2024 HONDA CR-V Forward Collision Avoidance Warnings Problems

I was driving my crv and a deer was in the road. I hit the deer going 40mph. It blew out the whole front of my car, my sensors, headlights, both fenders and my hood are dented. No airbags deployed or any sensors alerted me of the object or leaving the roadway. Also when I hit the deer, I lost all steering on that moment. I had to turn off my car and then back on to get my steering to release.

The vehicle is a 2024 Honda CR-V EX-L with approximately 13,000 miles, purchased at Gillman Honda in Houston, TX on May 29, 2024. The issue involves the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) activating without any obstacle present. The first incident occurred in February 2025 at around 11,000 miles while driving on a feeder road at ~25 mph. The vehicle suddenly braked to a complete stop even though the road was clear. There were cars behind me, and although they stopped in time, it created a serious risk of rear-end collision. Had I been traveling at a higher speed and the car braked completely, this could have caused the vehicle to flip or lose control. Driver assist systems disable themselves occasionally and seemingly at random. It seems that something is hyperactive or overly sensitive with the system. I have stopped to clean areas where camera is and it doesn't seem to make a difference or helps for a little while and then happens again. Unable to use cruise control for remainder of trip without calling dealership and them telling me to press and hold something to shut off driver assist in order to use cruise control. Another time my front collision warning flashed and disabled my cruise control while I was going down an interstate highway recently at 75 mph. Luckily no one was close behind me. On [XXX] and [XXX], I was driving in the right lane in a construction zone on [XXX] in Detroit, MI when my 2024 CR-V slammed on the breaks while flashing the forward collision “break” warning on my dash. There were no cars at least 500 yards in front of me and, luckily, no one behind me. This happened by itself and no cruise control was engaged at the time. I have had this car since October 2023 and this is the first time this has happened. This was a sunny morning with temps in the low 30s. No rain and no snow. I have yet to be able to reproduce this issue and it’s unlikely that I could, since this happened under normal driving conditions. I was driving on a country road and shortly following acceleration after a left turn, the cars forward collision warning went off, but in an unusual way. It will generally beep and flash the brake signal a few times if the forward collision warning activates. This time I heard one loud beep, saw a flash of the brake signal, and then the car slammed on the brakes to a complete stop. Luckily, there was no one and no other cars around me as I was on a small road without much traffic. The car is currently at the dealership being evaluated. I have sent a request to the general manager to investigate this situation further than just a basic code run or recreation of the malfunction. I do not feel comfortable driving this car without a clear diagnoses and repair.

On Sunday [XXX] and also other times before this, the vehicle will do a fantom breaking. It will slow down, brake, when no other vehicles are near by. On [XXX], the vehicle braked hard while I was in cruise control and traveling on [XXX] near Baldwin, WI. At this time the adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and brake system warning lights came on. the vehicle was okay to drive the remainder of the way home. I took the vehicle to the Honda dealer on Wednesday February 26th. They reported that they found Code P2583-49 millimeter wave radar fail. They said that they cleared snow debris off front bumper but there was no snow debris on bumper. It was 40 some degrees. 2024 Honda CR-V VIN [XXX] Phantom Braking Car has experienced phantom braking numerous times since March 2024 when new. Initially occurred within one week of driving the new vehicle. Did not report it to dealer at first as we thought it was something that we were doing, or some sensitivity that the car typically exhibited. At random times car decelerates quickly as if pressing on brakes, or losing engine power (fuel supply, ignition, etc.), or downshifting quickly. The Honda dealership replaced the steering gear box as required by the recent recall. After picking up my vehicle, I noticed that the Blindspot alert system was not working. The cross traffic monitor was not working. The side mirror was not beeping nor lighting up. The arrows and beeping did not occur when vehicles were driving behind me while in reverse. It appears that the sensors/radar had been disconnected or disabled although the dash settings show that they are on. After taking the vehicle back, the dealership lied and said that my 2024 Honda CRV EX had never been equipped with those sensors. They were working perfectly fine before I took the vehicle in. The dealership is denying fraudulent activity and jeopardizing the safety equipment of my vehicle and the safety of myself and others. I leased a 2024 CR-V Sport Hybrid in April 2024. And in early October I backed out of a parking spot. When I applied the brakes there was no response and I back into a parked car. No damage was done to it but I had an estimate of $2000.00 to mine since it was on the hatch back door. I didn't report it because I thought it was my fault. But on Friday Nov. 29, 2024 as I was parallel parking I reversed into the spot and straighten out my vehicle. I put it into gear and started moving forward about six feet slowly. When I went to apply the brakes nothing happened again and I hit my wife’s car in front of me. The CR-V Owners Club has reported a similar incident.

When driving along using the cruise control, the vehicle will suddenly act as it is avoiding a collision. The collision warning will show on the dashboard and the car will suddenly slow down to a stop or near stop until I disengage the cruise control and hit the gas pedal. This has happened multiple times while I was driving along a paved road with no other cars or obstacles visible ahead of me. Fortunately, so far, no vehicle was following me at close range but my car stopping in the middle of the road without warning could easily cause a rear end collision or other severe accident.

Warning lights (LKAS, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure Assist and Break System) suddenly went on as I was backing out of the driveway. No obstruction found on the vehicle upon checking. CR-V was with 2328 miles on it. Informed the dealer of the issue and got it serviced immediately. I was informed that the multipurpose camera needs replacement. Service Manager from the Honda dealer said that the vehicle is still drivable even with warning lights on and that the camera is on back order but the ETA is unknown.

When snow gets on the front Honda logo all safety functions shut down and a screen comes on and says “clean area showing) so I pulled over on the next off ramp and clean the snow and mush off the emblem and with in the next 10mi it comes back on.. this happened to me 4x coming from Fort Wayne Indiana to Noblesville Indiana. Went to the Honda forum and it a common problem. It wasn’t that bad out to be doing this.. No Cruise control No lane departure No auto braking No safety features at all until you clean the front logo

2024 CRV showing errors concerning brake assist and lane departure. 1647 miles. I had a 2023 Sport Touring CRV. Same messages appeared. At 10,300 miles, when being serviced at the dealership for an oil change, tire rotation, and two service bulletins, I was informed of an “embedded” code saying the main camera needed replacing. Looking online, Honda has an issue. This seems to be happening frequently.
