9500.00 FOR THIS VEHICLE AND IT DYING LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE ROAD. I HAVE NO VEHICLE.
I was driving home on april 13, 2023 when the power seemed to leave my car & steering & brakes felt like they weren't working right like I had no control. The battery & oil change lights came on. I was scared & didn't know what to do but then a min or so later I was able to get enough control to direct it into a parking lot across from my house & turned off the engine. When I turned the car back on the 2 warning lights were gone & I was able to drive it across the street. I had been hearing a noise under the hood & wasn't sure if it was a belt or something. A mechanic said the belts, hoses etc were good but he thinks that noise was my engine rod bearings going & he had dealt with more Hyundai engine problems recently....
Scored cylinder walls and needing a full motor replacement before the engine just seizes
I was driving the vehicle normally down the highway. When I exited the highway, I came to a stop light and made a complete stop at which point the engine stalled. I restarted the vehicle, the check engine light appeared, but I couldn’t get it to register any RPMs and I was left stranded in a busy intersection until help arrived.
My 2014 Elantra has a blinking check engine light on. This is an ongoing problem. The dealership diagnostic keeps saying that it is a misfire and I have paid to have it fixed. Change all the plugs twice and the check engine light is back blinking. I can't drive it at all. Each time this happened I was in the middle of traffic when I was forced to try to pull over. Very dangerous situation.
Piston slapping, engine failing. First diagnosed with Christian Auto Brothers of Concord, NC in December of 2022; then advised to tow to my local Modern Hyundai Dealer in Concord, NC 12:30/22. Same diagnostics, same result. *Hyundai extended their warranty to 140,000 miles for this issue, but refuse to fix since I’m not the original owner. Purchased June 2022 from Keffer Hyundai Dealership in Charlotte, NC.
The oil light is blinking and car repeatedly shuts off while driving mostly when going 25-45mph. When it shuts off I have to turn it off take the key out and turn it back on until the next time it happens. This usually occurs within an 20 minutes of driving. My safety was at risk because of other cars behind me going speed limit while car automatically shuts off. Car was bought on carvana no local dealer but have taken it to multiple shops and they are shocked to hear of no recall. The car has not been inspected by police insurance but local mechanic shops. Oil light blinks while driving constantly from start to finish while car shuts off steady oil engine and battery light on.
Engine has a load ticking noise, mechanic said he thought it was the lifters. The vehicle also stalls while driving; After accelerating and reaching cruising speed it will stall as you ease off accelerator. It has not done it using with cruise control.
my car will stall randomly at stop signs and red lights with absolutely no warning. it’s super dangerous and has almost caused a wreck. i have taken it to mechanic and no codes are being thrown and it’s showing nothing is wrong. it’s a matter of time a accident happens and someone gets hurt. I would definitely like to figure this out!
My car started cutting off while driving no warning lights on. I had a diagnostic test done and they didn’t find anything wrong. I’m so confused about what’s going on with this car but it’s very dangerous to drive on the highway. I have had three service checks on my car and it still cuts off in the middle of traffic. I had my brakes and rotors replaced because everytime I hit a pot hole or bump in the road my brake pad gets hard and I can’t push it to stop but after getting them replaced it still does the same thing.
Car started to shut down with no warning about a month ago. Took it to neighborhood garage and they couldn't figure it out . They called a Hyundai service department and they said they have seen the problem and it is a CR-Sensor. They (Hyundai service dept) sent the part to my garage and they made the repair. Car worked fine until a few days ago when it shut down again with no warning. This can be a serious safety issue if driving on a highway at highway speeds when it shuts down. HOWEVER IT DOES START UP RIGHT AFTER THE ENGINE STOPS .
ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING TWICE . ENGILE OIL WAS SERVICED 3 DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT . OIL LEVEL IS GOOD OIL INDICATION WAS FLASHING FOR 3 SECONDS WITH ENGINE TICKING BEFORE STALLING. LUCKILY I WASNT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY . A CAR SHOULD NEVER SUDDENLY DIE WHILE DRIVING WITH NO WARNINGS .
There is a significant problem with this car where the check engine and dashboard lights flicker on and then the car stalls and loses all power immediately. This has happened multiple times, including on the highway, which was a significant safety hazard. Upon taking the car to a Hyundai dealer, they indicated problems with the engine that require an engine replacement that would cost on the order of $8,000-9,000. Upon further research, we found two class action settlements related to engine problems for Hyundai vehicles of this type/age, but Hyundai says this vehicle is not covered due to mileage of 101,400.
My engine has a hole in the block and the starter completely blew up. Noone can explain how this has happened. The car shop wants $12,000 to repair this. The car never leaked any oil until the day it blew up on me. No check engine light ever came on, no oil light ever came on.
My engine failed as I was traveling on a highway, I was going around 80 MPH. This was very dangerous as I had other cars behind me and to the right of me, I was in the left lane. I had to gradually move over from the far left lane into the shoulder on the right side. It was extremely unsafe. UNKNOWN. UNKNOWN. My engine warning light became active.
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while at a stop when the contact accelerated to move forward and the vehicle accelerated at high speed and the contact noticed white smoke was coming from the exhaust of the vehicle. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the rings around the engine needed to be replaced and that the vehicle had an oil leak, The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
I noticed a rattling noise while accelerating in second and third gear under my car in the spring. I took it in to a repair shop and they resecured an under tray but otherwise did not seem concerned. The rattling noise continued. After driving on a longer trip on the highway recently the rattling became more frequent and intense, causing the whole car to shake. I also had difficulty accelerating above about 50 mph. I took my car in to a different shop the following day. They discovered that there was a misfire occurring in cylinder 3, causing buildup in the exhaust system (the rattling that I noticed) and which caused the catalytic converter to go bad, which I had to pay to replace. Throughout this entire time, my check engine light never came on, although it illuminated normally when turning on the car. The lack of a warning via...
2014 Hyundai Elantra GT routinely maintained and serviced as by the Hyundai dealership (never missed a service). Vehicle starting making a clicking/thudding sound. After getting it looked at, the technician said it is an engine issue and the engine is shot. The technician said that the engine will probably quit in the next month or so. The vehicle has only 100,000 miles on it and has been serviced by the dealership throughout ownership. This is a huge problem and Hyundai needs to step up and have this resolved. There needs to be a recall on the engine.
My engine light came on yesterday morning and started acting different. I went to a auto mechanic who after inspection told me my engine failed. This car is not that old and has had regular maintenance. I see now that many people have experienced this problem. I can't afford another car and in fact still paying for this one. What can I do?
