Defect: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2007, 2009-2017 CBR600RR, 2008-2017, 2021 CBR1000RR, and 2010, 2012-2013 VFR1200 motorcycles. The fuel pump impellers may have been improperly molded, which can cause them to deform and result in fuel pump failure.

Consequence: Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump module as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 3, 2025. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's numbers for this recall are KR2, KR3, KR4 and KR5....

Recall 09V174000 — ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:HOSES/LINES/PIPING/FITTINGS

| 12,894 vehicles affected

Defect: HONDA IS RECALLING 12,894 MY 2008 CBR1000RR MOTORCYCLES. A COOLANT HOSE CLAMP LOCATED ON THE WATER PUMP COVER MAY BREAK DUE TO FATIGUE CAUSED BY VIBRATION GENERATED AT CONTINUOUS HIGH ENGINE SPEEDS.

Consequence: IF THE CLAMP BREAKS, HOT COOLANT CAN SPRAY ONTO THE RIDERS LEFT LOWER LEG CAUSING SCALDING TO THE RIDER.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NEW COOLANT HOSE CLAMP FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE JUNE 6, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 866-784-1870.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda CBR 1000RR. The contact stated that while riding at 35 MPH, the motorcycle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the motorcycle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The motorcycle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel pump. The motorcycle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V864000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); the VIN was included, but the motorcycle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to a Honda dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.

MOST OTHER OWNERS KNOW THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH FAULTY PISTON RINGS AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. THIS PROBLEM ONLY RESULTS IN UNNECESSARY WEAR AND TEAR ON OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS, HIGHER COST OF OWNERSHIP AND MUCH HIGHER EMISSIONS. HONDA, PLEASE FIX YOUR BIKE!!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOTORCYCLE HAD BEEN BURNING OIL TOO QUICKLY EVER SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED A YEAR AGO. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE MOTORCYCLE WAS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
