2016 HONDA ODYSSEY Fuelpropulsion System Problems

I have a Honda Odyssey 2016 with low mileage, which I purchased almost 2 years ago.This has happened twice. While driving in traffic, I approached a stop light and applied my brakes. When I applied the brakes, the engine accelerated at the same time propelling the car forward. I pressed on the brakes as hard as I could to keep the car from hitting the car in front of me. The second time this happened, I was able to turn off the ignition and then restart it. This is a very dangerous situation because it is extremely difficult to control the car and keep it from moving ahead. I used all of my strength to push against the brake to keep the car from moving ahead. There are other instances of this identified online if you search for it. There needs to be a recall or a way to fix...

There was a fuel pump failure causing the car to not start properly then shut off. The dealer we took the vehicle to stated that the pump almost exploded.

Car stalled while driving, requiring restart. Independent Service Center determined fuel pump failure. Independent Service Center replaced fuel pump.

The engine. I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey. All scheduled maintenance has always been done on this vehicle. I have all the documentation. And I mean it has been babied. It has 110,000 miles. Driving one morning last week and the car just seized up. No warning. No previous warning light. Had it towed to the dealership. The Variable Cylinder Management system had allowed a build up of gunk in the engine. Need an engine rebuild.$5600. Honda just had a recall for cars of the same model manufactured before 2014 for the same issue. As for safety having your engine seize up on the highway is dangerous.

While driving the engine started to run rough and the vehicle started to decelerate. The check engine light and the traction control light came on. I let up on the gas pedal, the van continued to run rough. I made it home and the next day took the van to a mechanic, he told me that he observed oil fouling on the #3 spark plug, consistent with worn piston rings. The van is a 2016 Honda Odyssey with 91,000 miles.

My car technician found that my car has leaking problems, and is burning engine oil for a long time which means the engine oil leaking from the engine that might cause fire or damage engine and cause serious engine failure and this is a serious safety concern. I heard this is a common problem for Honda cars. Please advise to recall the vehicles with this problem. Thank you very much.

This is a problem with the car’s variable cylinder management. It causes the spark plug to degrade, the engine cylinders fill with oil and damages the piston rings. This has happened to me on my 2016 Honda Odyssey which has less then 50,000 miles. When the engine cylinders misfire while driving, it causes sudden loss of power and an inability to drive. The repairs are very costly. There was a class action lawsuit aimed at this very problem in the 2008-2013 Honda Odyssey - Honda settled the lawsuit March of 2014. Honda extended the warranty and would fix the issue on the existing 2008-2013 Honda Odysseys. Honda has not fixed the problem and they continue to sell vehicles with this known issue and not disclosing it to their customers. It remains a safety issue while driving.

The exact issue was reported for 2011-13 Honda OdesseY Models, All TRIMS and HONDA was issued a extended warranty for those vehicles and Honda is denying the same warranty extension for 2016 Honda Odessey models. The details are published in Service Bulletin 13-081 , which says

On December 7, 2022, while driving my family of six, my 2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L with 83,000 miles triggered a flashing check engine light and lost most acceleration while on a busy highway. I was able to limp the vehicle to a repair shop who identified that the van appeared to be burning oil. Oil was changed in its entirety and was advised to check oil frequently. On February 5, 2023, again while driving my family on a major highway, the flashing check engine light was triggered along with the antilock braking system, lane departure warning and front collision warning, along with a display message of front ‘FCW system failed’. HELLO: I HAVE A 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY I AM TRADING IN TODAY. A FEW WEEKS AGO I WAS IN DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AND MOVING THE VAN. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND IT RACED TO 4500 RPM. I PLACED IT IN PARK, IT RACED TO 5500 RPM AND WAS NOT STOPPING. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THEN RESTARTED AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. MY DAUGHTER WENT TO FILL UP THE GASOLINE IN VAN, IT WAS ALL LEAKED OUT. SHE CALLED PLANO FIRE DEPARTMENT, HE PUT ABSORBANT ON THE GROUND AND TURN THE CAR ON, SHE CAME HOME WITH LITTLE OR NO GAS IN TANK.I CALLED NEXT DAY TO HONDA DEALER AND WAITING FOR THEIR RESPONSE,WAITING FOR THEIR CALL.

VEHICLE WAS TIMELY SERVICED /REPAIRED BY FIESTA HONDA 6 TIMES IN LESS THAN 1.7 YEARS. REGISTERED A CASE WITH AMERICAN HONDA TO OFFER COMPLETE REPAIR, EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND OUT OF THE POCKET EXPENSES. AMERICAN HONDA AND FIESTA HONDA REFUSED TO TAKE CARE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND OUT OF THE POCKET EXPENSES AND THEY HAVE COVERED UP THE CASE AND THEIR MISTAKES, THROUGH JUST BLAME GAME. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT WHERE IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V417000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL LETTER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,700. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

HI, I BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE TWO DEFECTS FOR ODYSSEY 2016 1. LOW GAS WARNING INDICATOR IS TOO HARD TO GET NOTICED 2. NO AUDIBLE NOISE WHEN RUNNING LOW ON GAS. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS THAT IF RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON THE ROAD. SUDDENLY LOSE OF POWER IS VERY DANGEROUS, VERY EASY TO GET THE CAR CRASH ON THE ROAD. AND IT HAPPENED TO ME TODAY. THANKS GOD, IT HAPPENED WHEN I'M ON A LOCAL ROAD NOT THE FREE WAY. BUT I HOPE IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN TO ALL OTHER ODYSSEY OWNER IN THE FUTURE. THAT'S THE REASON I FILED THIS CASE.
