All Parking Brake Complaints
COULDN'T GET CAR INSPECTED BECAUSE OF A WORN OUT EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT WE NEVER USE. *JB
THE PARKING BRAKE ON OUR 2002 YUKON DOES NOT HOLD ONCE THE REAR BRAKES HAVE WARMED UP. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ALLOWED TO SIT FOR A FEW HOURS AND THE BRAKES COOL, THE PARKING BRAKE HOLDS. SINCE NEW, THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL HAS GONE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS NORMAL. I'VE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST WHEN I TOOK IT FOR STATE INSPECTION, AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS A MINOR ADJUSTMENT PROBLEM AND IT HAD BEEN FIXED. SINCE THE CAR WAS COLD WHEN I PICKED IT UP, THE PARKING BRAKE DID WORK FINE. I DIDN'T REALIZE UNTIL LAST SUMMER THAT THE PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T HOLD ONCE THE ROTOR ASSEMBLY IS WARMED UP. CLEARLY, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF PARKED ON A STEEP INCLINE. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY BECAUSE THEY SAY THE...
THE WEAR INDICATOR ON MY RIGHT REAR BRAKE WAS SIGNALING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD COMPLETELY WORN ON ONE SIDE AND THE SHOES HAD TO BE REPLACED; IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE ROTOR WHICH ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE ATTACHMENT OF THE SHOES (THE OPPOSITE OF HOW IT IS ATTACHED ON THE OTHER SIDE). *NM
(1) VEHICLE FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION (2) EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NON-OPERABLE (3) ROTORS AND BRAKE SHOES REPLACED AT REPAIR SHOP
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GARAGE FOR A ROUTINE INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INOPERATIVE. WHEN DEPRESSING THE PARKING BRAKE IT FAILED TO HOLD THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKED ON AN INCLINE. DRIVER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
