2023 HONDA HR-V Steering Problems

While driving, the vehicle experienced a serious steering malfunction. The right front wheel does not respond properly to steering input, while the left wheel responds normally, resulting in uneven steering and loss of directional control. The issue occurred without warning and created an immediate safety risk, especially during turns and lane changes. The vehicle became difficult to control and unsafe to operate. The problem has occurred more than once and is not consistent with normal wear and tear for a vehicle of this age and mileage. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and recommended replacement of the complete steering rack, including inner tie rods, boots, and clamps. Sticky steering wheel movement on high speeds and slight turns on road. When the steering wheel is resting in center. And time comes to turn it slightly. The steering wheel feels very resistive. Once overcome the resistance, the steering wheel is soft to turn again. This made my car go out of lane once and once corrected made it over correct. Dangerous situation.

The steering rack and pinion need to be replaced. It was inspected by a Honda dealership that confirmed this system failed and it is deemed unsafe to drive. The dealership is holding the car and said it cannot be released back to me without signing a release that the car is unsafe to drive. There were no warning lights. The steering wheel progressively began to stick more when I drove, especially at high speeds on the highway. I had to manually turn the wheel back and struggled to hold it in place when driving straight. This started around early- mid May. Car was brought to the dealer on 6/15 and has been held there since then.

There are issues with the steering. While driving on highways the steering becomes a little sticky and jerks the vehicle. This also happens on city streets just not as bad.

So my 2023 Honda HR-V is experiencing jerky steering. Today, it jerked so hard as I was turning a curve & it almost ran me into a concrete wall.

I purchased the Honda HRV Sport in February 2023. Have accumulated only 4,000 miles since mostly on city streets. whenever I drive my HRV over 5 miles at 45 or 35 miles per hour, the steering wheel intermittently wants to turn right or left and requires more force to counteract than the lane keeping assist. I thought it was the lane keep assist function that was malfunctioning without giving a warning and turned it of. That did not fix the problem. It continues to occur intermittently. The dealer was not able to duplicate.

The steering wheel keeps clicking, feels stiff, and hard to move while driving. I felt unsafe driving my vehicle so I took it to the dealership and they said my steering gear box was the problem. The dealership said there weren't any recalls for the steering gear box and that there was 6 other 2023 honda hrv with the same problem. They said they could order a part for $3000 but because the part is on back order they don't know when my car will be fixed. No warning lights came on.

Car was bought in November/December 2022. Honda was experiencing supply chain issues so had to wait to get a new 2023 model. Around November 2023, the rear windshield glass exploted and shuttered. At first I was told by Honda that they have never heard of that issue; but when I told them that I went to Google and the same situation is happening all over USA, then they said, yes, we know about the problem on this model. They fixed at no cost to me and they provided a rental car as well. The car feels like the lane assist is on when its not. When you try to steer it jerks instead of smoothly turning especially on the highway when steering to the left. I feel it’s getting worse.

While driving the steering wheel is sticking. When you correct it it almost makes the car swerve. 8k miles on this vehicles and many of same complaints.

This vehicle was purchased new, (03/03/2023). At 5,460 miles (10/23/2023) returned to the dealership with steering complaint. Steering is sticky and seems to lock up at highway speeds. In order to turn the steering wheel when this happens you must apply additional pressure left or right to move the steering wheel pasted this condition which could cause an oversteer situation at higher speeds. Dealership test drove vehicle and was unable to duplicate condition. Vehicle now has 8,973 miles and condition is still present!! There are no warning lamps or messages to indicate referenced problem. Vehicle is available for any inspection to verify .

While driving on the highway, the steering becomes sticky (even with the lane assist off). The steering does not turn back and forth smoothly. It will get stuck in a position, and then release. This has made it nearly impossible to maintain a straight drive path without constantly readjusting the steering wheel. The car shows no maintenance or warning indicators. I feel this is a risk for me and my passengers as well as other drivers. Additionally, this is not a random occurrence; it happens every time I drive the vehicle.

The steering wheel will automatically jerk to the left and right while driving, particularly in cold weather. I had at first thought this was the lane assist, however I turned it off and the it was still happening.While driving on the highway it’s as if the steering wheel is making small motions left and right on its own as I am trying to keep a straight path on the road. It has not put me at any direct safety risks but it is definitely a nuisance and makes the driving experience very annoying. I have not yet taken it to a dealership to be duplicated or inspected, however I have read that there have been multiple reports made to NHTSA about this same issue. We bought this 2023 HR-V on December 31, 2023 and it currently has 14,343 on the odometer. About 5,000 miles ago (roughly) we started noticing that the steering feels "sticky" even with the lane assist feature disabled. It is especially noticeable around corners, but it happens at slower speeds as well as faster speeds. It doesn't prevent us from turning the steering wheel and keeping the car centered in the lane, but it does take more effort than normal.

Steering wheel binds or sticks. Problem occurs whether rolling or at a stop. Can hear audible thump when turning wheel while vehicle is stopped. There are no warning lamps or other symptoms indications. Problem causes inadvertent over-correction to the point of lane departure. Happens at all speeds. Problem worsens when vehicle is loaded down. Problem has existed since delivery. Problem has been reproduced by my dealer who has ordered a new steering rack assembly. Part is on back order so whether this will correct the problem is unknown at this time.

I took the vehicle my local Honda dealer in Selma, TX and they were able to replicate the problem. They recommended replacing the EPS gear box (rack and pinion) however the part is on critical backorder with American Honda. No timeframe is currently available on the availability of this part. The vehicle steering is sticking. The power steering rack is sticking when turning the wheel in either direction. Safety is compromised because steering is not easy. The dealer confirmed this problem and recommended replacement of the electric power steering rack after they found the same issue.no warning lamps. The dealer said part is on backorder until April and indicated I should take the car home, which I declined. They provided a loaner car after I insisted the car was unsafe.

We purchased this HR-V last year for my son. He has been driving it back and forth to school at a max of 35mph most of the time. We had to drive to Birmingham and probably the first time actually at speeds of 55mph or more. Sticky Steering. Steering wheel provides resistance when turned and causes sudden jerky changes in direction of travel. Even though direction change is minimal it causes constant steering wheel adjustment. The symptom occurs at all speeds from a slow roll to highway speeds. Vehicle has 10,890 miles on it.

Steering sticks, which has to be overcome causing the steering wheel to jerk resulting in over-correction, especially at highway speeds (with and without LKAS activated). Steering does not feel centered.

When driven especially in cold weather the steering feels like it sticks or jerks when making minimum movements. Which feels like it does not track or have to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction. Happens when driving and standstill. This may be related to the current Honda steering recall.

Steering is very sticky and feels like pressure builds up while driving. Several times I've been in a situation where I have to jerk the steering wheel because it "locks" up and feels like your trying to pull apart magnets. The Honda dealership says they can't duplicate the issue. American Honda is ridiculous and won't help at all. I'm having a lemon law attorney currently review this issue along with other issues I've had with the HRV. This car is a total disappointment and unsafe in so many ways and Honda knows exactly what's going on they just aren't doing anything about it.

I can feel my steering wheel sticking to the left and right. It's not the lane departure assist, it just sticks. I've taken it to my dealership twice and both times they admit they feel it sticking but says they don't have an answer. Looking this up, it sounds like there are several other HR-V owners with the same problem. Driving on a highway in a windy city, it takes a lot to control the car but makes it way worse when the steering wheel sticks. I feel like this is a major safety issue and Honda won't do anything about it. This happens all the time, not just once. You can feel it while in park or while driving.

During a short drip in August 2023 was the first time I noticed the steering "freezing" on the highway and jolting when I tried to control it. I had to use considerable force to hold and direct the steering throughout the trip and back. Still, on the trip, it sometimes felt as if the vehicle was floating and the steering had no grip. Steering wheel gets sticky/jerky when going on interstate now. Sometimes I need to over correct for it to unstick, which could be a huge safety risk

Steering has become jerky and sticks in the last two weeks…makes it very hard to drive and feels unsafe. We turned off the lane assist to see if that helped but no different. Diagnostic test was done today but results not yet confirmed. Was told it was “safe@ to drive but power steering warning light came on twice on my 15 minute drive home.

The problem is related to steering. Steering wheel sticks at any speed but gets more hazardous as speed increases. Potential for accidental over steering— causing difficulties staying in lane. Accident did not occur, but steering problem could easily cause one.

Power steering pressure seems to build up and stick forcing you to break the steering wheel pressure in short, jerky motions. Lane assist is off. Seems unsafe in wet or icy conditions.

When i am driving my 2023 Honda HRV my steering wheel becomes sticky and jerky. By being sticky i have to jerk the sterring wheel and that makes the vehilce swerve a bit. I have spoke to the delearship and was advised that they have not gotten any recalls for that issue.There was no messages and this started sometime in september of 2023. Highway or city streets the car drifts and the steering sticks when you correct the drift. This is a safety hazard, if it jerks too much when correcting it could drift into the opposite lane causing a crash. I bought my HR-V in March of 2023 and it was fine until my Low Tire Pressure Sensor triggered. We couldn't find an issue with the tires so we recalibrated the sensor and after that the steering started to stick. I brought it to the dealer and they couldn't find any issues at that time. Over the last couple of weeks it's gotten worse, I called my dealer again and they said they've had to replace two steering racks on the HRV due to this problem. I turned off the lane departure feature to see if that helped but the problem persists.

I bought my HR-V in June of 2022 and it was fine until December 2022 (about 1800 miles). It was really bad for about 3 months then got a little better. I’ve noticed it getting worse again as winter approaches. I turned off the lane departure feature to see if that helped but the problem persists. The Honda dealer has no idea what is causing the problem.

My steering has become sticky especially during highway driving when trying to stay in my lane. The stickiness makes me have to use extra force which then ends up making a jerky feel and over correcting.
